A defiant Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth appeared on Fox & Friends, the morning show he used to co-host, and seemingly blamed everyone else for the current dysfunction unfolding at the Pentagon since he took over.

Hegseth is coming off a string of tough news cycles that started with the apparent firing of some top aides he brought in to help run the Defense Department on Friday: a damning Politico column written by one of the outgoing and now-former staff members, which called Hegseth’s tenure “total chaos” and a stunning New York Times report that he had shared classified information with his wife, brother, and lawyer on the commercial app, Signal.

Newsweek: DOGE Gets Access to Sensitive Data for Millions of Migrants: What To Know

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has reportedly been granted access to sensitive immigration case data.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) gave permission to a team of six DOGE “advisors” to access the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s Courts and Appeals System (ECAS) on Friday, according to documents seen by The Washington Post.

ECAS includes millions of confidential records from immigration court cases, ranging from asylum claims to personal biographical information.

It is not explicitly clear what DOGE’s mission with this data is but it could be part of President Donald Trump‘s to crack down on illegal immigration.

The DOGE team of six reportedly includes Marko Elez, a staffer who resigned from the government in February in the wake of a scandal over his association with a social media account that promoted racism and eugenics, which was reported by The Post at the time.

Jennifer Vasquez Sura has fought to bring her husband, Kilmar Abrego García, home from a Salvadoran prison while caring for their three kids, two of whom are disabled.

The wife of Kilmar Abrego García, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to a notorious prison in El Salvador by the Trump administration, has been moved to a safe house by supporters after U.S. officials posted a court document on social media that included the family’s address.

This is unconscionable: It seems that King Donald and his cronies are trying to make life as hellish as possible not only for the improperly deported Kilmar Abrego García but also for his wife and children.

Now the U.S. is dumping refugees in Rwanda:

A US State Department cable was sent from the American Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda, on March 13th with some major news: Rwanda said it was willing to accept deportees from the United States who are unable to be sent to their country of origin for fear of persecution. A copy of the cable reviewed by The Handbasket in March confirmed the news. And now according to a new cable, which has also been reviewed by The Handbasket, the first person has officially been deported from the US to Rwanda via this new arrangement.

The Trump administration’s efforts to deport as many people as possible is loudly and publicly underway, most notably with the 238 men who were sent to El Salvador in March without due process. Unlike those cases, however, the administration has opted to quietly send Iraqi national Omar Abdulsattar Ameen from the US to Rwanda, wherein Rwanda acts as a “third country.” But it remains unclear what legal processes allowed for this to happen.

The cable, sent today—April 22, 2025—confirms Ameen’s “relocation” has already happened.

Trump is fundamentally incapable of governing. That’s the theme that unites everything.

Some Democrats fear they’re playing into Trump’s hands by fighting his mass deportations rather than focusing on his failures on bread-and-butter issues like the cost of living.

But it’s not either-or. The theme that unites Trump’s inept handling of deportations, his trampling on human and civil rights, his rejection of the rule of law, his dictatorial centralization of power, and his utterly inept handling of the economy is the ineptness itself.

In his first term, not only did his advisers and Cabinet officials put guardrails around his crazier tendencies, but they also provided his first administration a degree of stability and focus. Now, it’s mayhem.

The commander of Fort McCoy was relieved of duty after the U.S. Army base failed to install photos of President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on a wall displaying their chain of command. 

Col.  Sheyla Baez Ramirez was suspended as garrison commander of Ft. McCoy in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. “This suspension is not related to any misconduct,” the U.S. Army Reserve Command said in a statement, “We have no further details to provide at this time while this matter is under review.”

President Donald Trump on Monday weighed in on what he called a “very important issue” creating waves in a small Long Island community after the Massapequa School Board asked the MAGA leader to help them keep their district’s Native American logo.

“I agree with the people in Massapequa, Long Island, who are fighting furiously to keep the Massapequa Chiefs logo on their Teams and School,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “Forcing them to change the name, after all of these years, is ridiculous and, in actuality, an affront to our great Indian population.”

Let the Indians speak up for themselves, if they think the Massapequa Chiefs logo is such a great honor. Apparently they don’t, nor do they need a meddlesome wannabe dictator speaking on their behalf.
