Guardian: Trump officials ‘created confrontation’ that led to arrest of Newark mayor

Democratic Congress members who visited detention center with mayor say Ice officials ‘created the chaos’

Trump administration homeland security officials were responsible for starting the confrontation on Friday at a New Jersey immigration jail that led to the arrest of Newark’s mayor as well as threats to detain three members of Congress, the representatives said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.

The Democratic representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman, LaMonica McIver and Rob Menendez – all of New Jersey – visited the controversial Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) detention center known as Delaney Hall on Friday to inspect the facility. As they waited to enter Delaney Hall, Newark’s mayor, Ras Baraka, arrived – and as he left the property, he was arrested outside by Ice officials accusing him of trespassing, leading to a commotion at the entrance of the jail.

There evidently was shoving and pushing between federal immigration officials and the members of Congress, which Watson Coleman, McIver and Menendez blamed on the immigration officials.

On CNN’s State of the Union, the Congress members said immigration officials had ample opportunity to deescalate the situation before someone called in and instructed masked agents to arrest Baraka.

“They created that confrontation, they created that chaos,” McIver said.

Since the ordeal on Friday at Delaney Hall, homeland security officials have accused the Congress members of staging a “bizarre political stunt” there while also accusing McIver of “bodyslamming” authorities at the scene.

McIver rejected those allegations.

“I honestly do not know how to bodyslam anyone,” McIver said. “There’s no video that supports me bodyslamming anyone.

“We were simply there to do our job – there for an oversight visit.”

Mediaite: Alina Habba [Bimbo #4] Hails Arrest of ‘Grandstanding’ Democratic Mayor at ICE Detention Facility

Newark Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on Friday for allegedly trespassing at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in the city.

Shortly afterward, Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba phoned into Fox News to gloat about it.

Baraka and three New Jersey Democratic members of Congress – Rep. Monica McIver, Rep. Bob Menendez Jr., and Bonnie Watson Coleman – visited the facility, Delaney Hall, which is anticipated will hold 1,000 immigrants. Habba tweeted about Baraka’s arrest and claimed the mayor was trespassing.

“The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon,” she wrote. “He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”

I’ve seen the video, you lying bitch. He was arrested OUTSIDE the perimeter, and all 3 members of Congress were assaulted by ICE’s thugs.

The only “Grandstander” here is Alina Habba, Bimbo #4.

The more we see of ICE, the worse it gets.

Independent: ‘Fed up’ crowd in Massachusetts swarms ICE agents attempting to arrest mother

Worcester locals formed a ‘human ring’ around the mother and her two children before cops ‘slammed’ her teen daughter’s face into the ground

Despicable ICE pigs!

Harrowing new video footage reveals the moment a mob of angry Massachusetts residents descended on federal immigration agents and attempted to thwart their operation to detain a woman with her family.

Neighbors spotted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials intercepting a mother who was with her teen daughter and her newborn baby at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday on Eureka Street in Worcester. The father was detained by ICE on Wednesday, according to the local immigration justice network LUCE.

The arrests come just weeks after ICE’s acting Director Todd Lyons announced the agency had been preparing for a second “surge” in arrests in the Greater Boston area, amid President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

The dramatic video footage, which has since gone viral online, was captured by a witness at the scene and shows the woman clinging to her infant child as ICE agents attempt to arrest her.

A swarm of 25 locals gathered, with one heard demanding to see identification and a warrant and calling to stop the chaos. “We don’t have to show you anything,” an ICE agent reportedly told the crowd.

Arrogant asshole PIG! No warrant, no arrest!

Immigration officials called upon officers from the Worcester police for backup, with the department describing in a statement how the “unruly” crowd “put their hands on federal agents and Worcester officers.”

Local police should quit providing backup to ICE’s thugs.

Los Angeles Times: ‘Even the cops don’t like us anymore’: Under Trump, ICE is despised and divided

Poor crybabies!

Across the nation, ICE has never seemed more visible, especially as anger continues over the separation of immigrant families at the border under the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy. Protesters have rallied across the U.S., demanding that the agency be abolished — calls that have been echoed by politicians. Earlier this month, WikiLeaks published the identities and information of more than 9,000 supposed current and former ICE employees.

Being an ICE agent has always come with challenges. The agency has faced criticism for years from immigration activists, including during the uptick in immigration enforcement during the Obama administration.

But Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration has made ICE much more of a target. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf won praise from many of her constituents and criticism from the White House earlier this year when she alerted her city to upcoming ICE raids.

Many California police departments have longstanding policies against working with ICE to arrest suspects on immigration charges. But since Trump took office, California has enacted even tougher “sanctuary state” policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration officials even more, and that has heightened the strains.

Recently, “Occupy ICE” protests have sprung up across the nation. In Portland, Ore., protesters were able to shut down an ICE facility for at least a week.

On Saturday, hundreds of coordinated rallies were scheduled around the country to protest Trump’s zero tolerance policy, which has resulted in the separation of more than 2,000 children from their parents or guardians crossing the border.

This week, Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) stated that he plans to introduce legislation to eliminate ICE. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who beat Rep. Joe Crowley, the House Democratic Caucus chair, in New York’s Democratic primary, ran on a platform that called for the abolition of the agency.

And this is total bullshit:

ICE “fully respects the Constitutional rights of all people to peacefully express their opinions,” ICE said in a statement. “That being said, ICE remains committed to performing its immigration enforcement mission consistent with federal law and agency policy.”

Just ask all the students who are being deported for espousing pro-Palestinian views.

Raw Story: ICE officers whine that everyone hates them now: ‘Even the cops don’t like us anymore’

As ye sew, so shall ye reap!

I can’t blame them. Seriously, I don’t like you either!

Agents who work for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement in California have found that they’re so unpopular even other law enforcement officers want nothing to do with them, the Los Angeles Times reports.

In the Times story, ICE agents complain that people are calling the police on them as they try to operate—or even when they try to get coffee in the city.

“Even the cops don’t like us anymore because they’re listening to the news also,” said an ICE agent who the Times allowed to remain anoymous. “ ‘Oh you guys are just separating families.’ ”

You asked for it!

You got it!]

Newsweek: Iraq War Veteran in US for Nearly 30 Years Can Be Deported: Judge

An Arizona resident who has lived in the U.S. legally for decades―and even fought a war for the country―may be deported, after an immigration judge’s ruling on Friday.

Iraq War veteran Marlon Parris, who moved to the U.S. from the Caribbean in 1997 and was repeatedly issued Green Cards, was detained in January earlier this year.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) had previously ruled the Green Card holder should be allowed to stay in the U.S. despite serving prison time for a drugs offense back in 2011 because the crime was nonviolent.

However, airport officials confiscated his Green Card in 2023 when he returned from a vacation abroad with his wife. Parris was still embroiled in the legal process to have his card returned when he was unexpectedly pulled over in his car by ICE officials in January, who reportedly told him he was “on a list” to be detained and he now faces deportation.

The 2011 decision should be honored. It is grossly unfair to do otherwise 14 years later.

BBC: New Jersey mayor arrested for protesting at migrant centre

The mayor of New Jersey’s largest city has been arrested after allegedly trying to force his way into a migrant detention facility.

Newark Mayor Ras Barak, who is running for New Jersey governor, “committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings”, to leave Delaney Hall, a detention facility being run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to acting US attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba.

Barak was accompanied by three Democratic members of Congress, who were not arrested. They say they were there to conduct “oversight” to ensure that the facility is not violating any building safety ordinances.

It is unclear whether Barak faces criminal charges.

New Jersey’s Democratic Governor Phil Murphy said he was “outraged” by Baraka’s arrest and called for him to be immediately released.

New Jersey Democratic lawmakers Rob Menendez Jr, Bonnie Watson Coleman and LaMonica McIver were also present during the protest.

City officials allege the private firm that signed a contract with ICE did not obtain proper permits and blocked necessary inspections. The firm has told media they haver the proper permits.

Earlier on Friday, Congresswoman Watson Coleman posted on social media: “We’re at Delaney Hall, an ICE prison in Newark that opened without permission from the city & in violation of local ordinances.

Guardian: Irish woman detained by US immigration released after 17 days in custody

An Irish woman who was detained by US immigration authorities because of a criminal record dating back almost 20 years has been released after 17 days in custody.

Cliona Ward, 54, who has lived legally in the US for decades, emerged on Wednesday from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) facility at Tacoma in Washington.

After visiting her sick father in Ireland she had been detained at San Francisco airport on 21 April, causing an outcry in Ireland and the US and a campaign for her release.

Last week a California judge agreed to an application for the original convictions to be formally overturned in a manner that would be recognised at a federal level, paving the way for her release, according to Ward’s lawyers.

The incarceration left Ward traumatised but she was thankful for the support and is now recuperating, her sister, Orla Holladay, wrote on a GoFundMe page. “Cliona is finally in her own bed and we are all ready for some quiet and reflection.”

Associated Press: Cuban mother deported from US pleads with Trump to reunite with her family

Cuban-born Sánchez, 44, was detained in Florida in April during a routine check-in appointment at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, office. Two days later, she was deported to Cuba.

A breastfeeding mother to a 1-year-old and wife of a U.S. citizen, Sánchez is pleading with U.S. President Donald Trump to help her go back and reunite with her family.

Meanwhile, in Florida, Sánchez’s 40-year-old husband is grappling with the sudden reality of being a single parent.

He recounted a moment when Kailyn didn’t want to sleep and her mom, on a video call, suggested she sing her a song to help put her to bed.

“When she started to sing, the girl began reaching out to touch the screen to caress her mother’s face,” he said. “She began to kiss the screen…I started crying and so did her mother.”

Valle is also concerned about his future, missing work to care for their child and fearing he’ll be unable to keep up with his house and car payments.

The family and their lawyers are launching a campaign to collect signatures in support of a humanitarian visa for Sánchez, and Tampa Rep. Kathy Castor has requested her parole from the Trump administration.

Dallas Morning News: 2 US citizen children deported to Mexico along with their mother, attorney says

Two U.S. citizen children were deported Wednesday morning to Mexico along with their mother, according to an attorney who has consulted with the family.

Cori Hash, a senior staff attorney with Immigrant Legal Resource Center, told The Dallas Morning News on Wednesday that the family was detained last week near the campus of Dobie Middle School in North Austin.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers stopped the family on the morning of Wednesday, April 30, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained the man. The woman was not detained but was informed to go to an ICE facility in San Antonio the next day. It’s not clear how many of their children were in the car, Hash said.

The man and woman are not married, Hash said, but have been together several years and have three children together. The children are 8, 5 and 4 years old and the two youngest are U.S. citizens, Hash said. The man was deported on Tuesday. The woman and her three children were deported Wednesday morning, Hash said.

Hash asked that the man and woman not be identified to avoid putting them at risk.

“They had no due process whatsoever,” Hash said. “It just goes to show that this administration feels that it can deport U.S. citizens whenever it wishes and however it wishes.”
