Bradenton Herald: ICE Sparks Outrage: MSNBC’s Maddow Responds to Arrests

Since January, ICE has taken nearly 150,000 people into custody, with about 100,000 having pending charges or prior convictions. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 83% of likely voters consider deporting criminal illegal immigrants important. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has criticized ICE operations, comparing them to an unaccountable police force.

Maddow’s program showed footage of ICE arrests while she criticized the agency’s aggressive enforcement methods. She stated that “the thing we were all warning about for the last few years … is here.”

Maddow said, “We have a consolidating dictatorship in our country. And it sounds melodramatic to say it, I know, but just go with that for a minute, right?” She added, “Think in melodramatic terms. Think in cinematic terms. Imagine the cartoon-level caricature of what you think a dictatorship looks like.”

Maddow concluded by noting that ICE has been “breaking people’s car windows and snatching people off the streets and at church parking lots and courtroom hallways and taking them away with no charges.”

Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza rejected claims of dictatorship and has supported tougher enforcement. D’Souza wrote, “If this is dictatorship, let’s have more of it. Of course it’s not.”

Critics have questioned ICE tactics and respect of civil liberties. Maddow said, “I mean, it’s secret police, right? A massive, anonymous, unbadged, literally masked, totally unaccountable internal police force that apparently has infinite funding but no identifiable leadership.”

D’Souza added, “Rather, the Left is furious, and alarmed, that its thugs are no longer in charge.”

The only thugs I’ve see are King Donalds goons & bully boys!

Brandenton Herald: ‘Villainized’: ICE Officers Respond to Rise in Threats

Would somebody please call a Whambulance?

An 830% increase of a very small number is still a fairly small number, especially when these purported incidents are distributed among ICE’s 10,000+ abusive bully boys.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have reported a staggering 830% increase in violence amid the implementation of mass deportation policies under President Donald Trump. Some have spoken up regarding their experiences of violence in hopes of humanizing their work and countering hostility. ICE Officer Kristian Moreno noted that officers have been targeted for simply enforcing the law.

Speaking with Fox News host Lara Trump, Moreno said, “It has been very sad to see how we’re villainized, the names used towards us.” She added, “We got a job to do. We’re just enforcing the law. We’re not making up the law, and it’s sad, but we just keep pushing through it.”

ICE Officer Chris Sandoval noted the risks agents face, such as being photographed and doxxed. He stated that misinformation and negative views have hindered their efforts to protect vulnerable communities.

Sandoval stated, “It’s kind of unfair to where… we’re doing our job, we’re serving the country, but sometimes I see people writing and stuff, and you’re hurting your own community.”

ICE Officer Edgardo Centeno expressed concern about rising hostility toward ICE agents. He noted that working conditions in Los Angeles and New York have become troubling and condemned political rhetoric inciting violence against agents.

Centeno said, “I believe in the First Amendment, and you can express yourself all you want, but when you are enforcing, as a Congress member…[people] to go after us, then you’re crossing that line.”

Centeno added, “We should not be afraid of doing our jobs. I raised my hand to defend the Constitution, and I’ll die for it. That’s who I am, and I know my partners are the same here.”

Bradenton Herald: Supreme Court Ruling Backfires on Trump Admin

“… we reiterate our concerns that the Trump administration has not shared the details of a plan to redistribute the Department’s work in a way that does not cause significant disruption for America’s college students.”

The Department of Education is reportedly experiencing operational challenges due to staffing cuts and new regulatory requirements, now challenged with meeting demands with fewer resources.

Staffing cuts of over 50% have most notably impacted Federal Student Aid and Civil Rights divisions. The Supreme Court has allowed the staff reductions amid ongoing legal proceedings.

Department leaders claimed they’re prepared to enforce new rules, but educators doubt their capacity. Shutting down the department requires Congress, though both parties have resisted the move.

President Donald Trump has supported reducing the federal role in education, though the department still offers aid and enforces standards. The One Big, Beautiful Bill Act has changed student loan repayment programs, expanded Pell Grant eligibility, and tightened college accountability.

Deputy Press Secretary at the Department of Education Ellen Keast said, “Just within President Trump’s first six months, the Department has responsibly managed and streamlined key federal student aid features.”

Keast added, “We will continue to deliver meaningful and on time results while implementing President Trump’s OBBB (‘One Big Beautiful Bill’) to better serve students, families, and administrators.”

A new law limits new borrowers to two repayment options and sets a 2028 deadline to shift specific income-driven plans. American Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Beth Akers said, “I do have significant concerns that the speed of the cuts will have left us with a department that is unable to effectively implement this legislation.”

Melanie Storey, President of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, said, “With significantly more work on the horizon to implement the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, we reiterate our concerns that the Trump administration has not shared the details of a plan to redistribute the Department’s work in a way that does not cause significant disruption for America’s college students.”

Pell Grants now cover short skill-based courses with departmental approval. A “do no harm” rule links federal aid to positive student outcomes, requiring collaboration with schools and agencies.

Bradenton Herald: Trump Suffers Legal Blow — Judge Sides with Blue State

District Judge Lindsay Jenkins has dismissed a lawsuit from the Trump administration regarding sanctuary policies in Illinois and Chicago, affirming that local governments have retained the right to refuse cooperation with federal immigration enforcement under the Tenth Amendment. The ruling marks a major setback for the administration’s efforts to challenge state and city-level protections for undocumented immigrants. It upholds laws such as Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance, reinforcing local authority in guiding immigration-related policies.

The Trump administration had sued sanctuary cities in California and New York. The Department of Justice (DOJ) targeted laws such as Illinois’ Way Forward Act and Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance.

The court rejected DOJ claims that state laws violated federal authority and dismissed Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker from the case. Meanwhile, some local governments like Louisville have expressed a willingness to work with federal agencies.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Pritzker praised the ruling, claiming it upholds local laws that protect public safety and resist harmful immigration policies.

Pritzker wrote, “Illinois just beat the Trump Administration in federal court.”

Johnson stated, “This ruling affirms what we have long known: that Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance is lawful and supports public safety. The City cannot be compelled to cooperate with the Trump Administration’s reckless and inhumane immigration agenda.”

Bradenton Herald: Defiant Mayor Signs Executive Order in Blow to ICE

Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mayor Tim Keller has signed an executive order mandating city departments to report any Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in city facilities. He reaffirmed Albuquerque’s commitment to civil rights and ensured that city resources will not be used for federal immigration enforcement unless required by law. The action comes in response to the ongoing federal enforcement of immigration measures under President Donald Trump.

Keller said, “From day one, I made it clear that we will not be intimidated by harmful federal policies—and we’ve never wavered from our commitment to civil rights and public safety.” He added, “This Executive Order makes it clear that we will not stand by silently as our neighbors and friends are living in fear, and we will protect due process for all people living in our City.”

The order directs city departments to support families impacted by federal actions in housing, healthcare, jobs, and education. Keller stated that immigrants have added $12 billion annually to New Mexico’s economy.

Keller argued the city must serve all residents, regardless of immigration status. City councilors have planned to draft legislation to codify the executive order following recess.

A spokesperson for Keller stated, “The City actively partners with community organizations to ensure that services, including housing, healthcare, employment, and education assistance are accessible to those impacted by federal immigration actions. These services are provided to all residents and neighbors, regardless of immigration status. We do not inquire about immigration status when offering assistance.”

The spokesperson added, “Albuquerque is proud to welcome immigrants and values the rich diversity of our community. Our focus remains on fostering safety, inclusion, and support for everyone who calls our city home.”

A city spokesperson stated that Albuquerque has worked with community groups to ensure affected residents have equitable access regarding essential services.

Bradenton Herald: City Council Considers Revoking Permit in Blow to ICE

The Portland City Council is reportedly considering revoking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s permit for the South Waterfront facility due to concerns regarding unlawful detentions exceeding 12 hours. Community unrest has risen amid reports of intimidation and policy violations linked to ICE operations. The council has responded by reviewing legal options in light of resident pressure for more humane immigration enforcement.

At the latest hearing, residents reported intimidation and attacks linked to ICE agents, claiming they have violated Portland’s sanctuary policy. Critics argued that ICE has disrupted housing and schools.

Protests outside the facility escalated, with federal agents using tear gas and rubber bullets. Rising vandalism has further strained tensions between residents and authorities.

City Council Member Angelita Morillo claimed that tolerating ICE’s actions could set a dangerous precedent. Morillo said, “If we allow ICE to continue to operate when they have violated their permits, that means that anything becomes permissible moving forward.”

Bradenton Herald: Eighty Million Medicaid Enrollees: ICE Gains Data

A federal agreement has allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) access to the personal data of nearly 80 million Medicaid enrollees, raising legal concerns. The access involves identity and location information, which critics fear will potentially impact individuals seeking medical care. The move has sparked criticism over its risk of deterring vulnerable populations from obtaining essential services.

ICE spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said, “ICE will use the CMS data to allow ICE to receive identity and location information on aliens identified by ICE.”

A Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) official said, “They are trying to turn us into immigration agents.” The official did not have permission to speak to the media and insisted on anonymity.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced legal action to block the data sharing. Eighteen states have sued President Donald Trump over the policy, which allows ICE access to data such as names, birth dates, and Social Security numbers.

Bonta said, “It is devastating to think that individuals may not seek essential medical care because they are afraid that if they do so, they may be targeted by this administration.”

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said, “The massive transfer of the personal data of millions of Medicaid recipients should alarm every American. This massive violation of our privacy laws must be halted immediately.”

ICE currently has limited access to the database during specific hours and cannot download the information. Emergency Medicaid remains available for lifesaving care regardless of immigration status.

And that’s the big problem — seeking emergency medical assistance will get your name and address in the database for ICE to harvest.

Bradenton Herald: Trump’s Plan for Undocumented Farm Workers Sparks Fury

President Donald Trump’s proposal to allow agricultural and hospitality workers to remain in the U.S. through employer sponsorship has sparked backlash among MAGA supporters. Many within the movement, who have supported mass deportation as a cornerstone of Trump’s immigration policy, view the move as a betrayal of their hardline stance. The division has come amid ongoing tensions within the base over Trump’s leadership, including controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said, “President Trump is fulfilling his promise to the American people to carry out the largest mass deportation operation in history. There will be no amnesty. Only deportations of the violent, criminal illegal aliens that Joe Biden welcomed into the country.”

Which is bullshit — most of the people they are deporting have no criminal records.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed the Administration will continue mass deportations with a more strategic approach. Officials have denied plans for amnesty thus far.

Whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean, when King Donald has promised some kind of magical “employer sponsorship” program.
