Latin Times: ICE Agents Lose Access to Database Tracking Immigrants’ Wire Transfers: Report
“This data is not and has never been intended to be used for immigration purposes,” said Arizona’s Attorney General
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) division have been cut off from a financial surveillance database long used to track wire transfers between the U.S. and Mexico, according to disclosures reported by The Intercept.
The Transaction Record Analysis Center, or TRAC, was created in 2014 through a settlement with Western Union and holds records of hundreds of millions of transfers. For years, civil liberties advocates have warned that ICE would use TRAC for deportations, despite official claims that it was intended only for money laundering and drug trafficking investigations.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, who oversees TRAC, confirmed to The Intercept that ERO agents had been “de-platformed” since June following concerns over misuse of the data. “This data is not and has never been intended to be used for immigration purposes,” Mayes said in a statement, while maintaining her support for its use in cartel-related cases.
The decision came after The Intercept documented two cases this year in which ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) division used TRAC records to locate immigrants with no criminal history beyond unauthorized presence. One of those cases involved Gregorio Cordova Murrieta, a 48-year-old Mexican citizen living in Hawaiʻi, who was arrested in June after sending money home to family through MoneyGram and Western Union.
Cordova had lived quietly with his fiancée, running a tile business and coaching soccer before an HSI agent reviewed his remittance history and tracked him to his home in ʻAiea. He was charged with illegal reentry, pleaded guilty in August, and now awaits sentencing.
Civil liberties groups argue the Cordova case illustrates how a tool designed to stop money laundering has been repurposed for mass deportation. “We’re talking about a sweeping system going after people really for nothing more than spending their own money,” said Nick Anthony, a policy analyst with the Cato Institute, to Civil Beat back on August 18.
The American Civil Liberties Union praised Mayes for restricting access but called the measures insufficient. “Cutting off ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations agents still leaves access for the thousands of agents in ICE Homeland Security Investigations,” said Nathan Freed Wessler of the ACLU to The Intercept.
Knewz: MAGA fumes as Newsom mocks Trump with Bibles
Gavin Newsom has once again gotten under the skin of conservatives, this time by selling signed copies of Bibles on his merchandise site, Knewz.com can reveal. The California governor’s team has been mimicking Donald Trump for weeks, leaving his supporters raging and failing to see the irony of it all.
This time, Newsom and his handlers took it up a notch by listing Bibles for sale on his website. (The Bibles were marked as sold out.) The site also includes several other items mocking Trump slogans like a “Newsom Was Right About Everything” cap, a “Trump Is Not Hot” tank top and a T-shirt labeled “The Chosen One” featuring an image of Kid Rock, Tucker Carlson and the late Hulk Hogan with a halo looking over Newsom. There’s at least one person who will not be purchasing any of these items: Fox News personality Will Cain. On an episode of The Will Cain Show, the host went off on Newsom for purportedly selling Bibles. “He seems to have found ground, legs with the left by mocking President Trump,” Cain cried on TV. “Like the ChatGPT personality, he’s just borrowing now from President Trump, copying his style with X posts, now he’s even going for his own MAGA style merch.”
…
Newsom’s antics have already reached the White House, as earlier this month, Trump took to Truth Social to call out his fellow politician. He raged, “Gavin Newscum is way down in the polls. He is viewed as the man who is destroying the once Great State of California. I will save California!!! President DJT.”

Community rallies in Milford after teen briefly detained by ICE agents
Dozens of people gathered at a rally Sunday afternoon in Milford after ICE agents briefly detained a 16-year-old student.
Video from traffic surveillance cameras showed Gustavo Oliveira, 16, who was traveling as a passenger in a white car before he was stopped by two ICE agents in downtown Milford.
Oliviera’s friends said he was detained by the agents and later released.
The traffic stop drew the attention of a large crowd as ICE agents questioned the teenager.
Oliveira’s friends said Gustavo is a student at Milford High School and is originally from Brazil.
Rallyers on Sunday said they wanted to offer immigrant families their support.
“This week, another young man was detained by ICE. Gustavo was soon released, but this is the second time a young man on the cusp of adulthood has had to act with courage and grace, as we have to ask ourselves who we are as a community,” one rallyer said.
Tina Ryan was among the 75 supporters who showed up at the rally.
“We’ve been delivering food to families who cannot leave home and don’t have transportation,” Ryan said. “We’re here today because we’re saddened and disgusted that ICE keeps destroying families.”
Oliveira’s friends said he is OK but was shaken up by what happened.
“They should not have gotten him because he is under 18, and he started really crying in the car,” one friend said.
In May, another Milford High School student, Marcelo Gomes da Silva, was detained for his undocumented status following a traffic stop while he was on his way to volleyball practice.
Gomes da Silva was released from ICE custody after nearly a week, his story igniting a firestorm surrounding immigration policy in Massachusetts.
On Sunday morning, ICE agents detained another man who was traveling in a minivan while on Concord Street in Sudbury.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was eventually taken away by ICE agents, while the female passenger he was with was left behind in their van.
WCVB reached out to ICE for comment on the Milford and Sudbury arrests, but has not heard back

Atlanta Black Star News: ‘Lock Them…Up’: Donald Trump Exposed In International Spy Plot Involving Three Americans
Denmark has accused President Donald Trump and his administration of carrying out a secret influence campaign in Greenland to promote secession from Denmark to the U.S.
The country’s foreign minister summoned the top U.S. diplomat to Copenhagen after Denmark’s main national broadcaster reported that at least three Americans with ties to Trump had been identified in connection with the covert operation.
State broadcaster DR said it knows the names of the operatives but decided not to reveal them. It also said its information on Trump’s covert campaign came from eight sources and that Danish intelligence services had uncovered the “influence operations” aimed at causing a rift between Denmark and its territory.
The Trump administration’s response? A White House official would not confirm the operation but did say, “We think the Danes need to calm down,” according to the BBC.
The State Department did confirm in a statement that Deputy Chief of Mission in Copenhagen Mark Stroh had met with Danish officials, but said, in terms of the alleged influence campaign, it would not comment “on the actions of private U.S. citizens in Greenland.”
“The U.S. government does not control or direct the actions of private citizens,” it said.
State Department Officials said Stroh had “a productive conversation and reaffirmed the strong ties among the Government of Greenland, the United States, and Denmark,” NPR reported.
The statement went on to say the U.S. relationship with Denmark and NATO is a valuable one and that Trump and his top officials have all said they respect “the right of the people of Greenland to determine their own future.”
“We continue to foster engagement and cooperation with Denmark and Greenland to support increased security and prosperity for our nations,” it said.
Trump has said repeatedly he wants Greenland and has not ruled out military action to take control of the semiautonomous, mineral-rich Arctic Island.
Denmark and Greenland have rebuffed Trump’s stated goals and said the island is not for sale. They also condemned reports of U.S. intelligence gathering operations there, according to NPR.
The report alleged that one of those involved in the covert campaign created a list of U.S.-friendly Greenlanders and the names of anti-Trumpers. They also gathered information from locals that could be used against Denmark by American media.
The report also found two other people with ties to Trump tried to develop contacts with politicians and businesses.
Social media users had a lot to say about the operation, “Trump and the Republican Party are Russian assets and traitors to this country,” Terri Gorler stated on Threads.
Another Threads user blamed Republicans for going along with Trump’s scheming.
“Dear Republicans, Really? This is what the current administration is doing (and doing badly)? They are attempting to infiltrate Greenland’s society to convince people to ‘sell’ Greenland to the U.S., and you’re okay with that? How does this not violate international law and our Constitution? Sincerely, A Pissed Off American.”
“So not shocked,” Colleen Lane chimed in.
This Threads user didn’t hold back and used a phrase Trump repeatedly used on the campaign trail in 2016 against his opponent, Hillary Clinton, over emails she had stored insecurely.
“Lock them the f#ck up.”
Raw Story: Stephen Miller’s ex-classmate spills details: ‘He craved triggering the good-looking kids’
In high school, Stephen Miller was trying to “triggering the good-looking kids,” according to a new report Sunday.
Rolling Stone reported over the weekend that Miller was being “gossiped” about behind his back even in Trump’s White House.
As part of the broader report diving into Miller’s background and role at the White House, the outlet interviewed an individual who went to school with the man who is now the deputy chief of staff for policy for Trump’s second term in the Oval Office.
“As a teenager in Santa Monica, California, Miller craved nothing more than triggering the good-looking kids in school who wanted nothing to do with him,” the report states before introducing Jason Islas, who first met Miller at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, and “says he and Miller and a third friend were a tight-knit band of outsiders who spent middle school doing preteen-boy stuff, like talking about Star Trek (Islas remembers Miller as a big Captain Kirk fan).”
The report continues:
“That all changed, though, in the summer of 1999, between eighth and ninth grades, when, Islas says, Miller informed him they couldn’t be friends anymore. ‘One of the things he did say was that he didn’t like the fact that I’m of Latin heritage,’ Islas recalls.”
