She warned that the bill will lead to increased ICE enforcement and negatively impact vulnerable communities.

Ocasio-Cortez strongly criticized the passage of Trump’s bill, particularly condemning its provisions related to ICE. Ocasio-Cortez warned of a potential “explosion” in ICE’s operations.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that the expansion of ICE would create a situation far worse than the current one, emphasizing that it has made the agency larger than the FBI, DEA, U.S. Bureau of Prisons, and other federal agencies combined.

Ocasio-Cortez stated, “I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.” She added, “This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion.”

Ocasio-Cortez condemned the bill for its lack of safeguards and expressed dismay at how it may harm vulnerable individuals. She said, “People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.”

Newsweek: Workers flee taco truck in California amid ICE raids

A popular taco truck in Southern California was temporarily abandoned after employees fled the business over fears federal immigration agents were close by, according to NBC4 Los Angeles.

An employee told NBC 4 Los Angeles that the workers ran off on Saturday after noticing what they described as a suspicious vehicle and receiving a tip about federal immigration agents within the area.

“We only saw the car and that’s all. Before we could see them, we left,” Miguel Romero, a chef at the business, told the outlet.

The business was left deserted, with warm plates of food, untouched drinks, and cash still sitting in the register. The name of the business is not known.

Four employees were in the truck at the time of the incident before they all ran away.

Just hours earlier, the truck had been busy with customers until reports emerged of ICE agents conducting enforcement operations in the area.

The business closed for the day following the incident, per NBC4 Los Angeles. None of the employees were detained by ICE agents.

“It’s getting complicated because we can’t work properly,” Romero told the outlet.

A prominent immigration expert was horrified at the latest report on how Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are going about their jobs.

The incident, caught on an Instagram reel, took place in San Diego, California, at a courthouse where numerous people awaited an immigration hearing. ICE showed up to arrest people who were following the legal process.

In the video, an ICE officer told an attorney, who was explaining that some of her clients included a family with health issues, to choose which of her clients would be arrested and which would be spared to get their hearing.

“I’m not picky so I’m giving you the options cause I have to take one. If not I’ll take all,” the officer says.

“This is dystopian,” said immigration attorney and American Immigration Council senior fellow Aaron Reichlin-Melnick. “An ICE officer explains he was ordered to arrest migrants at their court hearings — even those with pending cases. Then he asks an attorney to make a Sophie’s Choice.”

USA Today: ‘Catch and revoke’: New policy means zero tolerance for visa holders

The Trump administration has a tough new message for foreigners in the United States: One strike, and you’re out.

Foreign nationals visiting or living in the country legally could lose their visa status if they run afoul of the law under the new and unforgiving so-called “catch and revoke” policy, announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“There is now a one-strike policy: Catch-And-Revoke,” Rubio said in a social media post on May 2. “Whenever the government catches non-U.S. citizens breaking our laws, we will take action to revoke their status.”

But:

David Bier, director of immigration studies at the libertarian Cato Institute, called the new policy “absurd” and contrary to U.S. immigration law.

“Wealthy, skilled people with other options will not settle in a country where their lives can be ruined for a speeding ticket or operating an illegal lemonade stand,” he said in a post on X.

Outrageous:

Most recently, the administration aggressively targeted student visa holders who have protested Israel’s war in Gaza or voiced pro-Palestinian views. Students with minor violations, including traffic infractions, have also seen their visas terminated.

“They stripped student visas from people for speeding tickets,” said Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, senior fellow at the American Immigration Council, in a post on X. “Now they’re suggesting they’ll do the same to everyone.”
