Guardian: Trump tariffs prompt slump in shipments to US ports

Donald Trump’s increasingly erratic trade war has triggered a slump in shipments to the US’s most important ports, amid the growing risk of a recession in the world’s largest economy.

In the latest sign of the US president’s tariff policies rattling the economy, figures show the number of vessels scheduled to arrive at the Port of Los Angeles next week is down by almost a third on the same period a year earlier.

Analysts said the latest shipping figures, which are updated on a daily basis, indicated the fallout was escalating.

Highlighting that it typically takes between 20 and 40 days for a sea container to travel from China to the US, Sløk said there would be a knock-on impact on demand for US trucking from the middle of next month, which could lead to empty shelves and layoffs in the distribution and retail industries.

This could lead to a recession by the summer, he added.

Thank the narcissist in the White House! Does he care? No!

Moneywise: ‘We want them back desperately’: US border communities losing millions in sales tax revenue as Canadian shoppers avoid US travel due to Trump’s tariffs and ’51st state’ rhetoric

Cars traveling across the border into the U.S. are down significantly in 2025, and counties like Erie and Niagara are paying the price through a drop in sales tax revenue.

In February and March of 2025, 35,619 fewer cars crossed the Peace Bridge that connects Canada to Buffalo, NY, compared to the number of cars that crossed the bridge during the same months in 2024. During the same period, 29,537 fewer cars crossed the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls.\

Thanks to President Trump’s ongoing trade war with Canada, Canadians seem to have significantly reduced their interest in traveling to the U.S. and the financial ramifications are hard to ignore.

But it’s not just the backlash to Trump’s antics that’s had a negative effect on Canadian tourism in the U.S. In recent months, several foreigners — including a Canadian woman — have been detained while attempting to enter the United States.

Dump Trump and resume treating visitors respectfully. It really is that simple!

Talking Points Memo: Trump Has Ordered Safeguards Stripped From Procurement As Pentagon Prepares To Spend $1 Trillion

To summarize, the new executive orders purport not merely to change or improve regulations, but to simply eliminate most of the existing procurement rules developed through years of oversight processes and outside scrutiny. They effectively undo procurement safeguards put in place after tremendous waste was exposed during the Cold War. In their place, the executive orders would elevate certain procedures that allow the government to spend unlimited sums without competition — the so-called “other transactions” process that need not be competed and that circumvents safeguards put in place to protect tax dollars. The Executive Orders say there should be a “first preference” for other transactions processes, which is like having a “first preference” for bringing a pistol with no safety to compete in a boxing match.

It’s all about lining their own pockets. They’ll get a pardon [they hope!] at the end of King Donald’s term and all will be well.

Mirror: Karoline Leavitt [Bimbo #1] called out for propaganda stunt that would make ‘Kim Jong Un blush’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt [Bimbo #1] was called out on social media for a video that showed mugshots of undocumented alients accused of committing crimes like rape and murder lining the White House.

The youngest press secretary was joined by ‘border czar’ Tom Homan at a press conference early Monday morning, where they talked about the “100 days of promises made and promises kept” by U.S. President Donald Trump in the first 100 days of his presidency, largely focusing on the deportation of undocumented migrants.

My question is how many of these people were actually tried and convicted in a court of law? That’s key point that Bimbo #1 and her crowd of gagglers tend to overlook.

CBS Minnesota: The fight over giving undocumented Minnesotans health insurance

This is the first year Minnesota is providing undocumented workers with the state health insurance known as MinnesotaCare.

Republicans at the State Capitol say they want to end the program, in large part because of the cost to taxpayers.

But Democrats — as well as hospitals, doctors and nurses — are lobbying to keep the benefit.

They argue undocumented residents pay $222 million in taxes each year, and having the undocumented insured means hospitals and doctors get reimbursed. It also means less undocumented residents will have to postpone medical care until it’s an emergency.

My bet: It’s only a matter of time until ICE breaks in & uses the enrollment and claims records to round them up & detain them in Louisiana or Texas.

CNBC: Man accused of stealing from Homeland Sec. Noem [Bimbo #2] hit with federal charges in three robberies

  • A man accused of stealing the purse of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem at a restaurant while she was under Secret Service protection was charged by federal prosecutors with that and two other alleged bag thefts in Washington, D.C., a court filing shows.
  • Mario Bustamente Leiva, is charged with robbery, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with the three alleged thefts between April 12 and 20.
  • “Following each robbery, Bustamente Leiva made fraudulent purchases using the credit cards obtained from the victim of each robbery,” a U.S. Secret Service agent wrote in the complaint against the Chilean national in U.S. District Court in D.C.

[Mario] Bustamente Leiva, a 49-year-old who prosecutors say is in the country illegally, was arrested Saturday in a D.C. motel.

They finally caught a real alien criminal! Wow! I’m impressed! But it was the Secret Service who nabbed him, not the thugs at ICE.

essanews: Tariffs threaten Walmart, Target shelves and US economy stability

Tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on China might lead to empty shelves at Walmart and Target stores, along with rising prices. Experts forecast shortages and layoffs in the transportation and retail sectors, creating a shock for the American economy. “The clock is absolutely ticking.”

Narcissistic wannabe dictators like King Donald think only of themselves. We little people don’t matter.

Latin Times: Active Duty Military Found Alongside Tren de Aragua Members at DEA Raid of ‘Underground Illegal Nightclub’ in Colorado

The Department and Justice (DOJ), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Colorado’s Rocky Mountain DEA teamed up to raid a Colorado Springs nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to the DEA, club patrons included Tren de Aragua gang members and active duty military personnel.

So where was Pete Hegseth (our O-3 washout turned Secretary of Defense) when all this was going down? Pete was (pick all that apply):

  1. Asleep at home
  2. Asleep at the office
  3. Hard at work de-woking whatever
  4. Drinking at home
  5. Drinking with the boys in Colorado

Men’s Journal: Travelers Get Good News From Major Airlines

Travelers are getting some good news from major airlines.

According to an April 26, 2025, article by CNBC, the prices of airline tickets are dropping because of sluggish sales.

Airfares dropped 5.3% in March 2025, and 4% in February, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Among the airlines expressing concerns about weak travel sales were American, Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines, according to CNBC.

Because …

The airlines’ executives cited a range of issues in depressing sales for domestic travel, from the tariff wars to “economic uncertainty,” CNBC reported.

Thank you, King Donald, for trashing our economy and scaring everyone away.

Daily Beast: Marco Rubio Contradicts Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi [Bimbo #3] on Due Process

Secretary of State Marco Rubio forgot the Gospel According to Donald Trump on Sunday by admitting that anyone on U.S. soil is entitled to a fair hearing before being removed from the country.

“Yes, of course,” Rudio said in response to the host’s question of whether the Fifth Amendment still applies under Trump during his morning interview with MSNBC. “That’s what the law says!”

Yup! Got that right!

Perhaps conscious of having contradicted the latest White House statements and directives on the matter, he then scrambled to tell the network that “if you’re in this country illegally, you have no right to be here and you must be removed.”

Oops! It must be painful to have spoken the truth for a change. Suck it up, Bubba!
