A retired American general tore into President Donald Trump and said his latest threats to send the National Guard into Democratic-run cities are merely a tactic to distract his base and the media, likening it to “catnip.”
Major General William Enyart joined MSNBC on Monday afternoon to discuss Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s (D) blistering speech, hitting back at Trump’s plans to send troops to Chicago.
“A barnburner of a speech from Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who told the people of Illinois in no uncertain terms that what Donald J. Trump plans to do in his city is, ‘unprecedented, illegal, unconstitutional, and un-American,’ urging him publicly with the city’s business, faith and elected officials, ‘Do not come to Chicago,'” noted host Nicolle Wallace.
She added that Pritzker made a “salient, indisputable fact” that 13 of the top 20 cities when it comes to homicide rates are led by Republicans. Additionally, eight Republican-led states have the top homicide rates.
Enyart said Pritzker made a “spot-on speech.”
“Trump desperately needs to cling on to power. And I think the reason that he is taking these actions is distraction, distraction, distraction,” he said.
Enyart then hit back at Trump’s claims with statistics of his own.
“The price of hamburger a year ago today: $5.35 a pound. Hamburger today: $6.98 a pound. That’s a 33% increase. Coffee $6.32 a year ago. Today, it’s $8.41 a pound, another 30-plus percent. Food prices have gone up every single month, but one, since Trump took office,” he noted.
Enyart called out Trump for vowing to drive food prices down.
“Yet another lie. He can’t afford to face truth. And that’s why he has to have distraction,” he railed.
Enyart called Trump’s use of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and proposal to do the same in Chicago simply that.
“He is doing it in order to provide a distraction to his base and to, frankly, to most of the news media so they’ll chase that catnip,” he said, calling Trump’s tariffs a “failure,” along with his negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Corn prices have cratered. Corn prices are 40% down from what they were under the Biden administration,” he added.
Soybean prices for farmers, he added, are down more than 50% since Biden’s administration.
” China used to buy 60% of their soybeans from the United States farmers. Today? 20%. Brazil took those. Why? Trump’s tariffs. His policies are incredibly unpopular, and so he needs to put on a show. He is a mastermind at showmanship, and that’s what he is doing.”
President Donald Trump has taken aim at MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace in a bizarre social media rant.
The drama started when 79-year-old Trump kicked off his Sunday morning with a cryptic post on Truth Social.
“Bela,” he wrote, leaving his followers to debate the meaning of the word.
In a reply, one user posted a doctored photo of Wallace with a “Karen” haircut and a red nose alongside the text, “Typhoid Mary Nicole Wallace,” “Clown news,” and “Nicole Wallace is afraid of losing her job. Get her a Waaambulance.” A fake news ticker showed the MSNBC logo alongside the word “misinformation.”
Wallace, who now hosts Deadline: White House on MSNBC, was former White House communications director under President George W. Bush.
“She is a loser, with bad ratings, who was already thrown off of The View,” Trump replied on Sunday. “She will be fired soon! MSNBC IS DEAD!”
The post came after the president shared his disdain for members of the media after he met with President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, where he failed to secure a ceasefire.
Before the meeting on Friday, Trump firmly stated that Putin could expect “severe consequences” if he didn’t agree to end the fighting in Ukraine. But the president has since changed his tune, saying achieving peace will require territorial concessions from Ukraine. He is slated to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday.
“It’s incredible how the Fake News violently distorts the TRUTH when it comes to me,” he raged. “There is NOTHING I can say or do that would lead them to write or report honestly about me. I had a great meeting in Alaska on Biden’s stupid War, a war that should have never happened!!!”
In a second post, Trump added, “If I got Russia to give up Moscow as part of the Deal, the Fake News, and their PARTNER, the Radical Left Democrats, would say I made a terrible mistake and a very bad deal. That’s why they are the FAKE NEWS!”
Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General and former Commanding General of the U.S. Army Europe and the Seventh Army Mark Hertling responded to President Donald Trump greeting Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday in what was billed as a summit to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war.
Hertling, who often provides military analyst on CNN, wrote on social media on Friday: “This afternoon, I told @NicolleDWallace that I had a sense of ‘dread’ about what might happen in the Alaskan ‘summit.’ After watching the press conference, that dread has come to life.” He added, “This whole thing is despicable.”
Days before the summit, Hertling wrote: “Watching the US prep for a critically important meeting with Putin in Alaska reminds me of students who realize they had an assignment a day before it is due. Hoping I’m wrong, but concerned about the diplomatic approach & the potential outcome.”
Hertling is not the only highly decorated veteran who has voiced opposition to Trump’s warm welcome of Putin on U.S. soil. Retired Marine Lt. Col. fighter pilot Amy McGrath also criticized the Trump administration.
McGrath wrote: “I’m sorry but it’s hard to get over the picture of the airmen on their knees, in front of the Russian jet, rolling out the red carpet for a mass murderer. Just never thought I’d see that.”
MAGA influencers including Charlie Kirk and Fox News star Laura Ingraham, neither with military credentials, say those who are critical of the meeting are “biased.”
Kirk wrote: “Anything the media says about the Alaska summit must be immediately discredited because they are mad Trump met with Putin at all.” And Ingraham responded to the negative feedback on X: “Anyone saying that the Trump-Putin meeting was a failure is ignorant, biased or both.”
Trump, who has continually threatened Putin with increased sanctions and worse if the Russian leader failed to agree to a ceasefire by certain dates, left the meeting saying a ceasefire was no longer the immediate goal.
“It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Leavitt doesn’t know how to quit Trump stanning
Donald Trump surrounds himself with “yes” people. They strictly adhere to the party line and are not backward in coming forward with adulation and fervent defences, no matter how indefensible Trump’s actions are. However, if they dare to step out of line, their downfall is fast and furious, as evident by Trump’s epic fallout with his first VP, Mike Pence. Still, given Karoline Leavitt’s unwavering devotion, it’s impossible to envision such an indignity ever befalling her.
“Leavitt’s either tragically uninformed or lying, MSNBC “Deadline: Washington” host and political commentator, Nicolle Wallace, claimed in March 2025. Given Leavitt’s complete subservience, parroting of narrative, and unbridled fury at anyone who dares question Trump’s alternative facts, Occam’s razor seemingly points to lying, with way more than a healthy dose of obsession added. During a July 31 White House press conference, Leavitt drastically upped her game by exalting Trump for the many global conflicts he’s professed to have brokered ceasefires for and/or ended wars in since entering office on January 20. “It’s well past time President Trump was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize,” she insisted.
Leavitt’s call for 47 to be honored was met with mixed reactions. “Every dictator has a spokesperson like Karoline Leavitt: officious, condescending, arrogant, humorless, overbearing, sanctimonious, dismissive, zealous, unapproachable, militant, inflexible, pedantic, aloof, hostile, patronizing, contemptuous, self-important, thin-skinned, and worshipful of their ‘dear leader,'” one X, formerly Twitter, commenter ranted. “Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize Caroline [sic] Leavitt for President,” another gushed.

He noted that these kinds of statements only “incite people more.” By claiming the left is behind the violence is “radicalizing people more towards the victims.”
