Raw Story: Trump rebuked as judge bars re-arrest of another student activist

A federal judge has once again handed President Donald Trump a loss in the administration’s efforts to deport international student activist Mohammed Hoque.

According to Politico legal affairs reporter Josh Gerstein, Judge Jerry Blackwell of the District of Minnesota granted Hoque’s petition for a writ of habeas corpus, preventing him from being re-detained.

Hoque, a Bangladeshi national studying at Minnesota State University-Mankato involved in pro-Palestine activism, was arrested earlier this year, allegedly over the revocation of his visa. Authorities reportedly followed him home from class and arrested him in front of his family.

Blackwell ordered his release last month after the federal government failed to prove it had a political reason for locking him up and terminating his Student and Exchange Visitor Program, or SEVIS, status.

In issuing the habeas grant, Blackwell further slammed the Trump administration for targeting Hoque over First Amendment-protected political activity.

“The record separately establishes that Petitioner’s SEVIS termination violates DHS policies. The first is a policy against targeting protected speech,” wrote Blackwell. “The second is a policy that visa revocation does not justify SEVIS termination … Not only does agency policy preclude the practice, it contravenes federal law.”

Raw Story: New Pam [Bimbo #3] Bondi promotion gives disgraced county clerk a key new ally

Disgraced county election clerk Tina Peters has a new ally in the U.S. District of Colorado’s office after Attorney General Pam [Bimbo #3] Bondi appointed Peter McNeilly to become the next U.S. attorney on Monday.

McNeilly was part of a Justice Department cadre who filed a Statement of Interest in March concerning Peters’s election interference case. In August, Peters was convicted on seven counts, including four felonies, for helping a man illegally access Mesa County election voting machines. She was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser vehemently objected to the review and called on the judge to reject the federal government’s filing. Weiser claimed it was a “naked, political attempt to threaten or intimidate this Court or the attorneys that prosecuted this matter.”

“The United States cites not a single fact to support its baseless allegations that there are any reasonable concerns about Ms. Peters’ prosecution or sentence, or that the prosecution was politically motivated,” Weiser wrote in a response to the Statement of Interest.

Raw Story: FBI ‘opened the door for me’: Padilla smashes [Bimbo #2] Noem’s excuse for security scuffle

“While waiting for my scheduled briefing,” Padilla said, “I learned that Homeland Security Secretary [Bimbo #2] Noem was holding a press conference literally just down the hall, and that press conference was causing my briefing to be delayed.”

The senator went on to explain he wanted to listen to [Bimbo #2] Noem’s press conference “in the hopes of hearing Secretary Noem provide some new information that could help us make sense of what was happening.”

“I didn’t just get up and go,” Padilla said, “I asked and was escorted by the national guardsmen and the FBI agent into the press conference.”

“They opened the door for me,” the California Senator said. “They accompanied me into the press briefing room, and they stood next to me as I stood there for a while, listening.”

After the incident, [Bimbo #2] Noem claimed she and security officers had no idea who Padilla was as, she claimed, he pushed towards her in the briefing.

Padilla claims [Bimbo #2] Noem said the purpose of federal law enforcement and military was to “liberate Los Angeles from our governor and our mayor.”

He then asked his fellow senators to contemplate that statement, “To somehow liberate us from the very people that we democratically elected to lead our city and our state.”

“Colleagues,” Padilla said, “let that fundamentally un-American mission statement sink in. That is not a mission focused on public safety, and that simply is not and cannot be the mission of federal law enforcement and the United States military.”

The senator went on to say he was “compelled both as a Senator and as an American to speak up.”

Padilla claimed that before he could get out his question, he was “physically and aggressively forced out of the room,” he added, “even as I repeatedly announced I was a United States Senator.”

He claims the agents who escorted him into the room stood by silently as he was “pushed, pulled, and struggled to maintain his balance.”

Daily Beast: Stephen Miller and ICE Barbie in Bitter West Wing Civil War Over Round-Ups

White House Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem—dubbed “ICE Barbie” for her stylized anti-immigration photo ops—were enraged after learning that Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins had called Trump and suggested that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents avoid deporting longtime workers in sectors heavily reliant on migrant labor, Axios reported.

Rollins’ intervention—which one insider described as “minimal”—appeared to sway the president. Last week, Trump floated the idea of carving out exemptions from his mass deportation plans specifically to avoid targeting non-criminal workers on farms and in hotels.

An official policy shift followed soon after. Senior ICE official Tatum King informed regional ICE offices Thursday that “investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meatpacking plants), restaurants, and operating hotels” would be paused.

By Monday, the Department of Homeland Security reversed course, notifying staff that the previous guidelines were scrapped and that ICE would resume raids on agricultural businesses, hotels, and restaurants, The Washington Post reported.

Newsweek: Trump reveals new price tag for Canada to join “Golden Dome” defense system

President Donald Trump increased the proposed price for Canada’s participation in the U.S. Golden Dome missile defense system.

“They want to be in,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday. “Seventy-one billion they’re going to pay.”

The new price tag is $10 billion higher than Trump’s earlier public demand for Canadian entry into the program.

And what if Canada simply said, “Take your Golden Dome and shove it! You may not put any part of your Golden Dome on Canadian soil.” The U.S. would be up the proverbial creek.

Fox News: Rock band frontman declares Trump voters are ‘not allowed’ at his shows

‘Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’ singer claims ‘woke’ predictions about Trump have come true while slamming president’s Christian supporters

The lead singer of the alternative rock band “The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus” told supporters supporters of President Donald Trump they are permanently banned from his shows Saturday.

Frontman Ronnie Winter made the declaration in video posted to his band’s official Instagram page, saying, “If you voted for Donald Trump, do not come to my shows — forever, not just like these four years.”

He specifically attacked Christian Trump supporters, stating, “If you’re Christian and you voted for Donald Trump, shame on you. You are not allowed to come to my shows. I don’t want you there. Don’t come to my shows.”

Right on, man!

Raw Story: Pete Hegseth deploys troops to several states for ICE support

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered 700 military personnel to be deployed to Florida, Louisiana, and Texas for deportation operations.

In a statement on Tuesday, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the troops would support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“These service members, drawn from all components and operating in a Title 10 duty status, will provide logistical support, and conduct administrative and clerical functions associated with the processing of illegal aliens at ICE detention facilities,” Parnell said. “They will not directly participate in law enforcement activities.”

Daily Beast: ICE Pushes to Deport Reporter Arrested at ‘No Kings’ Rally

Attorneys for Mario Guevara, a reporter who live-streamed his own arrest Saturday, say he was detained simply for covering the protest.

An Emmy Award-winning reporter who recorded his own arrest while covering a “No Kings” protest in metro Atlanta now faces possible deportation.

Mario Guevara, a Spanish-language journalist known for his coverage of immigration raids, was live-streaming the anti-Trump rally Saturday when tensions between officers in riot gear and marchers escalated, Fox 5 reported.

Wearing a helmet and a press-labeled vest, Guevara was filming a group of officers in a parking lot when they began moving towards him. Despite identifying himself as a journalist, he was arrested.

Guevara’s attorneys have condemned the arrest—arguing he was detained simply for documenting the protest, according to Fox 5.

On Monday, attorneys successfully petitioned for bond, only to learn that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had lodged a “detainer” against Guevara, blocking his release for 48 hours so ICE officers can take him into custody.

The detainer means the federal government believes Guevara, who is originally from El Salvador, can be deported. Attorney Giovanni Diaz said that while Guevara lacks permanent legal status, he has work authorization and is pursuing a green card through his U.S. citizen son.

Newsweek: ICE deports Army sergeant’s wife—”They’re taking Shirly”

The wife of a U.S. Army sergeant was detained in March by federal immigration agents outside her workplace in Texas before being deported to Honduras last month.

This case, first highlighted by the nonprofit military news outlet The War Horse, highlights the impact of immigration enforcement on U.S. military families, which lack guaranteed protection from detention or deportation. According to the advocacy group Fwd.us, as many as 80,000 undocumented spouses or parents of military personnel may currently reside in the United States.

Military Parole in Place is a discretionary program that allows undocumented spouses, parents, or children of U.S. military members—including active-duty, Selected Reserve, or honorably discharged veterans—to remain in the country temporarily and avoid deportation. It also provides a lawful entry record (“parole”) that can help eligible individuals apply for a green card without leaving the U.S.

Guardado entered the U.S. without authorization in 2014 at age 16. She was apprehended at the border and issued an expedited removal order. After later marrying Correa, she sought legal residency through a process available to immediate relatives of active-duty service members.

According to Mother Jones and FOX 26 Houston, Correa’s petition was approved in 2023 by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), but the existing removal order complicated the case.

On March 13, 2025, Guardado was asked to step outside her office by individuals identifying themselves as Department of Public Safety officers. She was instead detained by ICE and transported to a detention facility in Conroe, Texas. Correa was not immediately notified and only learned her location after three days, when Guardado contacted him from detention.

2paragraphs: U.S. Senator Accuses Pete Hegseth of Lying About Hiring MAGA Civilians, “This Is Outrageous”

When Murray said “the Navy needs welders, not people who can recite a president’s executive orders,” Hegseth sought to reassure the Senator, saying “there’s never been a litmus test for hiring welders.”

This week, Murray obtained a copy of Hegseth’s “hiring merit plan” and questionnaire which includes the query, “How would you help advance the President’s Executive Orders and policy priorities in this role? Identify one or two relevant Executive Orders or policy initiatives that are significant to you, and explain how you would help implement them if hired.”

Murray responded to Hegseth’s Pentagon litmus test questionnaire, saying: “This is outrageous.”
