Sacramento Bee: Trump’s Tariff Proposal Suffers Blow from Congress

President Donald Trump has proposed using tariff revenue to fund military pay, provide aid to farmers, and support food assistance programs. Democrats have warned the approach may exceed his constitutional spending powers, raising legal concerns. Despite the pushback, the administration has continued exploring options for implementing the plan.

Trump said, “We’re going to take some of that tariff money that we made, we’re going to give it to our farmers, who are, for a little while, going to be hurt until the tariffs kick in to their benefit.” He added, “So we’re going to make sure that our farmers are in great shape, because we’re taking in a lot of money.”

Bipartisan lawmakers have noted that tariff revenue must go to the Treasury and can only be spent with Congress’s approval. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer noted the executive branch cannot directly allocate these funds.

ZNetwork: Pentagon Creates New Legion of PR Toadies

However, the Pentagon is touting the success of its draconian order. “Today, the Department of War is announcing the next generation of the Pentagon press corps,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced on X (10/22/25):

Over 60 journalists, representing a broad spectrum of new media outlets and independent journalists, have signed the Pentagon’s media access policy and will be joining the new Pentagon press corps….

New media outlets and independent journalists have created the formula to circumvent the lies of the mainstream media and get real news directly to the American people. Their reach and impact collectively are far more effective and balanced than the self-righteous media who chose to self-deport from the Pentagon. Americans have largely abandoned digesting their news through the lens of activists who masquerade as journalists in the mainstream media. We look forward to beginning a fresh relationship with members of the new Pentagon press corps.

In fact, this “broad spectrum” of outlets represents the fringes of the right, including One America NetworkEpoch TimesGateway PunditHuman EventsLindellTVFrontlines and the National Pulse (New York Times10/22/25).

Mediaite: Trump Fan Gutted By Tariffs Says He Sees Bankruptcies and Suicides If Trade War Continues

Farmer Caleb Ragland is a supporter of President Donald Trump, but he warned on NewsNation on Friday that thousands of farms will go under if the president’s trade war continues.

Ragland is a soybean farmer in Kentucky and he has been hit hard financially this year, mainly due to China being the biggest buyer of soybeans. Tariffs have halted the market.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Democrats Accuse Trump of Targeting Blue States

President Donald Trump has expanded federal authority to target Democratic-led states during an ongoing government shutdown, prompting Democratic backlash for reallocating funds. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under Trump has closed five regional offices in Democratic states while keeping four open in Republican states. Critics argued the measures are a result of partisan favoritism and raised concerns over a lack of equitable access to federal services.

Trump said, “We’ll be cutting some very popular Democrat programs that aren’t popular with Republicans, frankly, because that’s the way it works. They wanted to do this, so we’re going to give them a little taste of their own medicine.”

The administration has blocked energy projects in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts while allowing projects in Republican-led Virginia. Funding cuts also include $18 billion for New York infrastructure and $7.6 billion in clean energy grants for states who backed former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said, “This has been true of Donald Trump’s whole approach to politics — he doesn’t want to unify America. He governs by division, he stokes anger, and obviously in a perverse way that has worked for him in the past. But I think it is one thing to do that in a campaign, and another to govern through division.”

Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) said, “It quacks like a duck and it walks like a duck — and it sure looks like he’s targeting blue states. I’m not sure what they are after, other than he is a retaliatory, vindictive kind of guy. I do think there may be an effort to shift the focus from health care costs that Democrats have linked to the government shutdown.”

Several Democratic states have sued the federal government, alleging that funding cuts violate equitable grant practices. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said, “He is targeting Democratic cities, blue cities — and especially blue cities in blue states. There are blue cities in red states, but he’s targeting blue cities in blue states — and particularly blue governors, Democratic governors.”

Columbus Ledger-Enquirer: Trump Sparks Backlash with False Jan. 6 Claim

President Donald Trump has come under scrutiny for claiming that former President Joe Biden had FBI agents present during the January 6, 2021, insurrection, despite the fact that Trump was in office at the time. Critics have argued the claim wrongly shifts responsibility for the U.S. Capitol attack from Trump’s administration. Analysts warned the misstatement could further legitimize debunked conspiracy theories on the matter. Numerous outlets have fact-checked Trump’s false claim.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Trump Escalates Feud With Illinois Over Immigration

President Donald Trump has demanded the imprisonment of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, accusing them of neglecting to safeguard U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers amid escalating protests over intensified immigration enforcement. A federal appeals court upheld a lower court’s injunction blocking the full deployment of National Guard troops in Illinois, while Operation Midway Blitz has resulted in over 1,000 arrests of undocumented migrants in the Chicago area, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The administration has federalized 300 Illinois and 400 Texas National Guard troops to secure federal sites in Chicago and beyond, a step decried by state and city leaders as an unconstitutional intrusion and discriminatory tactic, prompting lawsuits from Illinois and Chicago to halt the operations.

Trump said, “Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Officers!” He added, “Governor Pritzker also!”

Bovino said, “I doubt the governor could fill custard in a pie factory if it came down to it, but what he is adept at is placing his citizens, his law enforcement officers, and his state in jeopardy at the hands of criminals.” Bovino added, “It’s plain and simple: he doesn’t care.”

Charlotte Observer: ‘No Rebellion’: Judges Rebuke Trump’s Crackdown Claims

President Donald Trump has asserted the U.S. is facing a crisis, advocating for expanded powers and National Guard deployments, particularly in Democrat-led states. Federal courts in Illinois and Oregon have pushed back Trump’s claims, rejecting assertions of widespread unrest. In Illinois, Trump called Chicago a “warzone” to justify federal intervention, but Judge April Perry ruled protests were small and managed.

Perry stated, “There was no such rebellion or danger of one.” She added that the administration’s claims of unrest were “simply unreliable” and showed a “lack of credibility.”

In Portland, Judge Karin Immergut dismissed claims of domestic terrorism, noting protests were mostly contained and had declined by the time of Trump’s intervention order. Trump stated, “Portland is almost an insurrection.”

Immergut said, “The protests have been such a minor issue, that the normal nightlife in downtown Portland has required more police resources than the ICE facility.”

Charlotte Observer: Treasury Investigates Antifa Funding in New Crackdown

The Trump Administration is ramping up investigations into the funding and organization of groups like Antifa, labeled as domestic extremists. President Donald Trump held a roundtable with cabinet members and experts to discuss strategies for addressing such organizations. White House officials have hinted at new measures aimed at identifying their networks and financial backers.

Without providing evidence, Seamus Bruner of the Government Accountability Institute alleged that left-wing groups have funded violent protests.

Bruner said, “It’s not just Antifa, but there is a whole ecosystem of radical, professional protesting organizations.” He added, “Such organizations also provide left-wing extremists with PR services, marketing, and in some cases additional boots on the ground.”

Bruner proposed using RICO statutes and reviewing tax-exempt statuses to target organizations suspected of funding criminal protest activities, urging federal authorities to act swiftly for accountability.

Bruner stated, “They can absolutely cancel any future grants if they deem that the charitable purposes are less than charitable.” Bruner added, “We found a network of NGOs … And, it’s also big left-wing funders — some of them are not citizens of this country.”

News Nation: Feds use tear gas in Chicago neighborhood during fracas

At least three people were taken into custody after a confrontation between residents and federal agents on Chicago’s Northwest Side Saturday morning.

Witnesses told WGN-TV they were shaken by what happened and are seeking answers about why federal agents approached a landscaper working in the neighborhood.

Brian Kolp, who lives nearby, said he was sitting on his couch with a cup of coffee when he heard loud noises outside. When he looked out the window, he saw agents arresting someone on his front lawn.‘Angels’ step in after federal agents use tear gas near Chicago school

“I think I heard one of the whistles, that’s what caught my attention, and then they tackled him right in my front yard,” Kolp said.

The incident took place in the Old Irving Park neighborhood, near Kildare and Waveland. Video from the scene shows neighbors confronting the agents as tear gas fills the air and several people are pinned to the ground.

“They ended up taking at least two other people into custody, including my 70-year-old-ish neighbor who lives in that house there,” Kolp said. “He was just coming home from a run. They took him to the ground and ended up taking him away.”
