MSNBC: Trump admin accepts jet from Qatar, ignoring legal restrictions and bipartisan pushback

Team Trump’s decision to accept the Qatari “gift” doesn’t end the controversy; it starts the controversy.

The Times’ report added that the Defense Department “has not given an estimate of when the work on the Qatari plane might be done, even though Mr. Trump and the White House have made clear the president wants it soon, perhaps even by the end of the year.”

What the president “wants” is likely to prove irrelevant: NBC News recently reported that converting the luxury jet will “take years to complete.”

Indeed, it’s worth emphasizing that the administration’s decision to accept the Qatari “gift” doesn’t end the controversy; it starts the controversy.

Now that this plan is moving forward, the president and his White House team should prepare for a series of questions for which there are no easy answers. Where will Trump find the money to pay for this “free” plane? Why does he keep pretending that this “gift” isn’t for him personally, even after he’s publicly suggested otherwise? How does Trump intend to overcome the seemingly obvious fact that the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause still exists, and it appears to prohibit exactly this kind of arrangement?

Why was Attorney General Pam Bondi involved in approving this process after having served as a paid registered lobbyist for Qatar? How does Trump plan to explain away his earlier condemnations of presidents accepting foreign gifts? Why is the president apparently indifferent to the fact that even many of his Republican allies have expressed opposition to this idea? Will Congress have any role in approving the transfer, as is required for such gestures of international generosity?

The Times: James Comey on Trump: ‘He’s the monster in a horror sequel’

The former FBI director was sacked in 2017, four months into Donald Trump’s first term of office. Now James Comey is at the centre of an extraordinary row about his ‘86 47’ Instagram post

When I speak to James Comey about his past battles with Donald Trump, the state of America and his new novel about free speech and its consequences, the former director of the FBI is on holiday at the beach. He is in a relaxed mood, with no reason to suspect that within hours he will be engulfed in a fresh storm.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump in his first term in dramatic circumstances, had warned before the election that the idea of Donald back in the White House “bent on retribution and destroying the system is chilling”. So I ask if he had experienced any of that retribution.

“Well, not in Trump 2.0. But with the interviews I’m doing around the launch of this book, maybe I’ll get my own executive order. We’ll see,” he says lightly. “I dealt with most of my retribution in Trump 1.0, where I was investigated repeatedly. I had the most aggressive tax audit imaginable, and they ended up owing me $347, but it cost me thousands of dollars to get to that. I went through it in Trump 1.0. I was on the enemies list before there was an enemies list. Nothing so far in 2.0, but it’s early yet.”

A few hours later, he is under investigation by the Trump administration and the Maga world is alight with calls for his arrest and jailing. This comes as a consequence of a walk on the beach and a photograph posted to Instagram — then quickly deleted — of some shells arranged to form the numbers “86 47”.

MSNBC: Budget office: Republicans’ megabill would give to the rich and take from the poor

If GOP officials are looking for good news in the Congressional Budget Office’s new report on the party’s reconciliation package, they won’t find any.

Common sense might suggest that congressional Republicans would want to know basic details about their giant reconciliation package, such as how much it would cost and the practical implications of its provisions. GOP lawmakers are, after all, federal policymakers. It stands to reason that they’d care enough about governing to want to legislate with open eyes.

But that’s not the case. Just as Republicans scrambled in 2017 to pass massive tax breaks without waiting for a score from the Congressional Budget Office, GOP lawmakers decided to do the same thing in 2025, deliberately choosing willful ignorance about their own legislation.

That did not, however, stop congressional Democrats from asking the CBO to scrutinize the House Republicans’ proposal, and as The Associated Press reported, the nonpartisan budget office’s findings were quite brutal.

Rolling Stone: ‘Intentionally Hiding’: GOP Tries to Sneak Through Medicaid Cuts in Dead of Night

Republicans scheduled a critical meeting of the House Rules Committee for 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The marathon hearing – in which lawmakers questioned the chairs and ranking members of various committees involved in the production of the reconciliation bill – lasted over eight hours. It did not escape notice that the late-night hearing took place during hours when most journalists, government officials, and interested members of the public would be at home and asleep.

“It’s just over 100 days you guys have gone from promising to lower costs to ripping away people’s health care. Of course you don’t want anybody to know what you’re doing here,” Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said around 1:30 a.m. “It’s because you know this bill betrays the people who voted for you.”

“You have the most ineffective Congress in the century, you passed almost no legislation into law, and this is how you want to roll out your big centerpiece legislation at 1:00 in the morning?” McGovern added. “This isn’t just incompetence. It’s much more nefarious than that. You are intentionally hiding what you are doing. What an insult to the people of this country, what disdain you guys must have for the people who voted for you.”

Raw Story: Marjorie Taylor Greene complains nothing gets done ‘even though we’re in charge’

Marjorie Taylor Greene said Sunday she isn’t satisfied with what Donald Trump’s administration has so far been able to accomplish.

After commenting on former President Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis, the MAGA ally turned to X to talk about how little Trump’s team has been able to find out about those who tried to assassinate him.

“Thomas Crooks shot Pres Trump and we still know nothing even though we are in charge,” she wrote Sunday.

She continued, saying that “Ryan Routh tried to assassinate him and we still have not seen his trial,” before turning to a more current development. “James Comey threatens to assassinate him and publicly calls for it and he’s on his way to a best seller.”

She then added, “Trump makes a phone call to Zelensky and gets impeached. Trump says ‘go peacefully and make your voices heard’ and gets impeached again. Bannon and Navarro go to jail for refusing to show for a sham congressional subpoena, but Christopher Wray walks free for refusing to show for our congressional subpoena.”

“Don’t tell me to get outraged when nothing is done to hold these people accountable. No accountability means people stop caring,” she concluded.

Must be really difficult being one of MAGA’s biggest airheads! She just rambles from ancient history episode to another.

Guardian: Oklahoma high schools to teach 2020 election conspiracy theories as fact

State superintendent Ryan Walters tapped chief of Heritage Foundation, key player behind Project 2025, for curriculum

As part of the latest Republican push in red states to promote ideologies sympathetic to Donald Trump, Oklahoma’s new social studies curriculum will ask high school students to identify “discrepancies” in the 2020 election results.

The previous standard for studying the 2020 election merely said: “Examine issues related to the election of 2020 and its outcome.” The new version is more expansive: “Identify discrepancies in 2020 elections results by looking at graphs and other information, including the sudden halting of ballot-counting in select cities in key battleground states, the security risks of mail-in balloting, sudden batch dumps, an unforeseen record number of voters, and the unprecedented contradiction of ‘bellwether county’ trends.”

The revised curriculum standard comes at the behest of Ryan Walters, the state school superintendent, who has publicly voiced his support for Trump. In October, Walters lauded Trump in an interview, saying that “Trump’s won the argument on education”.

Walters, who has also advocated for ending “wokeness” in public schools, went on to say: “We have education bureaucrats that are left-wing, elitist, that think they know best for families, and they have become so radicalized that our families are going: ‘What is going on here?’”

Oklahoma’s new social studies standards for K-12 public school students, already infused with references to the Bible and national pride, were revised at Walters’ direction. The Republican official has spent much of his first term in office not only lauding Trump but also feuding with teachers’ unions and local school superintendents.

“The left has been pushing left-wing indoctrination in the classroom,” Walters said. “We’re moving it back to actually understanding history … and I’m unapologetic about that.”

History according to whose warped pathetic viewpoint?

ATTENTION & WARNING, employers, colleges, and universities: Students from Oklahoma may require extension remedial coursework to mitigate ill effects of institutionalized Trump derangement syndrome.

Alternet: BUSTED: James Comey’s cryptic ‘8647’ doesn’t mean what Trump voters say it means

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem [Bimbo #2], FBI Director Kash Patel and other far-right MAGA Republicans are calling for an investigation of former FBI Director James Comey in response to an Instagram post that depicted seashells in the sand forming the numbers “8647.”

The slang expression “eight-six” means to “remove” or “eject,” and Donald Trump is the 47th president of the United States. Noem [Bimbo #2], in a May 15 post on X, formerly Twitter, claimed that Comey was promoting violence against President Trump.

Noem [Bimbo #2] tweeted, “Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump. DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately.”

But Noem’s [Bimbo #2’s] critics are reminding her that the term “eight-six” doesn’t automatically have a violent connotation. When restaurant workers, for example, say that they need to “eight-six” an order, it means cancel the order. Or a bar might “eighty-six” a customer who has had too much to drink.

Liberal firebrand and former MSNBC host Keith Olberman, in response to Noem’s [Bimbo #2’s] tweet, posted, “Listen, you lying witch, he didn’t call for assassinating anyone. Since you murdered your daughter’s dog maybe you ought to S— about this.”

Rolling Stone: Trump Lies That His Bill Cuts Taxes For Everyone, When It Raises Them on the Poor

One of the main priorities of the reconciliation package is to codify Trump’s 2017 tax cuts – which heavily favored wealthy Americans – into permanent law. But the tax package produced by the House Ways and Mean Committee won’t actually reduce taxes for all Americans. In fact, it will raise taxes on the poor.

According to an analysis by Congress’ Joint Committee on Taxation, Trump’s reconciliation bill will raise taxes on Americans earning under $15,000 in 2027. By 2029 and going forward, the legislation will continue to increase taxes on those individuals, as well Americans earning between $15,000 and $30,000.

Millionaires, meanwhile, will see tax cuts in each year included in the analysis. In two of four years, according to the JCT analysis, millionaires will see a larger average decrease in their tax rate than Americans will overall.

Washington Post: Trump peddles false conspiracy theories tying Clintons to several deaths

Among a litany of social media posts shared by Donald Trump on Saturday, the sitting president dredged up a 2016 video rehashing old, false claims implying that former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton are tied to several deaths.

Trump has made thousands of false or misleading statements about his political opponents across his two terms in office, and he has repeatedly vowed to use the power of the federal government to punish his foes. Democrats have long warned that such baseless rhetoric could lead to violence.

The video, overlaid with the caption, “THE VIDEO HILLARY CLINTON DOES NOT WANT YOU TO SEE,” perpetuates the long-standing “Clinton body count” conspiracy theory, which claims that the Clintons are responsible for the deaths of several individuals who could be seen as political opponents. The claims, however, are false.

It’s hard to contemplate an American president behaving in this manner, but here he is!

Daily Beast: Ex-GOP Rep Rips ‘Weak Loser’ Trump Over Walmart Tantrum

The president rage-tweeted that the retail giant would just have to “EAT THE TARIFFS” after the supermarket giant raised prices.

Donald Trump‘s tantrum about Walmart upping its prices over his tariffs has prompted furious backlash from members of his own party.

“What a weak loser thing to do!” former GOP Congressman Joe Walsh of Illinois told MSNBC, describing the president as “that crybaby in the White House.”

Fellow former Rep. Charlie Dent, a Republican from Pennsylvania, appeared on the same broadcast, further tearing into Trump for leading his supporters to believe the effects of tariffs would not hit consumers.“This will absolutely be inflationary,” Dent said on Saturday’s broadcast. “Trump can go ahead and blame Walmart or any retailer for raising prices, but this is going to have a real impact.”

Trump’s meltdown unfolded on Saturday morning after Walmart executives announced the company would raise prices in response to higher import costs caused by the president’s trade war.
