According to a former adviser to ex-House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Donald Trump will end up paying the price for derailing a U.S. economy that was on the upswing when he took office.

Appearing on MSNBC with host Chris Jansing, GOP insider Brendan Buck hammered the president over his trade war and stated he will have to live with the consequences of the financial instability his tariffs have created.

With Jansing pointing to the new jobs report that shows unemployment stalled at 4.2 percent, she asked her guest, “I wonder if we’re going to see the president taking credit for this in the economy, right after claiming it’s actually Joe Biden’s economy?”

“Yeah, well, the White House already put out a paper declaring a jobs boom today,” the amused Buck replied before quipping, “So yeah, of course. When the GDP numbers go down it’s Joe Biden’s economy. When jobs numbers look good, it’s Trump’s economy.”

Turning serious, he continued, “Look, I think this shows two things. One, as we discussed, Donald Trump inherited an economy that was ready to take off; he didn’t have to do a whole lot to have a really solid economic legacy. But he’s completely botched it through this trade policy.”

Libya serves as a hub for migrants trying to get to Europe, and the country has several detention facilities for refugees and migrants

The Trump administration has developed plans to send migrants to detention centers in Libya on a military flight, according to Reuters.

The flight could depart as soon as Wednesday, officials told The New York Times. The nationalities of those set to be on the flight were not immediately apparent.

Libya is in the middle of severe conflict, and human rights groups have called its migrant detention centers “horrific” and “deplorable.”

The State Department advises the American public against going to Libya “due to crime, terrorism, unexploded land mines, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed conflict.”

But it’s an ok place to dump unwanted immigrants?

On April 22, according to Talking Points Memo (TPM) reporter Josh Kovensky, the America First Legal Foundation filed a “little-known lawsuit” against U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and the head of the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts — accusing the federal courts of undermining his presidential powers.

“The case ostensibly proceeds as a FOIA lawsuit, with the Trump-aligned group seeking access to judiciary records,” Kovensky explains. “But, in doing so, it asks the courts to cede massive power to the White House: the bodies that make court policy and manage the judiciary’s day-to-day operations should be considered independent agencies of the executive branch, the suit argues, giving the president, under the conservative legal movement’s theories, the power to appoint and dismiss people in key roles.”

A former senior cybersecurity official who refuted President Donald Trump’s lies that the 2020 election was “rigged” is under federal investigation, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.

Chris Krebs is facing an unspecified government investigation, the DHS spokesperson said. As a result, Krebs was expelled from a U.S. customs program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved American travelers at airports, known as Global Entry.

A federal judge on Friday permanently blocked a White House executive order targeting an elite law firm, dealing a setback to President Donald Trump’s campaign of retribution against the legal profession.

U.S. District Beryl Howell said the executive order against the firm of Perkins Coie amounted to “unconstitutional retaliation” as she ordered that it be nullified and that the Trump administration halt any enforcement of it.

The ruling was most definitive rejection to date of Trump’s spate of similarly worded executive orders against some of the country’s most elite law firms, part of a broader effort by the president to reshape American civil society by targeting perceived adversaries in hopes of extracting concessions from them and bending them to his will.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney slapped down Donald Trump in a meeting at the White House, indicating Canada is “not for sale”. President Trump and Prime Minister Carney met for the first time in person in the Oval Office today (Tuesday) after the US leader had previously said he would like to make Canada the “51st state”.

However, as the pair sat down in chairs in front of the assembled media, Mr Carney said “some places are never for sale”, adding that: “It won’t be for sale ever”. Before the meeting Mr Trump had taken to the unusual step of posting on social media, raging that the US didn’t need “anything” from Canada in the context of Canadian imports of lumber, cars and electricity.

Mr Trump said, “It takes two to tango,” when asked about Canada becoming part of the United States, but that “we’re not going to be discussing that unless someone wants to discuss it”.

But then the buffoon rambles on:

President Trump then listed benefits he believed Canadians would receive by ceding their sovereignty, but Mr Carney held firm on the matter.

The Canadian Prime Minister, and former Governor of the Bank of England, replied: “As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale, we’re sitting in one now…it’s not for sale. It won’t be for sale.”

However, even as the conversation moved on, Mr Trump couldn’t resist quipping: “Never say never.”

MSNBC: Trump’s treasury secretary accidentally summed up the bitter truth about his tariffs

Amid his verbal squirming in Tuesday’s news conference, Bessent offered a perhaps unintended revelation. “President Trump is interested in the jobs of the future, not the jobs of the past,” the secretary said. “We don’t need to necessarily have a booming textile industry like where I grew up again, but we do want to have precision manufacturing and bring that back.”

But textiles and other low-cost goods that rely on cheap foreign labor are subject to Trump’s tariffs, which means higher prices for consumers even if Americans won’t ever make those products again. And while precision manufacturing is great, it tends to be much more automated, which requires a smaller number of highly skilled employees. That means Americans won’t be working in that kind of factory by the tens of millions. 

In other words, Bessent accidentally summed up the effects of Trump’s tariffs: we’ll pay higher prices, but get little in return. Even before we feel the worst of it, Americans already understand. They aren’t happy and, if a recession comes, Trump will really feel their wrath.
