A Massachusetts mother of four and longtime U.S. resident has been released from immigration custody after being detained earlier this month at Boston Logan International Airport over a decades-old marijuana conviction. Knewz.com has learned that Jemmy Jimenez Rosa, 42, had traveled to Mexico with her family on vacation and was stopped by Customs and Border Protection upon reentry despite holding a recently renewed green card.
On August 11, Rosa returned to the United States with her husband and children. Her husband, Marcel Rosa, said he handed over the family’s passports and his wife’s green card before officers escorted her into a private room. She was then held at Logan Airport for four days. According to her lawyer, Todd Pomerleau, she was denied access to a phone, her medications and basic hygiene. “She has diabetes, high blood pressure, mental health issues,” Pomerleau told Newsweek. He added that she was twice hospitalized in those first days of detention. After that period, Rosa was transferred to a detention facility in Maine. “She was in such poor condition that she could barely walk or function,” Pomerleau said.
Pomerleau said he was never given an official explanation for Rosa’s detention, but he believes it stemmed from a 2003 misdemeanor possession charge for a small amount of marijuana. “At most, it could have possibly been a 2003 possession charge for a small amount of marijuana, which was pardoned fully and unconditionally by the governor of Massachusetts. The records were sealed, which means they never would have even had access to them without gaining special permission from the court.” Pomerleau later challenged the old conviction in Roxbury district court, arguing that Rosa did not receive adequate legal counsel when she entered her plea two decades earlier. The judge and prosecutor agreed, vacating the conviction and dismissing the case.
Pomerleau filed an emergency motion demanding Rosa’s release, noting she had never been served with a notice to appear. Later that day, she was freed. Her husband described her detention as devastating for the family. In a GoFundMe post, he wrote, “Jemmy is a valid green card holder who was born in Peru and came to the U.S. at the age of 9. No reason for the arrest has been given. She has been held without receiving proper medical care. … Jemmy is very selfless, constantly trying to help out family and friends. Everything’s about the kids with her.” The fundraiser has collected more than $12,500 for legal expenses. Pomerleau said her case illustrates the risks many legal immigrants face under current enforcement policies. “There needs to be fundamental change. Hopefully our case sheds light on the travesty of justice,” he said.
Rosa’s case unfolded against the backdrop of an immigration administration crackdown that has swept up immigrants with legal status as well as undocumented residents. A Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said in a statement, “A green card is a privilege, not a right, and under our nation’s laws, our government has the authority to revoke a green card if our laws are broken and abused. Lawful Permanent Residents presenting at a U.S. port of entry with previous criminal convictions may be subject to mandatory detention and/or may be asked to provide additional documentation to be set up for an immigration hearing.” However, Pomerleau criticized the government’s actions, saying, “What is happening now is unprecedented. It’s an assault on the rule of law and due process.” Massachusetts Congressman Stephen Lynch said the episode raised “red flags in terms of the delay and what services are available to her as a legal permanent resident.”

A new Trump administration report condemned the Biden administration for its treatment of Christians.
The initial report of the Department of Justice’s Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias has been released, and it categorized what it called “numerous instances of anti-Christian bias during the Biden administration.”
“Joe Biden weaponized the full weight of the federal government against Christians and trampled on their fundamental First Amendment rights,” White House representative Taylor Rogers said, according to Fox News.
“Unlike Joe Biden, President Trump is protecting Christians, not punishing them,” Rogers said.
The report said that in recent years, America’s Christian underpinnings have been “undermined. The political, social, and humanitarian contributions of Christians have been devalued, their beliefs marginalized, and their communities unlawfully targeted by their own government.”
“A review of federal departments and agencies revealed a consistent and systematic pattern of discrimination against Christians during the Biden Administration. Where there should have been ‘equal justice under law’ there was unequal treatment — policies and practices that singled out Christian people, Christian houses of worship, and Christian convictions for disfavored treatment,” the report said.
The report included the task force’s vow that “the federal government will never again be permitted to turn its power against people of faith.”
“Under President Trump and Attorney General Bondi’s leadership, in partnership with all members of this Task Force, the rule of law will be enforced with vigor, and every religion will be treated with equality in both policy and action. The days of anti-Christian bias in the federal government are over. Faith is not a liability in America — it is a liberty,” the report said.
The report cited various departments that imposed prejudicial actions against Christians.
For example, it said, the Department of State “provided limited humanitarian relief to Christians relative to other populations and offered muted responses to attacks on Christians compared to other groups.”
In the State Department, “preferential employment practices were afforded adherents of non-Christian religions, while Christian employees were disfavored. It was particularly concerning that employees were less likely to be permitted leave for observation of certain Christian holidays as opposed to non-Christian ones.”
It also “imposed radical LGBTQ gender ideology on foreign governments and State employees, including the forced usage of preferred pronouns and rainbow flags, violating the sincerely held religious beliefs of many Christians and other Americans of faith.”
The Department of Justice “arrested and convicted approximately two dozen individuals under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for praying and demonstrating outside abortion facilities. Yet, the same DOJ refused to apply the FACE Act to protect places of worship and crisis pregnancy centers,” per the report.
Over at the Department of Education, “The Biden Administration’s ‘book ban coordinator’ role within ED, investigated school boards for removing age-inappropriate materials from school libraries, typically in response to religious objections by parents.”
“Though these investigations remain in their early stages, the evidence uncovered is unmistakable: during the Biden Administration, people of faith, particularly Christians, were repeatedly subjected to anti-religious bias at the hands of their own government,” the report’s conclusion noted.
“By eradicating anti-Christian bias in the federal government, the Task Force is reaffirming a principle older than the Republic itself, that freedom of religion is not granted by government but guaranteed against it.
“America must remain One Nation Under God if she is to remain Indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for All. The Task Force will never permit the federal government to be used as a weapon against faith.”
The Jan. 6 rioter seen in photos wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” hoodie inside the U.S. Capitol building has been arrested in Virginia on charges stemming from a dog attack.
Robert Keith Packer, 60, was arrested on Thursday “following an investigation into an animal-related incident” that had occurred on Monday in Newport News, a city spokesperson said.
Packer was charged with one count of animal attack resulting from owner’s disregard for human life, a felony, the spokesperson said. He was also charged with attacking while at large and no city license, both misdemeanors.
Civil charges have also been filed against Packer, including dogs running in a pack and vicious dog, the spokesperson said.
Police told Newport News ABC affiliate WVEC that four people were taken to the hospital with dog bites stemming from the attack.
“As part of the investigation, authorities seized one adult dog, six 11-week-old puppies, four live rabbits, and one deceased rabbit from the property,” the spokesperson said.
The case is being investigated by the city’s Animal Services division, police said.
Packer is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Sept. 12. Online court records do not list any attorney information.
He was previously convicted in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, after pleading guilty in 2022 to one misdemeanor count of demonstrating inside the U.S. Capitol building and was sentenced to 75 days in prison in connection with the Capitol siege.
Federal prosecutors in the Jan. 6 case said that Packer has been a “habitual criminal offender for 25 years with 21 convictions for mostly drunk driving, but also for larceny, drug possession, and forgery.” He was incarcerated for several previous offenses, they said.
He was ultimately pardoned, after President Donald Trump issued a sweeping series of pardons for defendants charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack earlier this year.

Fears that President Donald Trump suffered a heart attack have mounted after a young woman on TikTok claimed that she had spotted an LVAD under the president’s shirt.
A Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) is a mechanical pump surgically implanted in a patient with advanced heart failure to help the left side of their heart pump blood throughout the body. User samanthaannemarti posted the video on Wednesday and has since reached 900,000 views, pointing out the device in her video.
“So, is nobody going to talk about what that is?” she said. “I think it’s an LVAD, yes, I do.” It comes after a doctor warned Trump’s leg may need to be amputated after spotting a sinister health warning sign.
She believes that she can see a square shape under the president’s clothing, and that she has the right to know what it is, at the same time, people have the right to privacy. The woman in the video goes on about an LVAD, but she doesn’t actually come out and say what it is, which has gotten people’s attention with a post on X garnering over 3 million views.
According to the woman in the video, she believes Trump has been fitted with the device and that the White House isn’t being transparent about his health. She said, “They are not transparent, like they claim to be.”
She added, “They’ll never tell us if there’s something wrong with this man’s health.” According to the woman, who made the video from the passenger seat of her car, the lack of transparency leaves people to speculate, and she is going to speculate that Trump has an LVAD.

The Trump administration is moving forward with plans to rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War after President Donald Trump first floated the idea on Monday, according to a Fox News report. A White House official confirmed the plan to The Mirror US on Thursday.
The decision marks a stark U-turn from the president’s campaign promises in 2024 to pursue peace, and from his frequent criticisms of former President Joe Biden for driving the U.S. “closer to World War III than anybody can imagine.”
“As President Trump said, our military should be focused on offense – not just defense – which is why he has prioritized warfighters at the Pentagon instead of DEI and woke ideology. Stay tuned!” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told Reuters this week, referring to programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity and inclusion. The Trump administration has not revealed the reasons it believes the department’s name constitutes “woke ideology.” It comes after a lip reader revealed the chilling 3-word promise that Donald Trump whispered into Vladimir Putin’s ear at their Alaska summit.
The move follows a string of similar name-changing decisions by the Trump administration as a measure of projecting the president’s stance on specific policy issues. In January, Trump issued an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America”. He also referred to his controversial July domestic spending bill as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which in recent days his administration has attempted to rebrand as the “working families tax cut.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has also ordered the renaming of certain military vessels that previously bore the names of civil rights leaders, such as the USNS Harvey Milk. Last month, he renamed his conference room the “W.A.R. Room.” Hegseth has often proven to be concerned with the outward appearance of elements of his department, having even ordered a makeup studio to be installed inside the Pentagon and dictated which colors of nail polish are acceptable to be worn by Army soldiers.
Though restoring the name would require congressional action, the White House is reportedly exploring alternative methods to enact the change, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The decision to rename the Pentagon comes amid a broader push by Trump, Hegseth and their coalition to restore a “warrior ethos” to the federal government and America as a whole. It has included a purge of top military leaders whose views do not align with the president’s agenda.
“As Department of War, we won everything. We won everything,” Trump said last month, referring to the War Department established by Congress in 1789 to oversee the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. “I think we’re going to have to go back to that.”
The administration has also sought to ban transgender individuals from voluntarily joining the military and remove those who are currently serving on the basis of a claim that they are medically unfit. The claim has been described by civil rights groups as false and a representation of illegal discrimination, according to Reuters.
“This is so stupid and it’s going to make us a laughing stock in front of both our allies and our enemies,” one user wrote on X on Thursday.
Posturing the top defense department in the nation in a more aggressive and offensive direction is at odds with promises and statements made by Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump lobbed frequent criticisms at Biden for the fact that, during his presidency, Russia invaded Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Hamas was ignited. “(Biden) will drive us into World War III, and we’re closer to World War III than anybody can imagine,” Trump said, according to CNN.
Last August, while endorsing anti-war former Democratic Rep. Tusli Gabbard at a National Guard conference in Detroit, Trump claimed both Democrats and Independents would vote for him because of his plan to end wars. “We’re uniting forces to end the endless foreign wars,” he said of Gabbard’s endorsement. “When I’m back in the White House, we will expel the warmongers, the profiteers … and we will restore world peace.”
“I am confident that his first task will be to do the work to walk us back from the brink of war,” Gabbard said. “We cannot be prosperous unless we are at peace.”
His decision in June to launch a missile attack on Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities threw several of his most ardent, right-wing supporters into opposition, urging the president and his allies not to engage in foreign conflicts.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday that would let the U.S. designate nations as state sponsors of wrongful detention, using the threat of associated sanctions to deter Americans from being detained abroad or taken hostage.

Fox’s News Chief National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin made an ominous observation Friday about the deployment of several fighter jets and U.S. Navy vessels to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Sea.
Griffin posted the news on Friday midday, writing, “The Pentagon is deploying 10 F-35 stealth fighter jets to Puerto Rico for counter-narcotics tasking in the Caribbean, a source familiar confirms to Fox News per Lucas Tomlinson.”
Griffin, one of the most respected national security reporters in the country, then added, “Why would you need F35 stealth fighter jets for a counternarcotics mission?”
“The F35s being sent to Puerto Rico are usually used for large bombing missions like the targeting of Iran’s nuclear facilities- a 5th generation supersonic fighter jet known for its lethality. It looks to me like the US military is going to war. 8 US Navy destroyers in the Caribbean near Venezuela is a first,” Griffin warned, suggesting the U.S. may be on a war footing.
Earlier in the week, President Donald Trump announced they bombed a vessel in the Caribbean that was allegedly carrying drugs and operated by the Tren de Aragua gang.
“The strike occurred while the terrorists were at sea in International waters transporting illegal narcotics, heading to the United States. No U.S. Forces were harmed in this strike. Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America,” Trump announced on Truth Social.
The announcement raised questions surrounding the scope of the U.S. military’s mission in the Caribbean and under what legal authority the Trump administration is operating. Vice President JD Vance was asked on Wednesday, “On the Venezuela vessel strike, what legal authority were you guys working under? And will there be an after-action report on the strike?”
“Well, I’m sure there’s going to be an after-action report. I mean, the legal authority, and I want to talk about these kids, is that there are people who are bringing literal terrorists, who are bringing deadly drugs into our country, and the President of the United States ran on a promise of stopping this poison from coming into our country,” Vance replied, dodging the question. “Another question?”
