President Donald Trump threatened Chicago with his newly-renamed “Department of War” on Saturday, prompting anger from city and state officials who have been preparing for a looming deployment of National Guard troops to the city for weeks.
“‘I love the smell of deportations in the morning…’ Chicago is about to find out why it’s called the Department of War,” Trump’s post on Truth Social said, accompanied by what appeared to be an AI-generated depiction of himself as Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore from the 1979 Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now. The words “Chicopolyse Now” were emblazoned on the image, a reference to Apocalypse Now, and the background showed a burning city and helicopters flying away.
The post prompted anger from state and city officials. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called Trump a “wannabe dictator” and took the post as a threat to “go to war” with Chicago.
“The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city,” Pritzker wrote on X. “This is not a joke. This is not normal.”
“Donald Trump isn’t a strongman, he’s a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator,” he added.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson accused Trump of “authoritarianism.”
“The President’s threats are beneath the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our Constitution,” he wrote on X.
The post follows Trump’s Friday executive order that rebranded the Department of Defense as the Department of War, a move the president claimed sent “a message of strength.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said during the press conference Friday that the name indicates the department is “going to go on offense, not just on defense. Maximum lethality, not tepid legality. Violent effect, not politically correct.”
Trump’s threats against Chicago follow his decision to federalize D.C.’s police department and deploy National Guard troops on the streets on Aug. 11, citing violent crime—even though data showed that violent crime in the nation’s capital had already been declining significantly. Since then, the President has threatened similar deployments in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore, and Oakland.
Johnson and Pritzker have both been staunchly opposed to Trump’s threats of federal intervention. Last weekend, Johnson signed an executive order directing the city’s police force not to cooperate with federal agents in a potential crackdown on crime and immigration.
“We will protect our constitution. We will protect our city. And we will protect our people. We do not want to see tanks in our streets. We do not want to see families ripped apart,” Johnson said as he announced his executive order.
Pritzker has said that he will “absolutely” sue Trump and the federal government if he actually does deploy troops, adding to the multiple lawsuits already filed by Chicago against the President since his return to office in January.

Daily Beast: Trump, 79, Ends Bedtime Truth Social Rant by Yelling Two Words
Rumors of the president’s death escalated over the weekend.
Donald Trump ended his proof of life Truth Social posting spree with a two-word and triple exclamation point sign off, “GOOD NIGHT!!!”
The 79-year-old president assured his MAGA followers and Never Trumpers he had “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE” after a debate raged online about his health.
Rumors of his death escalated over the weekend after Trump had not been seen in public for most of the week, speculation fueled by his mysterious bruised hands and bulging cankles.
Trump’s health update responded to a post that said, “Joe Biden would go multiple days at a time without any public appearances and the media would say he’s `sharp’ and `top of his game’… Meanwhile he was wearing diapers and napping.”
Trump swamped his Truth Social account on Saturday with AI-generated content, and returned to the familiar ground of crime and all caps on Sunday.
He mentioned his crackdown in Washington twice in a row, posting, “DC IS NOW A CRIME FREE ZONE, IN JUST 12 DAYS!!! President DJT.”
Trump then shared what he claimed were crime stats from a “list I get every single day,” documenting the number of arrests made, offenses, and how many firearms were seized. He posted that there was one arrest over “assault on a federal officer and threats to the President.”
Switching topics, the president reposted a letter from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, which supported Lisa D. Cook. Trump has accused Cook of mortgage fraud in his attempt to get her fired from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
“We also see a troubling pattern of efforts to discredit leaders and experts who are eminently qualified and prepared to lead and to serve,” the letter from International President Cheryl W. Turner noted.
Trump ranted, “This is a total Conflict of Interest. The Judge must RECUSE, IMMEDIATELY!!! President DJT.” He also found time to slam U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb, who blocked his fast-deportation process.
“Same Judge as on Fed Case,” Trump posted. “I wonder how that happened??? Must recuse!!! President DJT.”
He then pivoted to another presidential passion project, the mean streets of Chicago, shouting, “CRIME IS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL IN CHICAGO. 6 DEAD, 24 BADLY WOUNDED, LAST WEEK ALONE!!!”
Speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the president had not ruled out potentially deploying National Guard troops in Chicago.
“That always is a prerogative of President Trump,” Noem said.
Just before he logged off for the night, Trump found time to return to his beloved tariffs, claiming they would bring “more than 15 trillion dollars” into the U.S.
He stated, “If a Radical Left Court is allowed to terminate these Tariffs, almost all of this investment, and much more, will be immediately cancelled! In many ways, we would become a Third World Nation, with no hope of GREATNESS again. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!! President DJT.”
His concerns follow the U.S. Court of Appeals ruling on Friday that most of his tariffs are illegal. They found that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) statute used by Trump to impose international tariffs did not “explicitly include the power to impose tariffs.”
After that, the president tapped out with his “GOOD NIGHT!!!” post.
But is the creepster still alive?
Daily Beast: Tongue-Tied Johnson Stumbles as Newsom Rubs in Louisiana’s Higher Crime Rates
The California governor called out President Trump for only sending federal troops to blue states, despite red states having more crime.
House Speaker Mike Johnson stumbled through his response after California Gov. Gavin Newsom pointed out that crime in Johnson’s home state of Louisiana is several times worse than in the Golden State.
Johnson spoke haltingly after he was played a clip Friday on Fox and Friends of Newsom pointing out that the murder rate in Louisiana is “nearly four times higher” than in California.
“Gavin Newsom will do anything for attention. He can name-drop me all, all,” Johnson stammered, “that he wants. He needs to go and govern his state and not be engaging in all of this.”
“We have crime,” he stuttered, “in cities across America.”
He added that his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, has “done a great job of reducing crime, gradually,” and said it was import to address crime “everywhere that it rears its ugly head.”
“I think every major city in the country—the residents of those cities are open to that, and anxious to have it,” he said.
Crime rates in red and blue states have come under fresh scrutiny after President Donald Trump ordered thousands of National Guard troops into Democratic-led cities like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.—with Chicago next on his list.
The administration claims the deployments are necessary to “liberate” residents of those cities from crime, which they say has turned American streets in war zones.
Johnson’s office did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Democratic governors, however, have argued the deployments have nothing to do with public safety, since Trump isn’t sending in troops to the states with the highest crime rates—which happen to be controlled by Republicans.
“If he is to invest in crime suppression, I hope the president of the United States would look at the facts,” Newsom said during a press conference on Thursday. “Just consider Speaker Johnson’s state and district. Just look at the murder rate that’s nearly four times higher than California in Louisiana.”
The vast majority of Americans do not approve of the president sending in soldiers to quell local crime. A Quinnipiac University poll released this week found that just 41 percent of respondents approved of Trump posting the National Guard in Washington, D.C., to fight crime.
Those troops have not been trained in local law enforcement, and the crackdown has wreaked havoc on the courts as judges are flooded with cases involving trumped-up charges.
And despite Trump’s claims that Washington is as dangerous as a third-world city, soldiers in the nation’s capital have been picking up trash and spreading mulch to pass the time.
An analysis by Axios found that 13 of the top 20 cities with the highest homicide rates were located in states with Republican governors. At the state level, eight of the top 10 states with the highest murder rates are red states.
CNN: A Trump-favored MAGA network praised an increase in women soldiers. Its images were fake
Wednesday evening on the MAGA cable channel OAN, as Defense Department spokeswoman Kingsley Wilson gushed to host Matt Gaetz about an alleged year-over-year increase in female military recruits, four images of women soldiers in combat fatigues were displayed on-screen.
All four images were AI fakes.
The images appear to have been generated using Elon Musk’s Grok, as small watermarks in the bottom corners seem to indicate.
“These numbers are fantastic,” Wilson told Gaetz as the AI images scrolled on-screen. “Under the previous administration, we had about 16,000 female recruits last year; now we’ve got upwards of 24,000,” she continued. “It is a testament to Secretary Hegseth and President Trump’s leadership.” (The Pentagon has not officially released detailed data on female recruitment, but it told Fox News those same figures.)
A DOD spokesperson said the images were not provided by them, so CNN asked OAN whether its staff generated the photos and if the network has any policy regarding AI-generated content. The far-right network did not respond.
OAN, short for One America News, launched in 2013, and during Trump’s first administration, it quickly morphed into a conspiracy-heavy, MAGA-boosting outlet.
The little-watched cable channel has become best-known for promoting Trump’s 2020 election lies, and it has settled multiple defamation lawsuits resulting from those on-air claims. Last year, the network settled a lawsuit from voting technology company Smartmatic alleging the channel boosted the election lies in order to “increase viewership and revenue.”
The network also settled a defamation suit from a Dominion Voting Systems executive, but it still faces a separate defamation lawsuit from the company.
OAN’s viewership and revenue have dwindled since DirecTV dropped it in 2022. However, earlier this year, it received a PR boost when Kari Lake, Trump’s pick to run a hollowed-out Voice of America, claimed that OAN will provide “newsfeed services” to VOA and other US-funded international broadcasters.
MAGA = one big lie after another

Independent: Trump border czar reacts after Indy 500 track boss demands end to ‘Speedway Slammer’ moniker for new migrant detention center
Penske Entertainment said it preferred that its ‘IP not be utilized moving forward in relation to this matter’
… On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X: “COMING SOON to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer. Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds. Thanks to @GovBraun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self deport now using the @CBP Home App.”/
…
On Wednesday, Penske Entertainment, the owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, said the company did not want its intellectual property used alongside the detention center.
“We were unaware of plans to incorporate our imagery as part of the announcement,” the company told IndyStar in a statement. “Consistent with our approach to public policy and political issues, we are communicating our preference that our IP not be utilized moving forward in relation to this matter.”
Trump is the first AI slop president. That’s not good for democracy.
The White House has become a superspreader of AI-generated videos.
Franklin Roosevelt mastered the use of radio. John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan were top of the game on TV. And Donald Trump is the first AI slop president.
Since January, Trump’s administration has used artificial intelligence to churn out a steady stream of fake images on social media, from alligators in ICE hats to crying members of Congress, while the official White House account on X has used it to portray the president as Superman, the pope and a villain from “Star Wars.”
Earlier this week, Trump used his account on his personal social media platform, Truth Social, to share an AI-generated clip showing former President Barack Obama being forcibly detained by the FBI. As bizarre as it was, it fit in with his other nonsensical memes, which included various Democrats in orange prison jumpsuits as the “Shady Bunch” and a fake-looking video of a woman in a bikini catching a snake with her bare hands.
There’s a term for someone using social media this way that can’t be repeated in polite company, so let’s just call it slop-posting. It’s usually done by a 14-year-old boy, or someone who still acts like one, and it’s mostly just absurd or mildly offensive. It’s not harmless, necessarily, but it’s mostly just lame trolling.
To suggest that our President has the maturity of a 14-year-old boy is generous. Let’s not insult the kids, most of whom are more mature and better behaved than King Donald.
But when the president does it, it’s something else entirely. Even in the most harmless AI-generated memes, Trump is muddying the waters on what is real, encouraging his supporters to believe everything and nothing. Did a woman in a bikini really catch a snake? Is Obama really going to be arrested? To a Trump supporter steeped in these memes, the answer may not even matter.

Mediaite: Fox Reports Tulsi Gabbard Sent a ‘Criminal Referral’ For Obama Officials to the DOJ
Fox News digital reported on Monday that it received confirmation from the Department of Justice “that it has received Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s criminal referral” to probe Obama-era officials for “manufactured and politicized intelligence” regarding the Trump-Russia probe.
Last week, Gabbard declassified documents, which were quickly reported on by Fox, which she claims implicate former President Barack Obama in the widespread allegations that Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the election.
Trump famously publicly called on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails in a speech during the campaign, which Russia did later do and leaked online.
Earlier on Monday, as Trump continues to grapple with fallout from his administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, the president posted an AI-generated clip of the FBI arresting Obama in the Oval Office. In the clip, Obama is brought to his knees and handcuffed in front of a seat and smiling Trump.
Trump has long raged against what he calls the “Russia hoax” despite a Republican-led Senate investigation into claims of Russian collusion finding Russia did attempt to interfere with the election and had contact with the Trump campaign.
The Senate panel investigating the election published a 1,000-page report in 2020, which found “Russia launched an aggressive effort to interfere in the election on Trump’s behalf,” reported the AP at the time.
The report added that “the Trump campaign chairman had regular contact with a Russian intelligence officer and says other Trump associates were eager to exploit the Kremlin’s aid, particularly by maximizing the impact of the disclosure of Democratic emails hacked by Russian intelligence officers.”
Another delirious Trumpster lost in Lalaland! Wherever does he find all these sycophantic whack jobs?

Newsweek: Trump admin shares meme of ICE alligators outside Florida prison
The Trump regime’s Carnival of Cruelty continues!

The Department of Homeland Security has shared an apparently AI-generated meme depicting alligators as ICE agents outside of a Florida detention center.
“Alligator Alcatraz” is a new migrant detention center being developed on a remote airstrip in the Everglades. The facility aims to house up to 5,000 detainees and uses the area’s natural isolation and wildlife as part of its security measures.
“Coming soon!” DHS said in a post on X.
…
The remote facility is expected to cost Florida approximately $450 million annually to operate. The proposal comes as President Donald Trump‘s administration looks to conduct what it describes as the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history.
Critics say that the center’s remote location and rapid deployment raise ethical and legal questions about the treatment of migrants, transparency, and due process. Supporters say the project is a cost-efficient step to handle increased immigration enforcement.
The image shared by DHS shows alligators wearing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) baseball caps outside the fences of the detention center.
The meme and plans have sparked outrage from critics over inhumane conditions and concerns from environmental groups.
“A horrendous lack of humanity,” Georgetown lecturer Brett Bruen, who served as director of global engagement during the Obama administration, said in a post on X.
Former CIA officer Christopher Burgess described the post as “Disgusting.”
