CNBC: Trump administration ‘looking at’ suspending habeas corpus for migrants, Stephen [“Goebbels”] Miller says

  • Senior White House advisor Stephen [“Goebbels”] Miller said that the Trump administration is “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, the right to challenge a person’s detention by the government, for migrants.
  • [“Goebbels”] Miller was answering a reporter who asked about President Donald Trump entertaining the idea of suspending the writ to deal with illegal immigration into the United States.
  • The writ has only been suspended four times since the U.S. Constitution was adopted, and in all but one case, Congress first authorized that action.
  • [“Goebbels”] Miller spoke hours after a federal judge in Vermont ordered the release of Tufts University student Rumeysa Öztürk from the custody of U.S. immigration authorities. She had challenged her detention with a habeas writ.

White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen [“Goebbels”] Miller said Friday that the Trump administration is “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus — the constitutional right to challenge in court the legality of a person’s detention by the government — for migrants.

[“Goebbels”] Miller’s comment came in response to a White House reporter who asked about President Donald Trump entertaining the idea of suspending the writ to deal with the problem of illegal immigration into the United States.

Asked when that might happen, [“Goebbels”] Miller responded: “The Constitution is clear, and that, of course, is the supreme law of the land, that the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus can be suspended in time of invasion.”

“So, I would say that’s an option we’re actively looking at,” he said.

This comes a day or two after the release of Rumeysa Öztürk, who was detained for 45 days by ICE for writing an op-ed column in a newspaper, never charged with nor convicted of any crime:

[“Goebbels”] Miller spoke hours after a federal judge in Vermont ordered the release of Tufts University student Rumeysa Öztürk from the custody of U.S. immigration authorities.

Öztürk, who had been imprisoned for 45 days after the Trump administration revoked the Turkish citizen’s student visa based on an assessment that she “may undermine U.S. foreign policy by crearting a hostile environment for Jewish students and indicating support for a designated terrorist organization.”

Öztürk challenged her detention with a petition for writ of habeas corpus, which noted that she “has not been charged with any crime,” and which argued that her “arrest and detention are designed to punish her speech and chill the speech of others.”

AOL: White House: ‘Ridiculous’ to think Trump doing anything for his own personal wealth

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt [Bimbo #1] said Friday it would be “ridiculous” to think President Trump is personally benefiting from his time at the White House, calling out reporters for questions about his family’s business ventures while in office.

Ahead of Trump’s trip to the Middle East next week, Leavitt [Bimbo #1] pushed back on questioning over whether any family members are joining him and if the president has any plans to meet with people involved with the family businesses while in the region.

“Not to my knowledge, and let me just get to the premise of your question that both of you have raised. I think it’s frankly ridiculous that anyone in this room would even suggest that President Trump is doing anything for his own benefit. He left a life of luxury and a life of running a very successful real estate empire for public service, not just once, but twice,” [Bimbo #1] said.

“A life of running a very successful real estate empire”: Does that include the loser’s SIX bankruptcies?

And his THIRTY FOUR convictions on felony counts of falsified business records?

Dumb doesn’t come much dumber than Bimbo #1 Karoline Leavitt!

Newsweek: Pentagon Issues New Sweeping Order Amid Trump Admin Crackdown on DEI

The Pentagon has issued its most sweeping directive yet in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth‘s ongoing campaign to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content from the U.S. military.

In a memo distributed Friday, military leaders and commands were ordered to review and pull all library books related to diversity, anti-racism, and gender issues by May 21. The directive characterizes such materials as “promoting divisive concepts and gender ideology,” which it says are incompatible with the Department of Defense’s core mission.

So racism and gender discrimination must be part of “the Department of Defense’s core mission”?

Independent: ‘Fed up’ crowd in Massachusetts swarms ICE agents attempting to arrest mother

Worcester locals formed a ‘human ring’ around the mother and her two children before cops ‘slammed’ her teen daughter’s face into the ground

Despicable ICE pigs!

Harrowing new video footage reveals the moment a mob of angry Massachusetts residents descended on federal immigration agents and attempted to thwart their operation to detain a woman with her family.

Neighbors spotted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials intercepting a mother who was with her teen daughter and her newborn baby at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday on Eureka Street in Worcester. The father was detained by ICE on Wednesday, according to the local immigration justice network LUCE.

The arrests come just weeks after ICE’s acting Director Todd Lyons announced the agency had been preparing for a second “surge” in arrests in the Greater Boston area, amid President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

The dramatic video footage, which has since gone viral online, was captured by a witness at the scene and shows the woman clinging to her infant child as ICE agents attempt to arrest her.

A swarm of 25 locals gathered, with one heard demanding to see identification and a warrant and calling to stop the chaos. “We don’t have to show you anything,” an ICE agent reportedly told the crowd.

Arrogant asshole PIG! No warrant, no arrest!

Immigration officials called upon officers from the Worcester police for backup, with the department describing in a statement how the “unruly” crowd “put their hands on federal agents and Worcester officers.”

Local police should quit providing backup to ICE’s thugs.

National Review: Trump Administration Opens Investigation Into University after National Review Reporting

The Trump administration launched a civil rights investigation into Western Carolina University for alleged non-compliance with the federal government’s Title IX policy after National Review reported on internal emails that appeared to show defiance of the president’s executive action.

The Department of Education announced the investigation Thursday and cited emails first reported by National Review indicating Western Carolina would not change its Title IX policy to comply with President Trump’s executive order recognizing only two biological sexes and updating federal policy accordingly.

“WCU’s reported contempt for federal antidiscrimination laws and indifference to, and retaliation against, girls who have spoken up about males invading their intimate spaces is simply unacceptable,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor.

What they’re not in compliance with are not laws but executive orders — fiats — by King Donald that are in contradiction with established case law:

The school’s chief compliance officer said in January that “we are not making changes based on this EO,” the emails showed. In February, the administrator said “we will continue to analyze allegations of sex discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” a flagrant violation of Trump’s order. The compliance officer cited the Supreme Court’s Bostock decision barring employment discrimination based on gender identity and a lower court ruling prohibiting discrimination against transgender-identifying students.

Raw Story: ‘Incompetent dunce’: MTG roasted after bailing on Senate race

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) finally settled weeks of speculation by taking her name out of consideration for Senate, in a lengthy post that railed against Republican lawmakers and insisted she could win the race but wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything because her GOP colleagues would just roll over for Democrats anyway.

“Incompetent dunce @mtgreenee claims that she’d definitely win the #GASen primary & general if she ran, but doesn’t want to run because the Senate is stupid,” wrote former Massachusetts state representative candidate Mathew Helman. “I’m not even exaggerating or oversimplifying. She knows she’d lose to Jon @ossoff. Otherwise, she’d run.”

Independent: More than half of Americans tell Trump to stay away from colleges and disapprove of his higher education attacks

A new AP-NORC poll finds that the majority of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s stance on colleges and universities as he intensifies threats to cut federal funding unless schools comply with his political agenda.

More than half of Americans, 56 percent, disapprove of the Trump administration’s approach to higher education, while about four in 10 approve, reflecting his overall job approval ratings.

This targeting of universities appears out of step with the wider American public, which sees such institutions as key to scientific research, new ideas, and innovation.

Fox News: Pete Hegseth says West Point professor who resigned over Trump admin education overhaul ‘will not be missed’

A West Point professor’s resignation over education shifts brought, in part, by the Trump administration, drew a scathing comment from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth

West Point philosophy professor Graham Parsons announced his resignation Thursday, following a 13-year tenure with the academy. Hegseth quickly took to social media, voicing his opinion after the departure.

“You will not be missed Professor Parsons,” Hegseth wrote in response to Parsons’ resignation.

This is quintessential Hegseth — no class, no tact, no sense of decency. Four more years of Hegseth will leave our military in shambles.

2paragraphs: U.S. Senator Slams Kristi Noem [Bimbo #2]: “You Act As If Your Disagreement With The Law Gives You The Ability To Create Your Own Law”

Continuing to position himself as a major voice of congressional opposition to what he characterizes as the illegal overreach of the executive branch in the second Donald Trump administration, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) castigated Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, saying she had repeatedly broken the oath she swore when she agreed to serve a nation governed by the Constitution.

Murphy’s criticism was so stark that he prefaced it by asserting “I say this with seriousness and respect” — lest anyone think the Senator’s laundry list of accusations against Noem was mere political rhetoric rather than a for-the-record accounting.

“Your department is out of control,” Murphy said. “You are spending like you don’t have a budget…you are ignoring the immigration laws of this nation and implementing a brand new immigration system that you have invented, that has little relation to the statutes that you are required — that you are commanded — to follow, as spelled out in your oath of office.”

Accusing Noem of violating the rights of immigrants who reside in the U.S., Murphy said “your agency acts as if laws don’t matter, as if the election gave you some mandate to violate the constitution and the laws passed by this congress. It did not give you that mandate.”

Pitting the rule of law against the whims of fiat, Murphy said to Noem: “You act as if your disagreement with the law — or even the public’s disagreement with the law — is relevant and gives you the ability to create your own law. It does not give you that ability.”
