Raw Story: ICE officials living in a ‘culture of fear’ as arrests lag and jobs threatened: report

A shakeup is looming at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) because Donald Trump’s White House has become increasingly frustrated with the pace of arrests of undocumented immigrants — and now jobs are on the line.

According to a report from the New York Times, regional ICE officials are being asked to explain why arrest numbers are down which led former senior ICE official Claire Trickler-McNulty to explain, “They are under constant threat; people are ground down; it’s a culture of fear.”

Noting that the agency has been in constant turmoil, Trickler-McNulty added, “There has been so much shuffling of deck chairs — I can’t imagine anyone even having the ability to take on real challenges.”

With the administration setting a goal of 600,000 deportations by the end of Trump’s first year of his second term, the report states the numbers are falling from the proposed 3,000 immigrants per day, ordered by Trump advisor Stephen Miller, down to slightly more than 1,000 a day.

Poor crybabies! They’re terrorizing our communities while they whine about their own “culture of fear” because they haven’t terrorized enough people.

F*ck ’em!

Raw Story: ‘A recipe for disaster’: ICE scorched over recruitment chaos

Reacting to a NBC News report that the rush to put more masked ICE agents on the streets is resulting in a flood of applicants who have violent histories and possible criminal backgrounds, the panel on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” warned chaos on U.S. cities is about to take a turn for the worse.

As co-host Mike Brzezinski reported, “ICE officials later discovered that some recruits had criminal backgrounds, failed drug tests, or did not meet physical or academic standards. What’s more, some recruits had not submitted fingerprints for background checks, which is a violation of ICE hiring policy. In fact, one recruit had prior charges for strong-armed robbery and battery related to domestic violence.”

“Additionally, nearly half of recruits failed the written exam, even with access to notes and textbooks,” she continued. “All of this as ICE has shortened its training program from 13 weeks to six weeks to accelerate the on-boarding process. ICE’s HR office is reportedly overwhelmed by more than 150,000 applicants, spurred by a $50,000 signing bonus.”

Raw Story: Trump increasingly angry as judges he hired hit him with ‘stark rejections’: report

Donald Trump is growing increasingly frustrated that some of the political initiatives of his second term are running into legal roadblocks — particularly as some of his judicial appointees are the ones running interference.

According to a report from Politico’s Kyle Cheney, Trump’s selections to the Supreme Court, Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, have been reliably siding with him on a series of short-term wins via the so-called “shadow docket,” but he continues to suffer setbacks from district judges he nominated to the bench — including one he put in place recently.

That has led to the president privately fuming and then complaining on social media about advisers and outside groups who vetted the judicial nominees for him.

Citing Trump setbacks on deporting immigrants, banning the Associated Press from the White House, handcuffing his tariff campaign, and, most recently, limiting his ability to send National Guard troops into Portland, Cheney noted Trump complained on Truth Social late Saturday, “I wasn’t served well by the people that pick judges.”

According to the Politico report, Trump’s latest broadside “came four months after he similarly sounded off about the ‘bad advice’ he got from the conservative Federalist Society for his first-term judicial nominations — a reaction to a ruling, backed by a Trump-appointed judge, rejecting his power to impose sweeping tariffs on U.S. trading partners.”

The report noted, “While Trump and his allies have spent all year leveling pointed attacks at Democratic judicial appointees, labeling them rogue insurrectionists and radicals, the president is increasingly facing stark rejections from people he put on the bench.”

The trouble the president is running into is being attributed to home-state senators, who are being accused of pushing Trump to “nominate more moderate picks than they might otherwise in states dominated by the opposing party.”

“Still, in some cases in which Trump-appointed judges have heard Trump-related cases, they have gone further than simply ruling against his policies. They have delivered sweeping warnings about the expansion of executive power, the erosion of checks and balances and have criticized his attacks on judges writ large,” Cheney wrote.

Raw Story: ‘Stench of their product’: Trump snarls at news network in overnight rant on name change

Trump spent part of his evening touting his big win in Texas, where Republicans passed their redistricting bill, citing a poll by writing, “59% APPROVAL RATING FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP, MASSIVE LEAD OVER THE DEMOCRATS,” without citing what poll he was speaking of.

He then lashed out at California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been a thorn in his side on social media, by writing, “Gavin Newscum is way down in the polls. He is viewed as the man who is destroying the once Great State of California. I will save California!!! President DJT,” again without what polls he is talking about.

One hour later, he attacked Comcast, a frequent target, with an all-caps attack.

“MSNBC IS DOING SO POORLY IN THE RATINGS THAT THEY ARE LOOKING TO CHANGE THEIR NAME IN ORDER TO GET AWAY FROM THE STENCH OF THEIR FAKE NEWS PRODUCT. SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH THEIR WEAK AND INEFFECTIVE OWNER, “CONCAST,” HEADED BY DOPEY BRIAN ROBERTS, HOPELESSLY AND AIMLESSLY FLAILING IN THE WIND IN AN ATTEMPT TO DISASSOCIATE ITSELF FROM THE GARBAGE THAT THEY CREATED! MSNBC IS A FAILURE BY ANY NAME!!!” he claimed.

Raw Story: ‘This is not a judge’: Jasmine Crockett pokes huge hole in Texas lawmaker arrest warrants

The warrants issued to arrest Texas Democrats who fled the state to stymie a GOP attempt to redistrict the state lack the legal weight to do what the Republicans want them do.

That is the opinion of Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) who was asked, as an attorney, about the FBI reportedly getting involved in tracking the lawmakers down.

Appearing with MSNBC host Ali Velshi on Saturday, she was asked, “Quick question for you: because you’re a lawyer, why would [FBI director] Kash Patel take [Texas Republican] John Cornyn’s phone call about getting the FBI to round up people? I don’t know what the crime is.”

“There is no crime, you already know this,” the Texas Democrat replied. “And just so people understand, even the warrants that they put out for them, they are signed by the speaker of the [Texas] House. I mean, this is not a law, a law enforcement official. This is not a judge. This is not a prosecutor. This is no one whomsoever would normally sign off on a warrant.”

“And that is because it is not a criminal warrant,” she elaborated. “This is only giving license to someone who is found within the state of Texas, to then grab them and take them back to the [legislature] chamber. If they take them anywhere other than the chamber, then they are looking at a civil rights violation because they have not broken any laws.”

“So this is just a matter of a civil situation and frankly, this is a family situation as far as i’m concerned, because basically, the family known as the legislators in the Texas House have decided that they don’t want to come to the table and have a conversation about doing right by Texas,” she added. “They have decided that they would steamroll and disrespect their colleagues as well as their constituents in this moment, so that they can appease the mad king.”

So apparently the “arrest warrants” that King Donald’s FBI lackeys are helping Texas to enforce are invalid outside of Texas — there is no actual crime, and they are not signed by a judge.

Raw Story: ‘You don’t have immunity’: Stephen Miller and ICE agents put on notice by legal expert

Government employees who have been doing Donald Trump’s dirty work during his second term should take note that the president recently admitted they may not have immunity for their actions.

And that includes White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and ICE agents who have been assaulting and snatching immigrants off U.S. streets whether they are in the country legally or not.

That was a warning given by conservative attorney George Conway on MSNBC on Saturday morning where he talked about, among other topics, Trump’s appointees going up to the line and sometimes over thereby breaking the law.

Speaking with the hosts of “The Weekend,” Conway stated, “There’s no check against him anymore, there’s no checks. He actually, by the way, he was a lot more coherent a few years ago than yesterday, but let’s set that aside.”

“His mental acuity,” co-host Eugene Daniels interjected.

“Yeah, no,” Conway replied. “Everything is –– he’s a narcissist. He’s the most profoundly narcissistic individual we’ve ever seen in American politics. It’s all me, me, me, me, me, there is no other to him. The government belongs to him, he talks about his generals. It was always going to be his Justice Department and he was always going to view the Justice Department and the attorney general and everybody who works for the attorney general to the lowest US assistant, US attorney in the smallest district in the country.”

“And let me just say, I mean, it’s working for all these people who want these nice jobs, right, that they’re not qualified for, like Alina Habba and the guy in the Northern District of New York,” he added.

“But you know, Trump said something before the break in his incoherent way that, actually, the people who work for him now should remember,” he pointed out. “He [Trump] said that the people who work for Obama, they’re not protected by the immunity decision. Well, all you people who are getting those jobs right now working for Donald Trump, whether you be the lowliest ICE agent or Stephen Miller himself? You better watch it because you don’t have immunity.”

That earned him a “Wow!” from Jonathan Capehart.

Raw Story: DOJ scrambling away from Stephen Miller’s comments on mass immigrant arrests: report

Department of Justice attorneys are attempting to put some distance between themselves and demands from Donald Trump’s White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller for ICE agents to come up with 3,000 immigrant arrests per day.

In May, Miller told Fox News personality Sean Hannity, “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are looking to set a goal of a minimum of 3,000 arrests for ICE every day and President Trump is going to keep pushing to get that number up higher each and every day,”

According to a report from Politico’s Kyle Cheney and Josh Gerstein, DOJ attorney Yaakov Roth was put on the spot over that number and told a judge the number came from “anonymous reports in the newspapers.”

The report notes that there is a growing “gulf” between what the White House wants and what DOJ can defend before skeptical judges who have serious questions about the sweeps that have all the appearances of racial profiling.

Politico is reporting, “The existence of the target has created particular complications in the case challenging the immigration sweeps in Los Angeles. The administration is fighting an order that a federal judge issued last month prohibiting ICE from conducting ‘roving’ immigration arrests based on broad criteria such as presence at a home improvement store or car wash.”

The report notes that, on Monday, Roth battled with judges but did concede, “… that such a quota, if it existed, could support claims that some arrests did not meet the legal standard.”

“In this instance, the chasm may be undermining the DOJ’s already strained credibility with judges,” Politico is reporting.

Raw Story: Bullying misstep threatens to leave Trump presidency ‘dead in the water’: WSJ

Instead of letting the Republican Party’s Senate leadership wheel and deal with the megabill budget hold-outs, Donald Trump inserted himself — and now has been called out by the editorial board of the conservative Wall Street Journal for his bullying which, it wrote, could put his presidency at risk.

In a late Sunday afternoon editorial, the editors wrote that the president’s attacks on Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) are not helping and, in fact, are hampering the prospects of getting a deal done.

On top of that, they note, driving Tillis to announce he won’t run for re-election could lead to a lost GOP seat in purple North Carolina — and with it the GOP’s slim hold on the Senate.

Trump is an increasingly senile oaf who just doesn’t know when to zip it. Expect a lot more of this as he slowly slithers into memory-care.

Raw Story: ‘Warning lights are starting to flash’ as Trump economy takes hold: MSNBC report

Due to a combination of factors, the economy under Donald Trump is heading in the wrong direction which should raise alarms.

That is the opinion of investment analyst and MSNBC contributor Steve Ratner who appeared on “Morning Joe” on Thursday morning with host Jonathan Lemire.

With his wall of charts, Ratner explained, “So the Federal Reserve put out some numbers last week on its expectations for the economy that I think, relative to everything I just talked about are worth noting. It took down GDP growth for this year from 1.7 to 1.4. This happens to match a World Bank number that came out a couple of weeks ago –– two very impartial forecasters.”

“I would note that in 2024, the economy grew 2.8 percent. So in year one of Trump, we are going to grow, at least on track to grow exactly half of what we grew in the last year of Biden,” he observed before pointing out unemployment is likely to hit 4.5 percent “by the end of the year.”

Adding, “The Fed is now more a little more concerned about the economy than they were three months ago,” coupled with a refusal to drop interest rates, he went on to state, “I don’t want to necessarily pronounce stagflation, but when you’re moving towards slower growth, more unemployment and somewhat higher interest rates, that is not the direction you want to be moving in.”

Raw Story: Trump delivered a ‘slap in the face to Stephen Miller’ with pivot: MSNBC analyst

A decision by Donald Trump to urge ICE agents to change where they snatch up unsuspecting immigrants was a direct rebuke to White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller.

That is the opinion of former Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin as she spoke to MSNBC’s Ali Velshi on Sunday morning.

Attributing the change of heart by the Trump administration to “donor pressure,” Rubin explained, “All of the ag interests and the hotel owners and Trump himself who rely on undocumented immigrants, don’t like this.”

“You know, who could have predicted that this would unravel the economy?” she asked sarcastically. “Who could have predicted that this would be disruptive to American society and the economy? Well, all of us have.”

“And this is really a slap in the face to Stephen Miller and those people who thought that somehow [they were] going to deport 11 million people, it is never going to happen,” she predicted.

Stephen Miller is an ass. Nobody will be shedding any tears for him if his feathers are ruffled.
