As secretary of the Air Force, I was frustrated by Boeing’s failure to deliver the new Air Force One aircraft on time.
I can understand that President Trump would like a new aircraft, painted as he desires and available for use during his term in office. I cannot understand his willingness to accept the “gift” of a luxuriously appointed, used Boeing 747 from Qatar.
It is wrong to accept this gift from any perspective.

Daily Mail: Donald Trump complains Air Force One ‘much smaller and less impressive’ than Middle East planes
‘The plane that you are on right now is almost 40 years old,’ Trump remarked, referring to Air Force One and noting that the Boeing planes purchased by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar were ‘brand new 747s.’
‘You see ours next to it. This is like a totally different plane. It’s much smaller and less impressive, as impressive as it is,’ Trump said. ‘We are the United States of America I believe we should have the most impressive plane.’

The 747-8 offered by the Qataris is considered more fuel efficient and quiet but it is most notable for it’s luxurious interior, designed by famed French design firm Alberto Pinto Cabinet.
King Donald appears to be suffering an acute case of Boeing envy.

Alternet: ‘A way for Mar-A-Lago to get paid’: Don Jr.’s role in ‘anti-woke’ firm ‘raises serious questions’
In November 2024, Donald Trump Jr. became a partner in a Palm Beach, Florida-based investment firm startup named 1789 Capital. And its stated goal was to invest in “anti-woke” businesses.
The company has grown since then. And according to Business Insider reporter Bethany McLean, 1789 is raising questions about the possibility of President Donald Trump’s family “improperly making money by funneling government business to the companies it invests in.”
In an article published on May 12, McLean reports, “It’s not just legal experts who have concerns about the money flowing to Don Jr. One veteran Wall Street investor, who has personally reviewed 1789’s deals, says they enable the president’s son to profit from the (Trump) Administration’s actions — even if no contractors are given preferential treatment.”
Business Insider: The same badge-scan strategy used in Tesla layoffs has hit federal workers
Employees at the Department of Health and Human Services showed up to their offices on Tuesday to learn their fate: If their badges worked, they still had a job. If they didn’t, they had to clean out their desks.
“I was crying the entire drive to work today,” an HHS employee told Business Insider as they waited in line.
The employee said they saw a man walk past, wheeling out his personal belongings on a desk chair after being terminated.
“I’ve seen three people who went in, and then came back out and left with tears in their eyes,” said the employee, who was eventually let into the building. “People behind me are sniffling.”
