News Nation: Tensions escalate at ICE processing center in Illinois

Tensions ran high Sunday night outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Illinois, where about 20 to 30 protesters gathered in the Chicago suburb of Broadview.

What was happening inside the gates remained unclear, but outside, demonstrators clashed with immigration agents and officers.

Crews with NewsNation affiliate WGN observed armed and masked agents in full gear guarding vehicles leaving the property, including a bus and two SUVs.

Each time the gates opened, protesters shouted and jeered, while ICE officers twice fired pepper bullets in their direction.

WGN reached out to ICE for comment but has not received a response.

News Nation: Community outraged as ICE raid sparks questions in Chicago

Chicago community was fired up Monday after an alleged Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid on the city’s South Side.

NewsNation affiliate WGN was told several people donning FBI vests illegally entered a business and a residence, taking two Mexican nationals into custody.

“We are, right now, investigating the reason why those neighbors have been detained without a warrant,” Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez said.

Sigcho-Lopez said the raid happened around 8:30 a.m.

“In both instances, the video footage and the witness’s recollection, there was no warrant,” Sigcho-Lopez. “It’s questionable if they even attempted to identify the people they ultimately detained.”
