Charlotte Observer: Treasury Investigates Antifa Funding in New Crackdown

The Trump Administration is ramping up investigations into the funding and organization of groups like Antifa, labeled as domestic extremists. President Donald Trump held a roundtable with cabinet members and experts to discuss strategies for addressing such organizations. White House officials have hinted at new measures aimed at identifying their networks and financial backers.

Without providing evidence, Seamus Bruner of the Government Accountability Institute alleged that left-wing groups have funded violent protests.

Bruner said, “It’s not just Antifa, but there is a whole ecosystem of radical, professional protesting organizations.” He added, “Such organizations also provide left-wing extremists with PR services, marketing, and in some cases additional boots on the ground.”

Bruner proposed using RICO statutes and reviewing tax-exempt statuses to target organizations suspected of funding criminal protest activities, urging federal authorities to act swiftly for accountability.

Bruner stated, “They can absolutely cancel any future grants if they deem that the charitable purposes are less than charitable.” Bruner added, “We found a network of NGOs … And, it’s also big left-wing funders — some of them are not citizens of this country.”

Tune in next week when King Donald and his sycophants try to get Whimsy under control!

Time: A Eulogy For the White House’s East Wing

First came the gilding of the Oval Office. Then came the flagpoles, both massive. Then the stone tile and food-court umbrellas over the Rose Garden. And then gold accents joined the Cabinet Room. And the art got swapped out, even putting Barack Obama and George W. Bush out of public view. The tile in the Lincoln Bedroom’s bathroom got exchanged for marble. The same happened with the breezeway leading into the Rose Garden. And the West Colonnade got its own upgrade, complete with an insult for former President Joe Biden.

And now come the bulldozers, the water cannons, and the construction walls to block views of the massive demolition of the White House’s East Wing, the latest manifestation of President Donald Trump’s effort to leave his mark on one of America’s most iconic buildings. By the weekend, the East Wing will be rubble, the latest D.C. institution to be smashed by Trumpism.

Atlanta Black Star News: ‘Lock Him Up!’: Trump’s Lie Backfires After Video Surfaces of Promise He’s Now Calling ‘Manufactured Outrage’ — and Photos Instantly Call His Bluff

President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to rewrite history blew up on him this week. Now he’s facing mounting backlash and accusations of lying after new footage surfaced showing him promising one thing and reality revealing another.

A viral clip posted to X shows Trump boasting in July that construction of the 90,000-square-foot, $250 million ballroom “won’t interfere with the current building.” But in a split-screen cut, demolition crews can be seen ripping through the East Wing — sending clouds of dust into the air and Trump’s credibility with it.

“Here’s a clip of Trump lying & promising he would not damage the WH for his f***ing ballroom followed with video of his construction crew demolishing the East Wing today. Could you imagine the outrage if Biden or Obama did this? I’m so pissed. That’s our White House!” one furious user posted, garnering thousands of views.

Sacramento Bee: DHS Announces $6B In Fines for Noncitizens

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Trump administration have imposed roughly 21,500 fines totaling $6.1 billion on noncitizens who have ignored removal orders. Critics argued that such policies place undue pressure on individuals to leave the country and use misleading incentives that complicate compliance. Meanwhile, DHS and the Treasury Department are actively enforcing the collections while also offering voluntary-departure programs.

DHS rules allow daily fines and limit appeals if noncitizens don’t respond within 15 days. Collections have included tax reporting, private agencies, and refund garnishments.

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official stated, “It’s an easy choice: Leave voluntarily and receive a $1,000 check, or stay and wait till you are fined $1,000 a day, arrested, and deported without a possibility to return legally.”

The Dispatch: No, President Trump’s Tariffs Haven’t Generated $8 Trillion in Revenue

On Labor Day, a post on the White House’s official X account lauded President Donald Trump for having generated $8 trillion in revenue for the federal government and celebrated his “protectionist trade policies” for creating $8 trillion in U.S. investment. The text of the post highlights the trade policies, while an accompanying graphic touts the tariff revenue.

Trump also claimed Tuesday that the U.S. has “taken in almost $17 trillion in investment … most of it has come in because of tariffs.”

None of the claims is accurate.

A Bipartisan Policy Center analysis of the Treasury Department’s daily statements shows that the federal government has taken in $158.4 billion in tariff revenue since January 21, the day after Trump’s inauguration. On August 22, the Congressional Budget Office updated past projections and now estimates that Trump’s tariffs on China, Mexico, and several other countries will reduce deficits by $4 trillion—over the next decade. Each year, the United States on average takes in $3 trillion in imported goods, which makes the claim of $8 trillion in tariff revenue just in 2025 nearly impossible.

The White House maintains on its website a list of pledges of investment by various companies and countries, most recently updated on September 2. The list includes private sector projects such as a “$600 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing and workforce training” by Apple, $500 billion by Nvidia to update its U.S. infrastructure, and $200 billion by Micron to boost its U.S. production of memory chips. And it includes pledges by foreign nations such as the United Arab Emirates ($1.4 trillion), Qatar ($1.2 trillion), and Japan ($1 trillion) to invest in the U.S.

Add up those amounts, and you get roughly $7.5 trillion. But there are several reasons not to take these pledges at face value. As Dispatch contributor and Cato Institute vice president Scott Lincicome has written, companies like Apple, Amazon, or the chip manufacturer TMSC often seek to gain favor with a new administration by promising multibillion-dollar investments. These often involve either expansions of projects already in the works or vague pledges that lack concrete time frames.

“Oftentimes companies that are actually pledging new investment will say they’re going to do it based on market conditions,” Lincicome told The Dispatch. “Well, market conditions change, and suddenly what looks like a good investment isn’t a good investment, and it never happens. Or, the timeline is hilariously drawn out, and so it might take 10 years to hit that number.”

Trump’s first term, Lincicome continued, featured a collection of multibillion-dollar pledges from manufacturing giants—ultimately, with mixed successes. “Some of it certainly happened, but a lot of it didn’t, and some of it that did happen actually ended up collapsing. Look at [Magnitude] 7 Metals, this big aluminum company. [Trump trade adviser] Peter Navarro went out there and claimed this was the future of American aluminum, and it’s closed down two years later.”

When asked to clarify, the White House did not offer further explanation for their Labor Day post or for Trump’s remarks.

“President Trump is right: tariffs are bringing in historic revenue for the federal government, revenue that will amount to trillions of dollars in the coming years,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai told The Dispatch in an email. “Tariffs made America rich once before, and tariffs will Make America Wealthy Again.”

Simply bullshit! “The federal government has taken in $158.4 billion in tariff revenue since January 2”, not $8 trillion. Liars!

And they probably haven’t taken into account the changes in spending habits that occur when taxes and prices increase.

Forbes: Trump Says His Tariffs Collected ‘Trillions’ In Revenue—Here’s The Real Figure

  • “Without tariffs, and all of the TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS we have already taken in, our Country would be completely destroyed, and our military power would be instantly obliterated,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
  • Trump claimed earlier this month that “trillions of dollars are being taken in on tariffs” and his levies have “not caused inflation, or any other problems for America, other than massive amounts of CASH pouring into our Treasury’s coffers.”
  • Trump leaves out that tariffs are paid by U.S. companies to import foreign goods, with those costs eventually paid by U.S. consumers.
  • Trump’s latest comments on his tariffs follow a ruling late Friday by the U.S. Court of Appeals, as the court wrote Trump overstepped his authority by issuing his reciprocal tariffs, a power the majority opinion said was “vested exclusively” as a “core Congressional power.”
  • The ruling prohibiting Trump’s tariffs won’t take effect until Oct. 14, allowing the Trump administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The truth: Trump’s tariffs have only “generated about $96 billion in revenue”.

New York Times: ‘Egregious.’ ‘Brazen.’ ‘Lawless. ’How 48 JudgesDescribe Trump’s Actions, In Their Own Words

Many Americans in positions of power, including corporate executives and members of Congress, seem too afraid of President Trump to stand up to his anti-democratic behavior. Federal judges have shown themselves to be exceptions. “Judges from across the ideological spectrum are ruling against administration policies at remarkable rates,” said Adam Bonica, a political scientist at Stanford University.

These rulings have halted Mr. Trump’s vengeful attempts to destroy law firms, forestalled some of his budget cuts and kept him from deporting additional immigrants. Yes, the Supreme Court has often been more deferential to the president. Still, it has let stand many lower-court rulings and has itself constrained Mr. Trump in some cases.

The bipartisan alarm from federal judges offers a roadmap for others to respond to Mr. Trump’s often illegal behavior. His actions deserve to be called out in plain language for what they really are. And people in positions of influence should do what they can to stand up for American values, as many judges have done.

Here, we’ve compiled quotations from judges’ recent rulings and bench comments.

J. Harvie Wilkinson III, Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals

Appointed by Ronald Reagan

On the refusal to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia from El Salvador:

“This is a path of perfect lawlessness, one that courts cannot condone.”

Leonie M. Brinkema, Eastern District of Virginia

Appointed by Bill Clinton

On an ICE official’s inconsistent affidavit:

“This is a terrible, terrible affidavit. If this were before me in a criminal case and you were asking to get a warrant issued on this, I’d throw you out of my chambers.”

James E. Boasberg, District of Columbia District

Appointed by Barack Obama

On a judge’s order blocking deportations:

“In an egregious case of cherry-picking, defendants selectively quote only a fragment of the court’s response here to mischaracterize its position.”
