Miami Herald: Trump Nominee Wins Crucial 50-48 Senate Vote

Emil Bove, nominated by President Donald Trump for the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, fell under heavy scrutiny during his confirmation hearing. A DOJ official and Trump attorney, Bove rejected claims of being a “henchman” and defended his adherence to the rule of law. Bove drew criticism for dropping corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams and questioning FBI probes into the January 6 attack.

Bove’s nomination advanced past the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted 12-0. The Senate voted 50-48 to overcome a procedural hurdle, with Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski voting against and Senator Susan Collins expressing intent to oppose final confirmation. Bove awaits a final Senate confirmation vote for the lifetime judicial post.

When asked about the fact check and his language, Hegseth responded, “I say our boys and bombers as a common phrase, I’ll keep saying things like that, whether they’re men or women. Very proud of that female pilot, just like I’m very proud of those male pilots and I don’t care if it’s a male or a female in that cockpit and the American people don’t care. But it’s the obsession with race and gender in this department that’s changed priorities and we don’t do that anymore. We don’t play your little games.”

So says the washed out O-3 turned Fox talk show host who can never give a straight answer to a question.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is reportedly facing staffing issues, resulting in Border Patrol agents operating more in urban areas. Arrests at the border have dropped significantly to an average of around 280 per day from over 8,000 daily in late 2023. Border arrests are at a 60-year low, and ICE has allegedly struggled with staffing and operations, relying heavily on around 20,000 Border Patrol agents.

While in Los Angeles, Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino said, “We’re here and not going away.” Trump-backed legislation to expand ICE staffing has stalled, pushing ICE to depend on Border Patrol to reach its goal of 3,000 daily arrests.

President Donald Trump has directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to intensify deportations in Democrat-run cities. He called it the “largest Mass Deportation Program in History.” ICE, however, is reportedly falling short of the 3,000 daily arrest target set by the White House.

Nationwide “No Kings” protests have erupted against Trump’s immigration policies. In Los Angeles, federal raids sparked demonstrations and National Guard deployment.

Trump said, “ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”

Trump added, “We must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside.”

Trump’s immigration crackdown has hit industries like agriculture and hospitality, which depend on immigrant labor. Acknowledging workforce losses, Trump has directed ICE to pause operations in these sectors.
