Denmark has accused President Donald Trump and his administration of carrying out a secret influence campaign in Greenland to promote secession from Denmark to the U.S.
The country’s foreign minister summoned the top U.S. diplomat to Copenhagen after Denmark’s main national broadcaster reported that at least three Americans with ties to Trump had been identified in connection with the covert operation.
State broadcaster DR said it knows the names of the operatives but decided not to reveal them. It also said its information on Trump’s covert campaign came from eight sources and that Danish intelligence services had uncovered the “influence operations” aimed at causing a rift between Denmark and its territory.
The Trump administration’s response? A White House official would not confirm the operation but did say, “We think the Danes need to calm down,” according to the BBC.
The State Department did confirm in a statement that Deputy Chief of Mission in Copenhagen Mark Stroh had met with Danish officials, but said, in terms of the alleged influence campaign, it would not comment “on the actions of private U.S. citizens in Greenland.”
“The U.S. government does not control or direct the actions of private citizens,” it said.
State Department Officials said Stroh had “a productive conversation and reaffirmed the strong ties among the Government of Greenland, the United States, and Denmark,” NPR reported.
The statement went on to say the U.S. relationship with Denmark and NATO is a valuable one and that Trump and his top officials have all said they respect “the right of the people of Greenland to determine their own future.”
“We continue to foster engagement and cooperation with Denmark and Greenland to support increased security and prosperity for our nations,” it said.
Trump has said repeatedly he wants Greenland and has not ruled out military action to take control of the semiautonomous, mineral-rich Arctic Island.
Denmark and Greenland have rebuffed Trump’s stated goals and said the island is not for sale. They also condemned reports of U.S. intelligence gathering operations there, according to NPR.
The report alleged that one of those involved in the covert campaign created a list of U.S.-friendly Greenlanders and the names of anti-Trumpers. They also gathered information from locals that could be used against Denmark by American media.
The report also found two other people with ties to Trump tried to develop contacts with politicians and businesses.
Social media users had a lot to say about the operation, “Trump and the Republican Party are Russian assets and traitors to this country,” Terri Gorler stated on Threads.
Another Threads user blamed Republicans for going along with Trump’s scheming.
“Dear Republicans, Really? This is what the current administration is doing (and doing badly)? They are attempting to infiltrate Greenland’s society to convince people to ‘sell’ Greenland to the U.S., and you’re okay with that? How does this not violate international law and our Constitution? Sincerely, A Pissed Off American.”
“So not shocked,” Colleen Lane chimed in.
This Threads user didn’t hold back and used a phrase Trump repeatedly used on the campaign trail in 2016 against his opponent, Hillary Clinton, over emails she had stored insecurely.
“Lock them the f#ck up.”

Daily Express: US spies ‘collected names of Greenlanders opposed to Donald Trump’
At least three Americans with connections to Trump have reportedly been carrying out covert influence operations in the territory
At least three Americans with connections to President Donald Trump have reportedly been carrying out covert influence operations in Greenland, prompting Denmark to summon a top US diplomat to the country.
Danish public broadcaster DR reported on Wednesday that unnamed government and security sources in Greenland and the U.S. believe that at least three people with ties to Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in the territory.
It comes after Trump’s repeated threats to annex the territory via military force.
Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO ally of the U.S., strongly rejects Trump’s proposal to take over the strategically located, mineral-rich Arctic island, making clear that the land is not for sale.
At least eight sources within Greenland’s government and security apparatus believe that a handful of Americans with ties to Trump are conducting covert intelligence operations, DR reported.
One of those people allegedly compiled a list of U.S.-friendly Greenlanders, collected names of people opposed to Trump and got locals to point out cases that could be used to cast Denmark in a negative light in in U.S. media. Two others have tried to nurture contacts with politicians, businesspeople and locals, DR reported.
An influence operation is an organized effort to shape how people in a society think in order to achieve certain political, military or other objectives.
The local sources told DR about the alleged American operation believe that the U.S. is attempting to weaken relations between Denmark and Greenland.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said “any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom will of course be unacceptable.”
“We are aware that foreign actors continue to show an interest in Greenland and its position in the Kingdom of Denmark,” Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said in a statement. “It is therefore not surprising if we experience outside attempts to influence the future of the Kingdom in the time ahead.”
“In that light, I have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the U.S. chargé d’affaires for a meeting at the Ministry,” he added.
Cooperation between the governments of Denmark and Greenland “is close and based on mutual trust,” he added.

Buzz Feed: Gavin Newsom Revealed What Foreign Leaders Are Saying Behind Trump’s Back
“Don’t tell Trump.”
“I’ve had the privilege of meeting a lot of foreign leaders. They’re laughing behind his back,” he said at Politico’s California summit. “Do not conflate what I just said with the meeting I had with the Denmark delegation [California and Denmark just made a comprehensive agreement on climate and tech]. I’ve had dozens and dozens, ambassadors [who] met with him. They’re laughing behind his back. He’s being played everywhere. It’s an embarrassment.”

Channel News Asia: Why countries like China, Canada and the UK have issued new warnings about US travel
China:
On Wednesday, China warned tourists to “fully assess the risks” before travelling to the US, after Beijing raised tariffs on American imports in retaliation for similar duties imposed by Trump.
“Due to the deterioration in China-US trade relations and the domestic security situation in the United States, (we) advise Chinese tourists to fully assess the risks before travelling to the US,” Beijing’s culture and tourism ministry said in a statement.
UK:
In March, the UK revised its advice for citizens travelling to the US to include a warning that anyone found breaking its entry rules could face arrest or detention.
The current British travel advice for the US, published online by Britain’s foreign office and most recently updated on Mar 14, states: “You should comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry. The authorities in the US set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules.”
At the beginning of February, the guidance had only stated: “The authorities in the US set and enforce entry rules.”
The foreign office declined to comment on the reason for the revision or confirm when exactly it took place. It said its travel advice was designed to help people make decisions and that the advice was constantly kept under review.
Earlier in the month, in response to reports that a woman had been detained in the US for more than 10 days over a possible breach of her visa conditions, the foreign office confirmed that it was providing support to a British national detained in the US.
The woman has since returned to Britain.
Germany:
Similarly, in March, Germany updated its US travel advisory to emphasise that a visa or entry waiver does not guarantee entry after several Germans were detained while entering the country.
Germany’s foreign ministry updated its travel advice website for the US on Mar 11 to clarify that neither approval through the US Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA, system nor a US visa entitles entry in every case.
“The final decision on whether a person can enter the US lies with the US border authorities,” said a German foreign ministry spokesperson, who emphasised that the change did not constitute a travel warning.
Canada:
The Canadian government updated its US travel advisory on its website in March to say that those who plan to visit the US for more than 30 days “must be registered with the United States government”, NPR reported.
Those who did not do so could face “penalties fines, and misdemeanour prosecution”, the Canadian government said.
In early April, it updated its advisory again, adding a new paragraph about scrutiny at points of entry into the US, Canadian public broadcaster CBC reported.
This was done “quietly”, CBC said.
Part of the new paragraph reads: “Expect scrutiny at ports of entry, including of electronic devices. Comply and be forthcoming in all interactions with border authorities. If you are denied entry, you could be detained while awaiting deportation.”
CBC noted that US border agents had long had the power to ask to search travellers’ belongings and demand access to their electronic devices.
However, it reported that security had been stepped up at the US-Canada border, citing an immigration lawyer.
“There’s been much more heightened security and heightened investigations at the border,” the lawyer told the broadcaster.
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany:
In March, several European countries including Denmark, Finland, France and Germany suggested that transgender, non-binary and intersex people may face difficulties when trying to enter the US.
The Danish foreign ministry changed its US travel advisory to say that transgender people should contact the US embassy in the Nordic country before travelling to the United States.
“When applying for an ESTA or visa to the United States, there are two gender designations to choose from: Male or female,” the travel advisory stated on Mar 21.
“If you have the gender designation X in your passport, or you have changed your gender, it is recommended that you contact the US embassy prior to travel for guidance on how to proceed,” the ministry added.
The “X” gender marker is preferred by many non-binary people, who do not identify as strictly male or female.
While the travel advisory did not explicitly mention the Trump administration, it came only weeks after Trump signed an executive order calling for the US federal government to define sex as only male or female and for that to be reflected on official documents, such as passports, and in policies.
The US State Department has stopped issuing travel documents with the X gender marker.
The department also stopped allowing people to change the gender listed on their passports or get new ones that reflect their gender rather than their sex assigned at birth.
Finland also advised prospective US travellers on its foreign ministry homepage that if their “current gender as recorded in their passport differs from the gender they were assigned at birth, US authorities may deny (them) entry”.
“It is recommended that you check with US authorities in advance for entry requirements,” the ministry said.
France, meanwhile, modified its official advice to its nationals who are travelling to the United States, warning they must now state their gender assigned at birth in visa or ESTA applications.
In advice similar to that issued by Denmark, Germany told travellers who have the X gender entry in their passport or whose current gender entry differs from their gender entry at birth to contact a US diplomatic mission in Germany before they enter the country.
This is so that they can “find out the applicable entry requirements” for the US, the German foreign ministry said.

Charlotte Observer: Major Shift: Pentagon to Transfer Greenland Oversight
The Pentagon reportedly plans to transfer oversight of Greenland from European Command to U.S. Northern Command to strengthen American strategic interests in the Arctic.
In other words, our presumptuous King Donald is going to start pretending that Greenland is within his realm.
Just remember to bring your own lunch — there’s not a soul in Nuuk who wants to break bread with you.
2 Paragraphs: U.S. Congressmen Appear at Conference Featuring Far-Right Star Who Says “Europe Was Always An Entirely White Continent”
Right-wing Dutch social media influencer Eva Vlaardingerbroek, who delivered the controversial speech ‘The Great Replacement Is Not a Theory—It’s Reality’ at the 2024 CPAC Hungary, is back for the 2025 conference.
(Note: YouTube removed the video of her 2024 speech for violating hate speech guidelines; it went viral on X.)
The 28-year-old blonde with blue eyes said at the recent Remigration Summit 26: “Europe was always an entirely white continent. It is not unethical to want that Europe stays European.”
[Remigration is a far-right European plan to expel minorities and immigrants from Western nations, returning them to their countries of origin. Wikipedia defines the term as “a far-right European concept of ethnic cleansing via the mass deportation or promoted voluntary return of non-white immigrants and their descendants, usually including those born in Europe, to their place of racial ancestry, often with no regard for their citizenship or legal status.”]
This week WIRED and other outlets reported that the Trump administration is considering adding a dedicated “Remigration” office within the State Department.

Alternet: Alarm raised over Trump admin corruption following Trump media move
Monday reporting from the Financial Times that U.S. President Donald Trump’s family media company “plans to raise $3 billion to buy cryptocurrencies” sparked a fresh wave of alarm over his administration’s policies and potential corruption.
After winning a second term last year, the Republican president transferred his stake in Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG)—which is behind the Truth Social platform—to a revocable trust overseen by his son Donald Trump Jr.
Citing six unnamed sources, FT reported that TMTG “aims to raise $2 billion in fresh equity and another $1 billion via a convertible bond,” and “also plans to launch an exchange-traded fund focused on cryptocurrency.”
KRON San Francisco: Father of 4 detained by ICE at citizenship interview after living in US for 12 years
A 31-year-old Danish national who was going through the naturalization process after living in the U.S. for more than 10 years was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials during a routine appointment to finalize his citizenship, according to multiple media reports.
Kasper Eriksen, a green card holder with no criminal record, works as a welder in Sturgis, Mississippi, where he lives with his wife and four children. On April 15, he was unexpectedly taken into custody and later transferred to the LaSalle Detention Center in Louisiana, Newsweek reported.
The 31-year-old, according to his wife, Savannah Hobart Eriksen, first moved to the U.S. as an exchange student in 2009 and returned to Denmark.
He returned to the U.S. legally in 2013 after he and his wife married and he began the legal process of becoming an American citizen. In September 2024, according to the outlet, the Eriksens received word that his application was under review, and, on March 7, an interview for his naturalization application was scheduled.
ICE officials reportedly detained the 31-year-old for failing to file a single document, due in 2015, around the same time the couple lost their first child in a stillbirth. While grieving their loss, they forgot to file Form I-751, the Mississippi Free Press reported.
If he needed to file an I-751 in 2015, then he received only a 2-year green card “with conditions” in 2013. I-751 is the “Removal of Conditions” filing.
So he’s been wandering around the U.S. for the last 9-10 years with an expired Green Card? It never occurred to him that something was amiss?
If he had filed everything on time and followed up as appropriate, he should have been a citizen by 2019 — about 6 years ago.
There must be more to this story. Given the current regime in Washington and its focus on deportation counts, that might not matter much. 🙁
CBS News: RFK Jr. releases report on childhood chronic disease. Here’s what to know.
The White House’s “Make America Healthy Again” or “MAHA” commission, led by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has published its first report on what it says are four leading drivers of childhood chronic disease.
“The report is the product of a consensual process, and it represents a collaborative effort of all the agencies and the White House. And it represents a consensus that is probably the strongest and most radical consensus by a government agency in history about the state of America’s health,” Kennedy told reporters in a call ahead of its release.
Who’s going to take advice on our children’s health from a moron who takes his grandchildren swimming in a sewage-contaminated creek where swimming is banned for public health reasons? A moron who’s had brain worms likely because he eats bush meat and road kill?
