Independent: ICE secretly deported Pennsylvania grandfather, 82, after he lost his Green Card

‘I can see all my family is in pain right now,’ Luis Leon granddaughter said

The family of an 82-year-old Chilean national feared he was dead for weeks before discovering that he had been detained by ICE after he misplaced his green card, according to a report.

Relatives last saw Luis Leon, who lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on June 20, when he and his wife visited the Philadelphia immigration office to replace his lost green card, The Morning Call first reported.

There, officers handcuffed him and took him away without explanation, relatives told the outlet. His family was left scrambling, contacting immigration offices, hospitals and even a morgue for more information on Leon’s whereabouts.

Then, on July 9, Leon’s wife received a call that seemed to confirm the family’s worst fears; the caller claimed the 82-year-old had died.

Thankfully, this week, his family members learned that Leon had been moved from a detention facility in Minnesota to Guatemala. He’s now in a hospital in Guatemala City, the outlet reported. The Independent has reached out to ICE for more information.

It’s not immediately clear why he was sent to Guatemala. But last month, the Supreme Court left the door open for the Trump administration to deport immigrants to countries they have never called home.

“I can see all my family is in pain right now,” his granddaughter Nataly told The Morning Call. She’s planning to fly to Guatemala to see her grandfather, who suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and other conditions.

She told the outlet she hopes to amplify Leon’s experience to show how he was treated by the immigration system.

If the multi-location ordeal wasn’t enough, the unknown caller contacted the family another time. Days after immigration authorities arrested Leon, a woman claiming to be an immigration attorney called Leon’s wife and claimed she could help get Leon out on bail. However, she didn’t mention how she learned about the case or where he was at the time.

Leon was granted political asylum in 1987 after surviving Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s regime, the outlet reported. He has a clean record — and hasn’t even been given so much as a parking ticket, the family claimed.

He’s not alone, figures from the data distribution organization Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse show. As of this week, there are more than 56,800 people in ICE detention; 72 percent of them have no criminal convictions.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram: ICE Reports Major Arrest — Slams Biden-Era Decision

An ICE spokesperson said, “This criminal alien should never have been roaming the streets of Los Angeles. Not only is he a member of the ruthless Surenos gang, but he also has multiple convictions for murder, assault, and rape or sexual abuse of a minor.”

Wow! Golly gee! You finally caught one of the 6% of real criminals that you are supposed to be catching!

Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala, with a history of sex crimes and assault, was arrested after dragging an ICE officer while fleeing in his vehicle.

And a rapist, too. So far you caught only 11% of them.

If you actually concentrated on catching the murderers and rapists instead of masking up and disappearing families from the streets and neighborhods, you wouldn’t have such a godawful PR problem. Unfortunately, like most pigs, you’re too stupid to learn.

Newsweek: ICE arrests 11 Iranian nationals in US amid fears of secret terror cells

The Trump administration said Tuesday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had arrested 11 Iranian citizens over the weekend who were in the U.S. illegally.

Among those arrested was a man ordered for removal from the United States 20 years ago, and others accused of breaking immigration laws.

Goody goody for them! If there are any Iranian terrorists running around loose in the U.S.A., I sure wouldn’t count on ICE to catch them! They’re too busy snatching gardners off the front lawns of L.A.

Alternet: Karoline [Bimbo #1] Leavitt ‘rushes to soothe’ Trump as he rages over new polling

President Donald Trump exploded over a new Fox News poll showing him upside down on approval. The poll — likely to connect with Fox-viewing Trump — reported 46 percent overall approval for his job performance as president and 54 percent disapproving.

Trump blasted the survey on Truth Social: “They are always wrong and anegative. It’s why MAGA HATES FoxNews … . This has gone on for years, but they never change the incompetent polling company that does their work.”

Aww … poor crybaby narcissist!

Alternet: ‘Dangerous moment’: Analyst says Trump deliberately leaving former aides ‘unshielded’

President Donald Trump’s decision to strip security protections from his own former officials has left them dangerously exposed at a time of escalating global conflict and political violence in the United States, The Bulwark’s Will Saletan argued in a piece published Thursday.

According to Saletan, the convergence of foreign assassination plots and domestic political attacks is not coincidental — and Trump’s policies have made the moment even more perilous. “We’re in a dangerous moment,” he said.

“These two challenges aren’t unrelated,” Saletan wrote. “They’ve converged before. They might do so again.”

Daily Beast: MAGA Madman Told ‘Prepper’ Wife to Flee During Killing Spree

An unsealed FBI agent’s affidavit reveals what Vance Boelter texted his wife soon after allegedly committing a pair of brazen shootings.

Hours after allegedly killing a Minnesota state representative and her husband, Vance Boelter sent a text to his wife telling her to flee.

In a newly unsealed affidavit obtained by The New York Times, FBI agent Terry Getsch described the message the suspect sent to Jenny Boelter, 51.

“The text stated something to the effect of they should prepare for war, they needed to get out of the house, and people with guns may be showing up to the house,” he wrote.

Boelter, 57, and his wife were “preppers,” Getsch said. The term refers to people who prepare for a cataclysmic event they believe is imminent, often stockpiling food and equipment.

As it turned out, Boelter himself was the “cataclysmic event”! 😀

MSNBC: The damage has been done: MAGA spreads misinformation after Minnesota shootings

Early reporting suggests the suspect, Vance Boelter, is an evangelical Christian and a conservative who attended political rallies for Donald Trump. Boelter was allegedly targeting liberals and abortion rights advocates, and he reportedly had a hit list naming other prominent Democrats.

But there has been a concerted effort among some on the political right to pretend that this targeted, political attack is not what it looks like.

When Trump was asked on Tuesday if he had called Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz about the shootings, the president told reporters: “I don’t want to call him.”

“Look, he appointed this guy to a position. I think the governor of Minnesota is so whacked out. I’m not calling him. Why would I call him? I could call and say, ‘Hi, how you doing?’ The guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s a mess. So, you know, I could be nice and call, but why waste time?”

Trump’s claim that Walz “appointed” Boelter was likely in response to a story that broke in The New York Post on Saturday afternoon amid all the confusion in the wake of the shooting. It was truly one of the most audaciously cynical things I have ever seen from a Rupert Murdoch-owned publication — and that is really saying something.

An archived version of the headline as it appeared on the Post’s website Saturday read: “Former appointee of Tim Walz sought in deadly shootings of Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, had ‘No Kings’ fliers in car: sources”

In that article, The New York Post took two facts about this case and appeared to use them to manufacture a completely false narrative. First, the fact that the suspect, Boelter, was reappointed to an incredibly obscure little bipartisan commission on workforce development by Walz a few years ago. And second, that the suspect, who was targeting critics of Trump, apparently had flyers for Saturday’s “No Kings” protest in his car. The idea here, it appears, was to paint this guy as some sort of leftist.

Naturally, this conspiracy theory spread in the sewer that is Elon Musk’s social media platform, X. In fact, it was even promoted by Musk himself, who shared the conspiracy initially, adding: “The left is murderously violent.” He later edited the post to read: “The far left is murderously violent.”

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah helped spread the misinformation by making a number of despicable comments about the shooting on his personal X account. Lee shared an image of the alleged gunman with the caption: “This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way.”

You have to come to one of two conclusions here: Either Lee is so childishly gullible that he will believe even the most outlandish conspiracy with the flimsiest of evidence. Or he is so unfathomably cynical that he knows it’s a lie but wants his followers to believe it anyway.

Raw Story: Trump rebuked as judge bars re-arrest of another student activist

A federal judge has once again handed President Donald Trump a loss in the administration’s efforts to deport international student activist Mohammed Hoque.

According to Politico legal affairs reporter Josh Gerstein, Judge Jerry Blackwell of the District of Minnesota granted Hoque’s petition for a writ of habeas corpus, preventing him from being re-detained.

Hoque, a Bangladeshi national studying at Minnesota State University-Mankato involved in pro-Palestine activism, was arrested earlier this year, allegedly over the revocation of his visa. Authorities reportedly followed him home from class and arrested him in front of his family.

Blackwell ordered his release last month after the federal government failed to prove it had a political reason for locking him up and terminating his Student and Exchange Visitor Program, or SEVIS, status.

In issuing the habeas grant, Blackwell further slammed the Trump administration for targeting Hoque over First Amendment-protected political activity.

“The record separately establishes that Petitioner’s SEVIS termination violates DHS policies. The first is a policy against targeting protected speech,” wrote Blackwell. “The second is a policy that visa revocation does not justify SEVIS termination … Not only does agency policy preclude the practice, it contravenes federal law.”

The Hill: Walz responds to Trump refusing to call him after Minnesota shootings

Trump told reporters early Tuesday during his flight back from the Group of Seven summit that he would not be calling Walz.

“I think the governor of Minnesota is so whacked out. I’m not calling,” Trump said. “Why would I call him?”

“The guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s a mess. So, you know, I could be nice and call, but why waste time?” he continued.

So totally unpresidential!

Daily Beast: Cops Probe If Captured MAGA Assassin Is Part of ‘Broader Network’

Cops are not ruling out the possibility that the suspected Minnesota assassin is part of a “broader network.”

Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was detained in the state’s rural Sibley County on Sunday night, after an intense two-day manhunt. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Drew Evans, superintendent of Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, spoke at the same press conference and said that authorities are exploring the possibility that the suspect may not have acted alone.
