AFG: Web archivists scrambling to save US public data from deletion

As President Donald Trump’s administration purges public records since storming back to power, experts and volunteers are preserving thousands of web pages and government sites devoted to climate change, health or LGBTQ rights and other issues.

Resources on AIDS prevention and care, weather records, references to ethnic or gender minorities: numerous databases were destroyed or modified after Trump signed an executive order in January declaring diversity, equality and inclusion programs and policies within the federal governmentto be illegal.

More than 3,000 pages from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention site were taken down and more than 1,000 from the Justice Department’s website, Paul Schroeder, president of the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics, told AFP.

Fox News: JB Pritzker rips Trump as ‘authoritarian,’ responds to president calling out his weight

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, D-Ill., a possible 2028 White House candidate, took aim at President Donald Trump on Thursday in a late-night appearance, calling him an “authoritarian” leader and mocking his weight.

Pritzker made the comments during an interview on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Egged on by the anti-Trump late-night host, the governor argued Trump was a major threat to the American people.

“I think everybody understands that, at this point, we’ve got an authoritarian in office. He’s essentially tearing apart the things that really matter to working families across the United States, and nobody’s stopping him,” he told Kimmel.

MSNBC: Trump-appointed judge calls Trump’s Alien Enemies Act invocation ‘unlawful’

President Donald Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act has faced intense preliminary litigation in courts around the country, leading to rulings such as the Supreme Court’s insistence that people potentially subject to the act must receive due process. But a new and significant ruling from a Trump-appointed judge Thursday gets to the heart of the matter, deeming the president’s invocation itself “unlawful.”

But U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. said that Trump’s invocation “exceeds the scope of the statute and, as a result, is unlawful.” The judge said the administration therefore can’t use the act to detain Venezuelans, transfer them within the U.S. or remove them from the country. The ruling applies to a class of plaintiffs in the Southern District of Texas.

Raw Story: ‘Pay for Trump’s golf trips’: Observers call out ‘Orwellian language’ in Republican budget

“The GOP budget has $0 for FEMA’s emergency management funding, yet provides $300M to pay for Trump’s golf trips,” complained Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.). “Extreme weather doesn’t discriminate between red and blue districts. The GOP is choosing Trump’s golf over the safety and security of their constituents.”

Inquirer: Trump moves to tax parcels; some retailers give up on US

As the United States ends a tariff exemption for small parcels on Friday, some retailers have stopped selling to US customers while others are seeking temporary workarounds in the hope the tariff rate may be reduced.

The removal of “de minimis”—duty-free treatment of e-commerce packages worth less than $800—for products originating from China and Hong Kong exposes those goods to tariffs of 145 percent on most Chinese goods following US President Donald Trump’s decision last month. The move upended global trade and triggered retaliation from Beijing.

Euronews: Trump asks Supreme Court to remove legal protections from 350,000 Venezuelans

US President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to strip legal protections from 350,000 Venezuelans as part of his plans to begin mass deportations.

The move comes after a federal judge in San Francisco prolonged their Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which had been due to expire in April.

Trump has no humanity whatsoever, thinks nothing of turning the lives of a third of a million people upside down on a whim.

Inquirer: Nordics hope to attract US researchers alienated by Trump

With US universities facing challenges to their independence and funding, Nordic countries hope their emphasis on academic freedom and strong welfare societies can lure researchers seeking to leave the United States.

“To researchers in the United States: welcome,” Sweden’s Education Minister Johan Pehrson told AFP, reaching out to academics affected by a wave of measures under US President Donald Trump.

“We can offer trust and long-term investments. We’ve got academic freedom. If you are looking for a place to do your work and contribute to solving global challenges, we value your knowledge,” the minister said in a written statement.

“Our aim is to make it easier for talented individuals to come to Sweden,” he added.

Daily Mail: Gretchen Whitmer turns on Trump after Democratic Michigan Governor shocked supporters

Gretchen Whitmer’s newfound friendship with Donald Trump appears to be short lived, as the Michigan Democrat governor slammed the president a day after appearing with him at an event.

The 2028 presidential hopeful was humiliated by Trump in a made-for-TV moment in her home state.

While speaking to Michigan National Guardsmen on Tuesday, the president spotted Whitmer in the crowd and then called her up for a spur-of-the-moment address.

Both that and a bizarre moment where she covered her face with folders and looked embarrassed during a trip to see President Trump have drawn ridicule from liberals.

Speaking to left-leaning Pod Save America Wednesday, she appeared to have finally rediscovered her dislike for Trump when former Barack Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau asked if the U.S. was in a constitutional crisis.

‘We are, I think that no one is above the law. The thought that we’ve got an administration that is just blatantly violating court orders should, I think, scare everybody. This is a very serious moment,’ she said.
