The Hill: Opinion: Wake up, MAGA: Trump’s disapproval rating is a real problem

In recent months more than one friend has said to me “Don’t you think Trump is doing great?” On each occasion my friend seemed perplexed when I say “No, he is not doing great.”

When I get into the reasons — management style, rhetoric, policies and the constant self massaging of an outsized and out of control ego — my friends are further perplexed. Talk about Trump’s numbers in the polls invariably leads to a counterpunch that the polls are always wrong or that a specific poll is rigged to make Trump look bad.

So for all my MAGA friends who think things are going great, let’s put some facts on the record. This is not about one poll from an organization that leans left. This is about multiple polls from multiple respected outlets.

This is undoubtedly where American public opinion is, and MAGA and the White House needs to accept it and change accordingly. Failure to do so will effectively end the Trump administration with Democratic majorities in the Congress issuing subpoenas on a daily basis.

The current state of the Democratic Party is the best thing Republicans have going for us as we approach the 2026 midterm election. High-ranking elected Democratic officials seem incapable of coherently and concisely explaining what their party stands for. Vehement opposition to everything Trump says or does is not a winning message.

In a normal political environment, Republicans would be staring at a disastrous showing. Lucky for them 2026, as of now, does not look like it is going to be a normal political environment. I would caution my fellow Republicans that placing our electoral destiny in the hands of our opponents and hoping they continue to screw up is not a strategy with which any of us should be comfortable.

The president’s overall approval in the polls is consistently underwater, meaning his disapproval exceeds his approval. That would not be terribly concerning until you dig into the specifics as to why that is.

Many polls ask if respondents approve or disapprove on the economy, inflation, tariffs, immigration, deportations, crime control, national guard in cities. On all of those specific policy issues Trump is underwater, on most questions significantly, meaning a majority disapprove.

I am not talking about one poll here where the pro and anti-Trump split is close. The polls are close to unanimous on the lack of popularity of Trump administration policies.

Outside of border control, for which Trump deserves great credit and liberals still do not understand was a major factor in their 2024 defeat, Trump’s actions and policies do not receive majority support. In fact, they are not close to earning majority support.

In the September Washington Post poll, 70 percent of respondents said tariffs are increasing the prices they pay for basic necessities. Seventy percent! Also in that same poll, by a margin of 59 percent to 40 percent, respondents disapprove of how Trump is handling the economy. That 70 percent is referring to the tariffs which are the basis of the Trump administration’s economic plan for America.

Hello: Is anyone in the White House awake?

Part of Trump’s problem is that when he talks about the economy, he talks about how tariffs will be great for American consumers. What he sees as positive voters overwhelmingly see as a negative. Trump’s overall lack of attention to the economy, inflation and consumer sentiment is a huge negative for the administration.

The administration’s political success depends a lot more on the price of coffee and ground beef than it does on Jimmy Kimmel’s latest stupid comment. The Trump administration requires a significant mid-course correction.

The president’s predisposition is to take things to the extreme. When he does that with his rhetoric, Americans can laugh it off. When he does that with policy it is more difficult to write it off.

President Trump sees himself as an agent of change who wants to change America into his likeness. Americans are not buying the president’s vision of what he wants the future to have in store for them.

Constitutional conservatives are sounding alarm bells about the administration’s effort to suppress criticism. The White House and its MAGA supporters need to cut back on their goals, and especially their tactics, and soon.

As President Reagan used to say “The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and ally, not a 20 percent traitor.”

Trump needs to quickly recalibrate his desires down from 100 percent to 80 percent. If he fails to do so, MAGA will fade into political history alongside the Square Deal, the Fair Deal, the New Frontier and a Thousand Points of Light, none of which left America with anything resembling an identifiable political constituency.

Inquisitr: Conservative Rick Wilson Warns MAGA Loyalists: Trump ‘Will Be Dead Sooner Than You Imagine’

Rick Wilson issues a grim warning to Trump’s loyalists about retribution.

Rick Wilson has never been one to hold back, but his latest Substack column went even further than usual. The longtime Republican strategist and outspoken Trump critic warned the former president’s most loyal followers that their leader will not be around forever, and that those who have helped him undermine democratic norms should prepare for consequences.

The column dropped the day before Donald Trump’s scheduled “routine yearly check-up” at Walter Reed Hospital, just five months after his last visit, fueling speculation about his health. Wilson did not mince words, tying the timing to his grim prediction. “You will not reign forever,” he wrote. “Your Dear Leader will be dead sooner than you imagine, given his failing health and corroded mind.”

Wilson’s warning was not just about Trump’s mortality, but about what he called the “reckoning” awaiting his inner circle. He accused Trump’s allies, from top officials to rank and file enforcers, of enabling what he described as an assault on American liberty. “The lawful power of the people will be used to deliver decisive, agonizing consequences,” he wrote. “Legal, political, economic, and social punishments are the only warning that will work.”

In the piece, Wilson also referenced Trump adviser Stephen Miller, calling him part of an effort to inflame public tensions to justify authoritarian crackdowns. He accused the administration of trying to provoke chaos so that Trump could invoke the Insurrection Act. “Donald Trump and his claque of pissant authoritarians have switched from wanna be to gonna be,” Wilson warned, adding that they were “itching to turn the United States military into their personal palace guard.”

The post also veered into disturbing imagery, with Wilson writing that Trump loyalists “can live their remaining days in an 8×8 cell or take a blindfold, a cigarette, and a wall.” He later framed his language as about accountability, not violence, but the line sparked outrage among Trump supporters and conservative media figures, who accused him of calling for political persecution.

Still, Wilson’s followers saw the essay as a blunt reality check for a movement that has grown used to acting with impunity. He argued that Trump’s cult of personality has shielded enablers from responsibility, but that eventually, when Trump’s influence fades, justice will catch up. “Those who betrayed this nation in the service of Trump,” he wrote, “will be tried and handed punishments so severe that generations to come will remember that America is, by its very DNA, engineered to destroy tyranny.”

Wilson’s rhetoric has long been divisive, but his prediction comes as Trump’s physical and political stamina face intense scrutiny. Between reports of repeated medical visits and observations about cognitive lapses, speculation about the former president’s health continues to swirl. For Wilson, that is part of his point, the “Dear Leader,” as he calls Trump, is not immortal, and when he is gone, his allies will not have his shadow to hide behind.

Whether seen as prophetic or provocative, Wilson’s words landed with force. His message to the MAGA faithful was unmistakable: Trump’s time will eventually end, and when it does, those who followed him blindly will face the consequences.

Raw Story: Trump asks MAGA influencers to serve up names for prosecution

President Donald Trump on Wednesday told MAGA influencers to turn over names of people they’re investigating to FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam [Bimbo #3] Bondi for prosecution.

Trump’s comments happened during a roundtable discussion at the White House about Antifa. Several cabinet members attended the meeting, including Patel, Bondi, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and White House senior advisor Stephen Miller.

In one instance, MAGA influencer Nick Sortor told Trump that he saved a burning American flag while reporting on the streets of Portland, Oregon. Trump told him to give [Bimbo #3] Bondi the name of the individual who was burning it, so “we can start prosecutions.”

Trump told another MAGA influencer named Seamus Bruner, who claimed to have discovered at least $100 million in donations to Antifa from nongovernmental organizations, to “give ’em to Kash or [Bimbo #3] Pam” for prosecution.

Daily Beast: MAGA Demanded ‘Holy Hell Fire’ Before Judge’s Home Exploded

A judge who had outraged the Trump administration received an onslaught of violent threats before an explosion tore through her home.

South Carolina Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein was walking her dogs on the beach when her $1.1 million Edisto Beach home went up in flames Saturday. The fire, now under investigation by authorities, left three people severely injured—including Goodstein’s son and her husband, former Democratic state lawmaker Arnold Goodstein.

Before the explosion Goodstein, 69, had come under fire from the Trump administration because she issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Department of Justice from accessing voter registration data held by the South Carolina Election Commission.

On Sept. 5, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, a Trump appointee, posted on X that the DOJ “would not stand” for Goodstein’s ruling.

“This [DOJ’s] Civil Rights will not stand for a state court judge’s hasty nullification of our federal voting laws,” Dhillon wrote. “I will allow nothing to stand in the way of our mandate to maintain clean voter rolls.”

What followed was a barrage of threatening replies, some calling for Goodstein’s disbarment, others suggesting imprisonment—or worse.

“Thank you. I’m so sick of these activist ‘judges’ thinking they run the country. Isn’t there something that can be done about them?” wrote one X user with more than 6,000 followers.

Another user with over 11,000 followers replied: “Rain Holy hell fire onto these judges who interfere with the Executive branch.”

“Diane S. Goodstein, may all your evil wishes and evil deeds directed towards Trump and the MAGA boomerang back and stick to you and yours a thousandfold. Shmsm. Amen,” another wrote.

According to local outlet FITSNews, Goodstein had reportedly been receiving death threats for several weeks before the fire.

The incident comes as Trump officials continue to lean on public intimidation tactics to pressure judges who rule against the administration. Trump himself has referred to members of the judiciary as “USA hating” and “monsters.”

On Saturday, the same day as the blaze, White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted on X that “left-wing terrorism” is being “shielded by far-left Democrat judges,” in a message viewed more than 6.8 million times.

“There is a large and growing movement of leftwing terrorism in this country. It is well organized and funded. And it is shielded by far-left Democrat judges, prosecutors and attorneys general,” Miller wrote.

“The only remedy is to use legitimate state power to dismantle terrorism and terror networks.”

Democratic congressman and attorney Daniel Goldman, who served as lead counsel during Trump’s first impeachment, tagged Miller in a post containing footage of the fire on Sunday.

Stephen Miller and MAGA-world have been doxxing and threatening judges who rule against Trump, including Judge Goodstein,” Goldman wrote.

Miller fired back, calling Goldman “vile.”

“While the Trump Administration has launched the first-ever government-wide effort to combat and prosecute illegal doxing, sinister threats and political violence you continue to push despicable lies, demented smears, malicious defamation and foment unrest,” Miller replied.

While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, the threats facing members of the judiciary are increasingly coming into public view. Since Trump returned to office in January, a number of judges have begun speaking out about the harassment and intimidation they’ve faced.

From October 2024 through September 2, more than 500 threats were logged against federal judges—an increase from the previous year—according to U.S. Marshals Service data.

Earlier this year, the chief federal judge for Rhode Island told NPR his court received 400 “vile, threatening voicemails,” including half a dozen “credible” death threats, after he issued a ruling that blocked President Trump’s freeze on federal aid.

Even members from the highest court have weighed in. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts voiced his own concerns at the American Law Institute’s annual meeting in 2023. “A judicial system cannot and should not live in fear. The rule of law depends on judges being able to do their jobs without intimidation or harm,” he said.

Daily Beast: Stephen Miller’s Own Cousin Disowned Him in Wrenching Post

Stephen Miller’s own cousin has disowned him for becoming “the face of evil” as the architect of the Trump administration’s hardline immigration crackdown.

Alisa Kasmer penned a lengthy Facebook post publicly severing her ties to the top Trump aide in July, just as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were carrying out hotly contested raids in Los Angeles, where she lives. Her post made fresh rounds on social media over the weekend.

Kasmer, who described herself as Miller’s cousin on his dad’s side, recalled growing up with and babysitting an “awkward, funny, needy middle child who loved to chase attention” but was “always the sweetest with the littlest family members.” She described him as “young, conservative, maybe misguided, but lovable and harmless.”

Images that accompanied the emotional post showed Kasmer and Miller going from young children donning turtlenecks and overalls to young adults dressed up in dresses and suits.

“I am living with the deep pain of watching someone I once loved become the face of evil,” Kasmer wrote. “I grieve what you’ve become, Stephen… I will never knowingly let evil into my life, no matter whose blood it carries—including my own.”

Kasmer points out that she and Miller were raised Jewish with stories about surviving pogroms, ghettos, and the Holocaust.

“We celebrated holidays each year with the reminder to stand up and say ‘never again.’ But what you are doing breaks that sacred promise. It breaks everything we were taught,” she said.

“How can you do to others what has been done to us? How can you wake up each day and repeat the cruelty that our people barely escaped from?”

Kasmer wondered out loud what happened to her cousin, who is widely credited with orchestrating the divisive immigration policy of both Trump administrations. Miller was also among the top Trump officials who set a lofty quota of at least 3,000 ICE arrests per day.

Though the quota has triggered tense clashes throughout the country between protesters and federal agents who were determined to deliver, data show that ICE arrests have fallen well below targets.

The Trump administration has consistently maintained that its immigration blitz is aimed at weeding out violent criminals. But official data show that immigrants with no criminal record make up the largest number of people in ICE detention.

“Where does this hateful obsession end? What are you trying to build besides fear? Immigrants were a part of your upbringing. Is this cruelty your way of rejecting a part of yourself?” Kasmer asked, musing that Miller’s evolution was “a perfect storm of ego, fear, hate, and ambition—all of it mangled into something cruel and hollow, masquerading as strength.”

“You’ve destroyed so many lives just to feed your own obsession and ego and uphold an administration so corrupt, so vile, I can barely comprehend it,” she went on. “Being this close to such deep cruelty fills me with shame. I am gutted. My heart breaks that this is the legacy you have brought to our family. A legacy I never asked to share with you, and one I now carry like a curse.”

In a separate Threads post over the weekend, Kasmer revealed that most of Miller’s extended family had also disowned him except for his immediate relatives, whom she said were supportive of the MAGA agenda.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Miller is no stranger to getting disowned by his family members. In 2018, his uncle David Glosser penned a scathing diatribe for Politico magazine where he was described as an “immigration hypocrite.”

Like Kasmer, Miller’s uncle—who is related to him on his mother’s side—underscored the irony of a descendant of immigrants crafting anti-immigrant policies.

“I have watched with dismay and increasing horror as my nephew, an educated man who is well aware of his heritage, has become the architect of immigration policies that repudiate the very foundation of our family’s life in this country,” Glosser wrote.

Daily Beast: Stephen Miller Loses the Plot as MAGA Is Blamed for Judge Attack

Stephen Miller Melts Down as MAGA Is Blamed for Fire at Judge’s House

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller was called out for MAGA’s violent rhetoric after a fire tore through a South Carolina judge’s house.

Judge Diane Goodstein, who ruled against the Trump administration in a high-profile voter registration case, had been walking her dogs on a beach when her $1.1 million Edisto Beach home went up in flames around midday on Saturday.

Goodstein had reportedly been receiving death threats for a few weeks, the local FITSNews reported.

Three people were hospitalized after the blaze, which is being investigated by authorities.

Her husband, Arnold Goodstein, was forced to jump from the first floor to escape the blaze. He is understood to have suffered multiple broken bones. He is a former Democratic state congressman and state senator.

Trump, @StephenM and MAGA-world have been doxxing and threatening judges who rule against Trump, including Judge Goodstein.

Today, someone committed arson on the Judge’s home, severely injuring her husband and son.

Will Trump speak out against the extreme right that did this?? https://t.co/Dl8JcUted7— Daniel Goldman (@danielsgoldman) October 6, 2025

Two others were rescued by neighbors and paramedics from a marshy area at the rear of the house. Goodstein’s son, Arnold Goodstein II, is also in the hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known.

Last month, Judge Goodstein issued a temporary restraining order to block the Trump administration’s Department of Justice from getting access to the South Carolina Election Commission’s voter registration data.

Democratic congressman and attorney Daniel Goldman, who served as lead counsel in the first impeachment of Donald Trump, was quick to tag Miller on X with footage of the fire.

“Stephen Miller and MAGA-world have been doxxing and threatening judges who rule against Trump, including Judge Goodstein,” Goldman wrote on X.

“Today, someone committed arson on the Judge’s home, severely injuring her husband and son. Will Trump speak out against the extreme right that did this??”

Miller was quick to respond, calling Goldman “deeply warped and vile.”

MAGA mouthpiece Miller posted on X, “There is a large and growing movement of leftwing terrorism in this country. It is well organized and funded. And it is shielded by far-left Democrat judges, prosecutors and attorneys general.”

“The only remedy is to use legitimate state power to dismantle terrorism and terror networks,“ Miller wrote.

“While the Trump Administration has launched the first-ever government-wide effort to combat and prosecute illegal doxing, sinister threats and political violence you continue to push despicable lies, demented smears, malicious defamation and foment unrest,” Miller said. “Despicable.”

Goldman replied, saying that Miller was being evasive by avoiding a direct answer to his question.

“If you are trying to combat political violence, why don’t you condemn the political violence against a judge who ruled against you and your admin? It’s pretty simple: do you condemn all political violence or only that against your supporters?”

The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.

Daily Beast: Top Trump Aide Ditches the White House as Exodus Speeds Up

MAGA deputy chief of staff has spent years honing Donald Trump’s message.

One of Donald Trump’s most high-profile staffers has joined the growing line of people leaving the White House.

Taylor Budowich has spent years helping to build and lead Trump’s messaging to his MAGA faithful and the world.

Budowich—a deputy chief of staff who ran communications, cabinet affairs, and speechwriting, and was a close ally of Vice President JD Vance—is departing at month’s end, multiple outlets have reported.

He plans to return to the private sector after years at Trump’s side, including helming the main pro-Trump super PAC through most of 2023 and 2024, according to Axios and The New York Times.

The departure is striking, given his close relations with Chief of Staff Susie Wiles’ operation, and his years leading Trumpworld messaging.

When the Daily Beast contacted the White House for comment, they provided quotes from four of Budowich’s former colleagues.

While Trump was notable by his absence, Wiles said, “Taylor is a dear friend, and I know that President Trump holds him in very high regard. I hate to see him go, personally and professionally, but obviously wish him well in whatever he decides is next.”

Vance said Budowich is “someone I’ve personally relied on countless times during an amazing first year in office.”

Stephen Miller, a fellow deputy chief of staff, also praised him for his loyalty to Trump.

Another deputy chief of staff, Dan Scavino, described Budowich as a “vital asset in Trump 2.0.”

His exit follows a string of high-profile departures from Trump’s second-term power structure.

The White House’s principal deputy communications director, Alex Pfeiffer, quietly walked last week having joined the White House in January.

The MAGA supporter left to join PR shop Watchtower Strategy, whose partner Arthur Schwartz said, “Alex is one of the most effective communicators in the Republican Party, and we’re thrilled to share his talents with our clients.”

On the national-security side, retired Green Beret Mike Waltz—who flamed out as national security adviser in May after a Signal-chat fiasco—was confirmed two days later as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Beyond the West Wing, personnel turbulence has rippled through the administration.

It was reported this week that DOJ chief of staff Chad Mizelle—an ally of Stephen Miller—is set to depart after just 10 months, having helped drive attorney general Pam Bondi’s hard-edge agenda before deciding to return to Florida.

The comings and goings follow Elon Musk’s brief, chaotic imprint on Trump’s bureaucracy as the head of DOGE—as well as its messy fall-out that saw other high-visibility figures purged, before the government begged hundreds of government workers fired by DOGE to come back.

Knewz: Trump admin MAGA loyalists turn on each other

FBI Director Kash Patel has come under fire with top officials in President Donald Trump’s administration amid claims U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi “can’t stand him.” Alongside that allegation, former Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey was just installed at Patel’s embattled agency as co-deputy FBI director alongside Dan Bongino in the wake of growing Patel backlash, Knewz.com can reveal.

Tensions abound

Trump tapped Bailey to help run the FBI, sharing the role of second-in-command with Co-Deputy Director Bongino — a Trump loyalist who recently clashed with other administration officials over the FBI and Justice Department’s handling of a review of the Jeffrey Epstein case. The change comes at a time Patel is under fire over recent mistakes. “The White House, Bondi [and Deputy Attorney General Todd] Blanche have no confidence in Kash. Pam in particular cannot stand him. Blanche either,” a source told Fox News. Bondi and Blanche denied the allegations, and the White House denied plans to strip Patel of his role.

Questioning Patel’s leadership

Within the last few months, particularly following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, questions have been swirling about Patel’s position and leadership. Patel recently faced off with lawmakers during back-to-back appearances before Congress as elected officials questioned him about his decisions and performance following Kirk’s murder, which saw multiple people erroneously arrested early in the investigation. Trump, however, had a different take on the way the manhunt for Kirk’s shooter ended. “I am very proud of the FBI. Kash — and everyone else — they have done a great job,” Trump said.

Patel backlash

Despite Trump’s praise, on social media, many commenters have been urging Patel to step down from his position. “What do you guys think about Kash Patel as head of FBI? I think he needs to step down. The former Attorney General of Missouri Andrew Bailey is being sworn in as a co-deputy director. Maybe he can do better,” wrote one commenter. Another said, “Kash Patel is an incompetent fool who needs to step down from his leadership position.” Yet another said, “I’m very confused [and] disappointed over Kash Patel’s contribution so far. If he can’t [handle] his assignment, he has to step down because this is not good enough. As for Pam Bondi, shouldn’t she be sitting more behind her desk instead of being around President Trump all the time?”

FBI criticism

Many social media users also slammed Patel and the FBI for their performance after the Kirk shooting suspect’s father turned him in to authorities. Once the manhunt for Kirk’s alleged killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, came to an end, one online commenter lamented, “Took 3 days to find the shooter. Didn’t find shooter. Shooter’s father turned him in. Faith won’t let [Patel] say Heaven so he said, ‘See you in Valhalla, Charlie.’ Should Kash Patel be forced to step down?” Another echoed a similar sentiment, writing, “Patel and Bongino need to step down. At least Kash for sure, this has been a s*** show. I’m no fan of Kirk’s but still want justice.”

Raw Story: Kristi Noem’s department scrambles to delete post after Trump supporter’s fury

The Department of Homeland Security is backing down after right-leaning podcaster Teo Von unleashed public fury on them.

Von accused DHS of pilfering his image for its own social media promotion without permission, NOTUS reported.

In a video posted to DHS accounts, Von is seen saying, “Heard you got deported, dude, bye!”

“Yooo DHS i didnt approve to be used in this,” Von posted to X Tuesday night. “I know you know my address so send a check. And please take this down and please keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos.”

“When it comes to immigration my thoughts and heart are alot more nuanced than this video allows. Bye!” he added.

Von has been a big supporter of Trump in the past, but that support may come with financial strings.

DHS deleted the post.

“It’s crazy to me that they would think this is OK,” Von continued in another comment. “What if someone attacks me tomorrow because they think I’m some final boss of deportations or somethin’.”

Von is credited with leading many new young, white men to MAGA during the 2024 campaign, and Von even welcomed JD Vance to his show. He has also been included in trips with the president to the Middle East.

New Republic: Trump’s Biggest Corruption Scandal Isn’t Getting Enough Attention

Donald Trump cashed in on a massively corrupt foreign crypto deal—and no one blinked.

New York Times exposé published Monday tells the tale of two back-to-back deals that enriched three powerful families: the Trumps, the Witkoffs (as in Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff), and the ruling family of the United Arab Emirates.

In one deal, announced in May, a firm of Emirati royal Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan invested $2 billion in World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency company owned by the Trump and Witkoff families—which consequently became among the most prominent crypto firms overnight.

In the other, negotiated “at the same time and by some of the same people,” the White House two weeks later agreed to sell the UAE hundreds of thousands of the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence chips, despite national security concerns.

The Times revealed that some officials in the Trump administration were wary about the chip deal due to UAE-China ties. But a key dissenter at the National Security Council, David Feith, was taken out of the equation when MAGA provocateur Laura Loomer questioned his (and five other NSC members’) loyalty, leading to their removal by the president. Silicon Valley investor David Sacks, Trump’s AI and crypto czar, then took a leading role in the negotiations—and received a White House ethics waiver in order to do so.

While the Times reports that there is no evidence that the two deals constituted an explicit quid pro quo—and the White House, and those involved, maintains they were not linked—they do “violate longstanding norms in the United States for political, diplomatic and private deal-making among senior officials and their children,” according to ethics lawyers cited in the report.

On Bluesky, economist Ryan Cummings, who served on President Joe Biden’s Council of Economic Advisers, wrote that the deals, if linked, would represent, by far, “the largest public corruption scandal in the history of the United States”—amounting to a $2 billion bribe, whereas the most comparable incident, the Harding administration’s Teapot Dome scandal, involved bribes amounting to about $10 million in today’s dollars, he said.

Dan Nexon, a political scientist at Georgetown University, observed that the report reveals how “U.S. foreign policy is much easier to understand once you accept that the main ‘grand strategy’ of the Trump administration is straight-up kleptocracy.”

“The Trump Administration is cashing in on foreign crypto deals—and weakening guardrails that protect our advanced technology,” wrote Senator Elizabeth Warren on X. “We should not pass any crypto legislation without shutting this down.”
