Raw Story: Stephen Miller’s ex-classmate spills details: ‘He craved triggering the good-looking kids’

In high school, Stephen Miller was trying to “triggering the good-looking kids,” according to a new report Sunday.

Rolling Stone reported over the weekend that Miller was being “gossiped” about behind his back even in Trump’s White House.

As part of the broader report diving into Miller’s background and role at the White House, the outlet interviewed an individual who went to school with the man who is now the deputy chief of staff for policy for Trump’s second term in the Oval Office.

“As a teenager in Santa Monica, California, Miller craved nothing more than triggering the good-looking kids in school who wanted nothing to do with him,” the report states before introducing Jason Islas, who first met Miller at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, and “says he and Miller and a third friend were a tight-knit band of outsiders who spent middle school doing preteen-boy stuff, like talking about Star Trek (Islas remembers Miller as a big Captain Kirk fan).”

The report continues:

“That all changed, though, in the summer of 1999, between eighth and ninth grades, when, Islas says, Miller informed him they couldn’t be friends anymore. ‘One of the things he did say was that he didn’t like the fact that I’m of Latin heritage,’ Islas recalls.”

Raw Story: White House forced to deny report that Stephen Miller ‘likes to play with porcelain dolls’

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller does not enjoy playing with dolls, and any assertion otherwise is “baseless gossip,” the White House was forced to tell a reporter.

Rolling Stone published a deep-dive report on Miller over the weekend, in which it is revealed that Trump officials call Miller nicknames behind his back, and are “paranoid” that he will find out. The report also includes a quote from a former classmate, who says Miller dropped him as a friend due to his Latin heritage.

But it doesn’t stop there. The outlet also delves into Miller’s time during Obama’s presidency.

“In the decades that followed, Miller did not grow — except to become more hardened in his extremist views,” according to the report. “When he worked as a communications aide in the office of Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions during the Obama years, he was so widely disliked by his conservative colleagues on Capitol Hill that Republican staff in other offices would invent or spread malicious rumors about Miller, such as that he liked to play with porcelain dolls.”

Rolling Stone reached out to the White House about Miller during this time, and they offered a statement:

“A White House official insists that any such characterization of his time on the Hill is ‘inaccurate and baseless gossip,'” the outlet notes.

The report goes even further, saying, “The staffers at the time never dreamed that he’d ever amount to much more than a punch line or an obscure cautionary tale of what happens when you read too many far-right hate websites and dive into Washington’s most feverish swamps.”

Raw Story: ‘He’s definitely not well’: Internet pounces on new Trump pics after ‘dead’ hashtag trends

At least one popular liberal influencer suggested that the new photos showing Trump “alive and well” were actually from 2023.

Donald Trump has been criticized for not being as visible lately, some say due to the large bruising he is suffering on his hands and swelling in his ankles, leading a #Trumpdead hashtag to trend on the popular right-wing hot spot X.

After the rumors spread online, the conservative New York Post over the weekend published a story called, “President Trump is alive and well after bizarre, false online speculation suggested he died,” in which the outlet published new photos of the president.

But the new pictures didn’t impress everyone, with critics noting his diminished appearance in the photos.

Ron Filipkowski said, “He may be alive, but he’s definitely not well,” in reference to the Post’s new pictures.

Conservative attorney George Conway on Saturday joked, “Has anyone checked in on President Vance,” to which political scientist Norman Ornstein responded, “George come on, the president is [Project 2025 architect] Russell Vought!”

Conservative Reed Galen asked, “Where’s Donald?”

Conservative analyst Brigitte Gabriel hit back against some of the comments on Saturday, saying, “It’s sickening to see so many leftists on social media spreading false rumors about President Trump and his health.”

“The Democrats have no class,” said Gabriel, who previously speculated about Joe Biden’s death when Biden was still the U.S. president. The comment section on Gabriel’s post was flooded with reminders of her asking if Biden was secretly deceased.

Raw Story: ‘Legally debated’: Experts say Trump’s ‘midnight’ move is ‘first step toward a shut down’

Donald Trump just made a “legally debated” move that will put us on the course toward a shut down next month, according to political experts.

The conservative New York Post reported in a “midnight scoop” that Trump had scrapped $5 billion in foreign aid in a “rare” action called a “pocket rescission.” According to Post reporter Steven Nelson, it is a “legally debated maneuver that hasn’t been used in 48 years.”

“President Trump is moving to cancel nearly $5 billion in congressionally approved foreign aid and peacekeeping spending in a rare ‘pocket rescission,’ The Post has learned — making use of a legally debated maneuver that hasn’t been done in 48 years,” Nelson reported. “Trump on Thursday night notified Congress of his request to cancel the funds, which had been tied up in a court case until earlier in the day.”

The report notes, “A pocket rescission is a request that’s presented to Congress so late in the fiscal year — which ends Sept. 30 — that it’s made regardless of whether Congress acts.”

But reporters were quick to sound an alarm.

Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman flagged the news over night going into Friday, saying, “This would be the first step toward a shutdown next month.”

Co-founder John Bresnahan agreed, writing, “This could very well lead to a shutdown.”

One X user, District of Aluminum, added, “Vainglorious Russ Vought has decided to jeopardize a government shutdown with a $5 Billion ‘Pocket Rescission’ of foreign aid. He should have worked with Congress through appropriations. The villainy lies in his certainty that he alone knows the soul of America.”

Raw Story: California just ‘flipped the script’ on GOP after major ‘bluff’ was called: report

California “bluffed” its way into flipping the script on Republicans and Donald Trump, according to a new report.

Politico on Saturday published a story called, How California bluffed its way into a redistricting war with Trump, in which the outlet quotes “nearly 50 people involved with the effort” who “shared details with POLITICO about the tightly guarded process.”

California is currently in the process of potentially altering its district maps in response to Texas’ redistricting. But it started off as a “bluff,” according to reporters.

“When word got out that Texas might undertake an extraordinary mid-decade redistricting at Donald Trump’s behest, a handful of top California Democratic operatives floated an idea to Rep. Zoe Lofgren: Could California respond in kind?” according to the weekend report. “Lofgren, the chair of California’s 43-member Democratic delegation, consulted in June with a trusted data expert who dismissed it as absurd — a foolhardy end-run around the state’s popular redistricting panel with no guarantee of yielding enough blue seats to fully offset Texas. Deterred by those misgivings, California Democrats instead spent weeks putting up a front, dangling the threat of a countermove without making any real plans to do so.”

The piece quotes Lofgren as saying, “It seemed to me worth a bluff… If the Texans and Trump thought they’d go through all of this and they’d end up not gaining anything, maybe they would stop.”

She then added, “But they didn’t stop… They just doubled down.”

However, the bluff soon met reality.

“So did California Democrats, especially Gov. Gavin Newsom. In a matter of weeks, they bluffed themselves into the marquee political contest of Trump’s second term, a high-voltage fight to shape the outcome of the 2026 midterms and the remaining years of his presidency,” according to the outlet.

Summing up, the reporters wrote, “In the end, 87 of 90 Democrats voted to put the maps on the ballot — a display of consensus that [Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas] said was made possible by the California-under-siege mentality that had been building up ever since Trump re-took the White House.”

“It’s Whac-a-mole. We’ve been trying to play defense,” Rivas reportedly added. “But we finally just threw up our hands and said, ‘We’ve got to flip the script.’”

Raw Story: ‘Trump is terrified’: Senator says president is scared he ‘poked the bear’ in power grab

Donald Trump just “poked the bear,” and now he’s “terrified,” according to a longtime thorn in the president’s side.

Adam Schiff, one of California’s two senators, the lead prosecutor in Trump’s first impeachment trial, and a January 6th Committee member, called Trump’s attacks on him a “badge of honor” in a message to supporters on Sunday.

“Unless you are part of the MAGA world, in which case you may recognize me from Trump’s frequent attacks and name calling like ‘sleazebag,’ ‘traitor,’ or more recently, ‘one of the true lowlifes in the history of politics in America,'” the senator wrote. “A true badge of honor.”

Schiff went on to call out Trump for purported attacks on democracy.

“Trump is at it again. But this time his attacks aren’t just against me, he’s going after our very democracy,” he wrote. “You see, Trump is terrified of losing his majority in the midterms. And his solution isn’t to end his pointless tariff wars, stop the indiscriminate masked ICE raids, or rethink his deeply unpopular Big Ugly Bill. It’s to demand Republicans in Texas redraw their Congressional maps.”

Schiff continued, saying, “It’s sad. It’s tragic. But if Texas acts, California must respond.”

“I was proud to stand with our Governor, Gavin Newsom, as he introduced California’s Election Rigging Response Act,” he then added. “The people of our state will vote this November. If we win, we’ll nullify anything Texas does. If we lose… then Trump may very well have two more years of unchecked power.”

The lawmaker concluded, “Donald Trump has poked the bear. It’s time to fight back.”

Raw Story: Trump said to be getting ‘what he deserves’ as judge he ‘detests’ assigned to Epstein case

A judge hated by Donald Trump was just assigned a major case seeking to get the Trump administration to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein, according to analysts.

Commentator Brian Tyler Cohen published a video over the weekend featuring former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner. The video, called “Trump gets what he DESERVES in court over Epstein,” the two media analysts discuss Trump drawing Judge Chutkan in the Epstein case brought under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

In an article called “Judge Detested by Trump Will Oversee Epstein Files Case,” The New Republic recently pointed out Chutkan’s history of upsetting Trump when she presided over his criminal trial in D.C.

Kirschner said he is “sure” that the Trump lawyers are “less than thrilled” that she’s the judge.

Raw Story: Appeals court rules against Trump admin in big case — and gives deadline to comply

A federal appeals court ruled over the weekend that Donald Trump’s administration’s moves on government spending are an affront to the Constitution and disclosure laws, according to Politico.

According to the outlet, the three-judge D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals panel voted unanimously to “shoot down a Trump administration bid to make secret a public database of federal spending that researchers say is crucial to ensure the administration is not flouting Congress’ power of the purse.” The court also imposed a deadline, according to the report.

The court reportedly gave “the administration until Friday to put the data back online.”

“Two of the three appeals judges assigned to the matter also signed onto a forceful opinion declaring that the administration’s bid to conceal the data was an affront to Congress’ authority over government spending, one that threatened the separation of powers and defied centuries of evidence that public disclosure is necessary for the public good,” according to the report.

Politico further noted that, “Judge Karen Henderson, a George H.W. Bush appointee, wrote in support of the decision to deny the Trump administration’s request to keep the data under wraps while litigation over the issue goes forward,” and quoted her as saying, “No court would allow a losing party to defy its judgment. No President would allow a usurper to command our armed forces.”

She added, “And no Congress should be made to wait while the Executive intrudes on its plenary power over appropriations.”

Raw Story: DOJ lawyer ‘put his foot in his mouth’ in front of ‘righteously indignant’ judge

The Justice Department’s lawyer “put his foot in his mouth the minute he started and never seemed to get it out” in a recent hearing, according to a former prosecutor.

Ex-federal prosecutor Joyce Vance highlighted a high-profile case in which, as the Washington Post put it, “a federal judge in Maryland sharply rebuked a Justice Department attorney” after “an immigration official could not answer basic questions about the Trump administration’s plans to deport Kilmar Abrego García if he is released pending trial on federal human-smuggling charges against him in Tennessee.”

In the Maryland hearing this week, “Judge Paula Xinis heard testimony from a witness she had directed the government to present, and it turned out that the testimony failed to answer some of the very basic questions she has about the case,” according to Vance. She said they were questions such as, “What do you plan to do with Mr. Abrego Garcia if he’s released, and in what country, other than El Salvador, where the government is currently prohibited from sending him, might you dump him?”

Vance went on to ridicule the DOJ’s position in the case.

“The government is taking a ridiculous posture, saying that unless and until he’s released from criminal custody in the Tennessee case, they aren’t making any plans at all—they just have some vague ideas about the possibilities,” she wrote. “Given that this is the same government we now know from the Erez Reuveni whistleblower case doesn’t feel compelled to comply with courts that rule against Donald Trump’s desired course of action, it’s easy to understand why the Judge was skeptical of the government, telling their lawyers she could no longer presume they were acting in good faith at one point. The presumption of regularity entitles the government to an assumption by the court that its actions are valid and in accordance with the law, placing a burden on any party challenging it to prove otherwise.”

Vance highlighted Xinis’ comment to the DOJ lawyer: “You have taken the presumption of regularity and you’ve destroyed it in my view.”

“The government acted like everything was business as usual and this was just an ordinary case. But this Judge understands that it is not. Abrego Garcia’s lawyers made such a modest request, functional due process, just a couple of days’ notice before their client is dropped in a hellhole like South Sudan,” she wrote. “The government’s lawyer put his foot in his mouth the minute he started and never seemed to get it out. For starters, the Judge had asked yesterday for basic paperwork, the detainer that ICE was using to hold Abrego Garcia. But it took them until midway through the hearing to provide it to her. That’s an inexcusable failure on the government’s part that fairly shouts disrespect to the court.”

The analyst continued:

“The government told Judge Xinis they can either deport Abrego Garcia to a third country of their choice or reopen withholding proceedings… But the government wouldn’t commit to either option or even hint at its thinking.”

She added, “The Judge was righteously indignant that the government wouldn’t say what it wants to do, maintaining the fiction that some randomly assigned desk officer will decide what happens on the fly if Abrego Garcia is returned to their custody, just like they would in any normal case. It’s ridiculous. The government is saying ‘f— you’ to the courts over and over again, and the courts seem to be getting the message.”

Raw Story: ‘Huge news’: Judge denies Trump’s motion to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia in custody

Donald Trump’s administration lost its bid to keep a wrongly deported Maryland man, Kilmar Ábrego García, in custody.

García, who was purportedly sent to El Salvador in error, was recently returned to the United States to face federal criminal charges.

According to legal expert Anna Bower on Sunday, “A federal magistrate judge DENIES the government’s motion to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia in custody while his criminal charges are pending.”

“A separate order will enter, following hearing, directing Abrego’s release on conditions,” she wrote, quoting the order dated Sunday.
