Robert Reich: Ineptitude, incompetence, stupidity, and chaos
Trump is fundamentally incapable of governing. That’s the theme that unites everything.
Some Democrats fear they’re playing into Trump’s hands by fighting his mass deportations rather than focusing on his failures on bread-and-butter issues like the cost of living.
But it’s not either-or. The theme that unites Trump’s inept handling of deportations, his trampling on human and civil rights, his rejection of the rule of law, his dictatorial centralization of power, and his utterly inept handling of the economy is the ineptness itself.
In his first term, not only did his advisers and Cabinet officials put guardrails around his crazier tendencies, but they also provided his first administration a degree of stability and focus. Now, it’s mayhem.

Major furniture store announces closure as they fire all staff citing Trump’s tariffs on Mexico
A major furniture retailer is closing its doors by the end of the year, they say, making the announcement this week as they also lay off all of their staff members
Progressive Furniture has become one of the first U.S. companies to announce that they’ll be shutting down and laying off all 30 employees by year’s end – citing tariffs on their source factory. It comes as the economist whose work inspired Trump’s tariff plan says the White House got it ‘wrong’.
Progressive Furniture is a branch of Sauder Woodworking located in Claremont, North Carolina. They’re the world’s seventh-largest furniture manufacturer, selling their wares at Walmart, Target, and Home Depot.

In the month since President Trump signed an executive order eliminating diversity, equity and inclusion programs at the federal level, cancellations and rollbacks of DEI programs continue to mount.
The order has given private sector companies hollow excuses and political cover for pulling back on DEI. Ironically, these were some of the same companies that rushed to create DEI offices after the murder of George Floyd during the first Trump administration.
The intent of DEI programs is to bring fairness and inclusion to the workplace through diverse voices, especially those of women, veterans and people of color. We don’t see that as being a bad thing.
