Associated Press: Family of 2-year-old US citizen deported to Honduras drops lawsuit against Trump administration

A federal judge in Louisiana had raised questions about the girl’s deportation, saying the government did not prove it had done so properly.

Lawyers for the girl’s father insisted he wanted the girl to remain with him in the U.S., while ICE said the mother had wanted the girl to be deported with her to Honduras.

In a court filing, lawyers for the father said ICE indicated that it was holding the girl in a bid to induce the father to turn himself in.

ICE holding a two-year-old girl hostage for leverage against her father? Nothing would surprise me.

Independent: Police admit they mistakenly pulled over a college student. But she still faces deportation

When police in Dalton, Georgia pulled over Ximena Arias-Cristobal, officers accused the 19-year-old college student of making an illegal right turn at a red light.

She told officers she didn’t have her international driver’s license on her, according to a police report, and she was taken into custody.

Then she was moved to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center roughly four hours away, and now she faces the possibility of being removed from the country along with her family.

But local police this week admitted the officers made a mistake.

After a review of dash cam footage from the traffic stop on May 5, “it was determined that Ms. Arias-Cristobal’s vehicle appeared similar to the offending vehicle but was not the vehicle that made an improper turn,” according to a statement from the Dalton Police Department.

Police and prosecutors dismissed the charges against her, but Donald Trump’s administration intends to remove her from the United States, where she has lived since she was four years old.

Arias-Cristobal’s parents did not have legal permission to enter the United States from Mexico in 2010 when she was a toddler, and she did not qualify for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which ended the year before her family entered the country, according to family friends.

Reuters: Exclusive: Trump administration moved Venezuelan to Texas for possible deportation despite judge’s order

  • US judge had ordered that the man remain in Pennsylvania
  • Supreme Court ruling halted deportation effort last week
  • Transfer shows Trump’s aggressive deportation tactics

President Donald Trump‘s administration moved a Venezuelan man who had worked in construction in Philadelphia to Texas for possible deportation after a federal judge had issued an order blocking his removal from Pennsylvania or the United States, according to court records.

A plane transporting the man took off on April 15 from an airport in the state capital Harrisburg about a half hour after U.S. District Judge Stephanie Haines issued an order temporarily blocking the administration from moving him out of her western Pennsylvania judicial district or the country, Justice Department lawyer Laura Irwin told an April 17 hearing, conducted as a conference call.

Texas Tribune: Texas law students warn that bill to quash “terrorist activity” in universities could trample free speech rights

Law school students and civil rights organizations warned senators on Wednesday that a measure that would require universities to report students accused of supporting terrorist activities to federal authorities could turn their schools into immigration enforcement agencies.

Everyone who testified before the committee Wednesday was in opposition to the bill. Many said the bill was too vague and could be used to either punish or discourage people from expressing their political views because doing so could be conflated as support for a terrorist organization. Others said it would open the door for universities to monitor and surveil visa-holding students. Some said universities might even have an incentive to do so because the bill also puts their funding at risk.

ICE Deletes Post About Stopping ‘Illegal Ideas’ From Crossing Border

Contrary to their claims, there was no mistake. “Intellectual property” just doesn’t fit the context. The problem for ICE, our newly self-appointed thought police, is the enormous public backlash coming back at them.
