Miami Herald: DHS Uses Terms ‘Alien’ and ‘Illegal’ Despite Backlash

“The message that ICE is sending to immigrants and their communities by changing the phrasing is that they are going to treat such persons not as human beings but as criminals.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has maintained its use of the term “alien” when referring to noncitizens, pointing to statutory requirements. The decision has sparked backlash over the Trump administration’s language regarding immigration policy, with critics claiming that such terminology dehumanizes individuals. DHS officials have defended the usage as consistent with existing laws. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) guidance directs staff to use “alien” and “alienage,” replacing Biden-era “noncitizen” terminology.

DHS stated, “‘Undocumented immigrant’ is the immigration equivalent of ‘they/them.’ DHS has no interest in the left’s open borders pronouns. ‘Alien’ is the technical legal term, and that is what DHS will use.”

DHS added, “‘Illegal’ is the only way to correctly describe lawbreakers. Next thing you know you will be calling burglars ‘undocumented houseguests.’ ‘Alien’ is the technical legal term, and that is what DHS will use.”

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) updated its policy manual to match the terminology, reflecting statutes that use “aliens” for admissibility, deportation, crimes, and public benefits eligibility.

Critics said the change stigmatizes immigrants and hints at harsher treatment, while supporters have argued it aligns with U.S. Code and clarifies program language. Immigration advocates have continued advocating for “noncitizen” or “undocumented” terminology, despite the changes.

Immigration Lawyer Hector Díaz said, “The message that ICE is sending to immigrants and their communities by changing the phrasing is that they are going to treat such persons not as human beings but as criminals.”

Miami Herald: ‘It’s Outrageous’: Lawsuit Targets Alleged ICE Violations

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reportedly detained Canton resident Jemmy Lindsay Jimenez Rosa over a decades-old marijuana conviction, sparking backlash due to her need for medication and certain necessities. Attorney Todd Pomerleau has challenged the plea, and a Massachusetts judge later dismissed the conviction. Rosa, 42, had been stopped and questioned by officers while returning from a family trip.

Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said, “Under Secretary Noem, we are delivering on President Trump’s and the American people’s mandate to arrest and deport criminal illegal aliens to make America safe. Secretary Noem unleashed ICE to target the worst of the worst and carry out the largest deportation operation of criminal aliens in American history.”

Rosa’s husband, Marcel Rosa, is a U.S. citizen. He noted that he had presented their passports and her renewed green card upon arrival.

Marcel said, “I walked in, and my wife’s head was just down, and you could tell her whole spirit was just crushed.” He added, “I just told my kids, I was like, hey girls… this might be the last time you see your mother.”

Pomerleau said he was first denied access and that Rosa needed hospital care during detention. He argued she lacked proper counsel when pleading to misdemeanor possession and sought to vacate the conviction.

Pomerleau stated, “The judge and prosecutor were shocked at the way she had been treated.” He added, “It’s outrageous … beyond the pale. These are people that have been in the system their whole lives, who have great jobs and pay taxes.”

A judge and prosecutor dismissed the case in state court, clearing her record. Despite the dismissal, federal authorities transferred her to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility where she has been able to contact family and counsel.

The family said the detention has traumatized the children and noted Rosa’s health conditions. Pomerleau has filed a lawsuit over due-process violations, and a bond hearing is set for later in August.

Miami Herald: FEMA’s $64 Million Cut to NYC Sparks Fury

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has condemned the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s $64 million cut to New York City’s security funding following a Manhattan shooting. Washington, D.C. has experienced a 44% reduction in funding, as cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles are also facing funding cuts. NYC Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly working to maximize federal resources amid the Trump administration’s widespread cuts to federal agency budgets.

Schumer stated that President Donald Trump “treats NY like his personal punching bag in an attempt to settle political scores — and failing to release NY’s critical anti-terrorism funds is stooping to a new low.”

New York Mayor Eric Adams’ spokesperson Liz Garcia said, “We are committed to securing every federal dollar that New Yorkers deserve.”

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) plans to question Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, warning that political motives may risk public safety. She stated, “I would ask Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem about the funding cuts, adding that it is possible the agency is risking New Yorkers’ safety as a political power move.”

Amid the fight for security funding, NYC Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has come under fire for reportedly spending over $33,000 on private security throughout his campaign. Critics condemned the spending, citing his 2020 calls to defund the police.

In 2020, Mamdani wrote, “We don’t need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti‑queer & a major threat to public safety. What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD. But your compromise uses budget tricks to keep as many cops as possible on the beat. NO to fake cuts – defund the police.” He added, “We need a socialist city council to defund the police.”

Mamdani added, “The New York City Council tried to make the NYPD reduce its overtime budget by half. They simply refused. There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked & corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it. End the cycle of violence.”

Miami Herald: ‘False Narrative’: DOJ Addresses Operation in California

ICE’s bully boys will always spin it their way, throwing in a few lies as needed, but their credibility these days likes somewhere between nebulous and nil. At the end of the day, what’s going to matter is what the surgical center employees thought was happening, and whether their interpretation of the situation was reasonable.

ICE should have secured the perimeter, made sure they had a valid JUDICIAL warrant SIGED BY A JUDGE, and then used their negotiating skills to resolve the matter. Unfortunately tact and negotiating skills are lacking in the skillsets of most bully boys, and ICE is no exception.

Honduran national Denis Guillen-Solis reportedly sought refuge in an Ontario, California, Surgery Center, evading law enforcement authorities. Staff allegedly obstructed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation seeking his arrest, leading to the detention of a staff member, while another remains at large. The incident has since triggered legal actions against the staff allegedly involved in interfering with federal officers.

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said, “This story is another example of a false narrative peddled by irresponsible members of the media in furtherance of a political agenda to delegitimize federal agents. The illegal alien arrested inside the medical center was not a patient and was not in any way affiliated with that location. He ran inside for cover and these medical workers attempted to block his apprehension by assaulting our agents.”

Essayli added, “To be very clear, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you work, if you assault our agents or otherwise interfere with our operations, you will be arrested and charged with a federal crime.”

Criminal warrants were issued for Jose De Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila on charges of forcibly assaulting, impeding, and interfering with a federal officer.

Clinic staff reportedly locked doors, blocked law enforcement vehicles, and falsely reported a kidnapping. Davila allegedly physically confronted an ICE officer during the disruption.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated, “ICE officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation to arrest two illegal aliens. Officers in clearly marked ICE bulletproof vests approached the illegal alien targets as they exited a vehicle.”

California Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez called the ICE operation “devastating” for the community. She reaffirmed her commitment to integrity as federal authorities have addressed ongoing tensions in the region.

Rodriguez said, “It is devastating to watch the impact of ICE on our communities. This past Tuesday, Immigration Enforcement officers kidnapped constituents from a surgical center as they were doing their jobs.”

Miami Herald: ‘Locking People in a Swamp’: Trump Addresses Detention Center Outrage

Last month, President Donald Trump attended the opening of Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center, led by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. The facility has been designed to hold illegal immigrants awaiting deportation, costing an estimated $450 million annually.

Critics have warned that the flood-prone wetland site will fail to provide adequate humanitarian conditions.

State Sen. Shevrin Jones (D) said, “They are locking people in a swamp in extreme heat with no clear plan for humane conditions.”

Trump stated, “It might be as good as the real Alcatraz.” He added, “It’s a little controversial, but I couldn’t care less.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said, “Welcome to Alligator Alcatraz, I like that name by the way.” Environmental groups have sued to block the center, citing violations and risks to wildlife habitats.

Democrats and advocates have criticized the project for threatening local ecosystems. Friends of the Everglades Executive Director Eve Samples said, “This site is more than 96% wetlands, surrounded by the Big Cypress National Preserve, and is habitat for the endangered Florida panther and other iconic species.”

Samples added, “This scheme is not only cruel, it threatens the Everglades ecosystem that state and federal taxpayers have spent billions to protect.”

DeSantis and Florida Republicans have defended the center as key to Trump’s tough immigration stance, arguing his policies have deterred illegal crossings. They warned migrants of Florida’s extreme weather risks.

Miami Herald: ‘Outright Lie’: Trump DHS Responds to ICE Criticism

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has pledged to prosecute those involved in doxing or violence against officers. Noem wrote, “We will prosecute those who dox ICE agents to the fullest extent of the law. These criminals are taking the side of vicious cartels and human traffickers.” She added, “We won’t allow it in America.”

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin noted that department leaders have supported measures to protect ICE personnel. McLaughlin said, “ICE law enforcement are succeeding to remove terrorists, murderers, pedophiles and the most depraved among us from America’s communities, even as crazed rhetoric from gutter politicians are inspiring a massive increase in assaults against them. It is reprehensible that our officers are facing this threat while simply doing their jobs and enforcing the law.”

It’s really simple, bimbos: The reproduction of publicly available information is protected by the First Amendment. PERIOD. STOP. END OF SENTENCE.

If someone does his research on the internet and connects the dots on information available on public web sites, that information is public and can be freely shared.

Likewise, photography in a public place is also protected by the First Amendment. If someone happens to take a picture of one of your Gestapo ICE thugs in public, the taking and reproduction of that image is also protected by the First Amendment.

Suck it up, bitches! You’re on the losing side of this issue. The First Amendment rules!

The only “outright lies” here are coming from you and your cronies.

Miami Herald: Trump Nominee Wins Crucial 50-48 Senate Vote

Emil Bove, nominated by President Donald Trump for the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, fell under heavy scrutiny during his confirmation hearing. A DOJ official and Trump attorney, Bove rejected claims of being a “henchman” and defended his adherence to the rule of law. Bove drew criticism for dropping corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams and questioning FBI probes into the January 6 attack.

Bove’s nomination advanced past the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted 12-0. The Senate voted 50-48 to overcome a procedural hurdle, with Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski voting against and Senator Susan Collins expressing intent to oppose final confirmation. Bove awaits a final Senate confirmation vote for the lifetime judicial post.

Emil Bove is a Trump suck-up and a real creep. He’s the last person we want in the federal judiciary.

Miami Herald: ‘Tone Down’: Shots Fired at Border Patrol, Sparking Fury

A shooting at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, has prompted White House Press Secretary Karoline [Bimbo #1] Leavitt to urge Democratic lawmakers to moderate their criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported a nearly 700% increase in assaults on ICE officers. [Bimbo #1] Leavitt also called on progressive lawmakers to engage directly with ICE and CBP personnel to foster greater respect and understanding.

Your masked Gestapo thugs are getting the reception that they have earned.

Respect is earned, not accorded on demand. Your masked Gestapo thugs are coming up way short when it comes to earning respect.

[Bimbo #1] Leavitt added, “These are honorable Americans who are just simply trying to do their job to enforce the law. They go home to their families every night, just like we all do, and they deserve respect and dignity for trying to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and to remove public safety threats from our communities.”

There is nothing honorable about running around with masks on and kidnapping people. They are scum. They are pigs.

… Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said, “What is deranged and cruel and outrageous is that, literally, we are seeing ICE agents — I assume they‘re ICE agents. They say they are. They don‘t have any identification. They‘re wearing masks. They‘re in plain clothes. They are coming and kidnapping and disappearing people on the streets of the United States.”

Miami Herald: Here’s Hegseth’s Response to ‘Our Boys’ Fact Check

When asked about the fact check and his language, Hegseth responded, “I say our boys and bombers as a common phrase, I’ll keep saying things like that, whether they’re men or women. Very proud of that female pilot, just like I’m very proud of those male pilots and I don’t care if it’s a male or a female in that cockpit and the American people don’t care. But it’s the obsession with race and gender in this department that’s changed priorities and we don’t do that anymore. We don’t play your little games.”

So says the washed out O-3 turned Fox talk show host who can never give a straight answer to a question.

Miami Herald: Border Patrol Deployed Amid ICE Staffing Crisis

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is reportedly facing staffing issues, resulting in Border Patrol agents operating more in urban areas. Arrests at the border have dropped significantly to an average of around 280 per day from over 8,000 daily in late 2023. Border arrests are at a 60-year low, and ICE has allegedly struggled with staffing and operations, relying heavily on around 20,000 Border Patrol agents.

While in Los Angeles, Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino said, “We’re here and not going away.” Trump-backed legislation to expand ICE staffing has stalled, pushing ICE to depend on Border Patrol to reach its goal of 3,000 daily arrests.
