Fort Worth Star-Telegram: ‘Rigged System’: GOP Senators Thwart Nominee After Defying Trump

President Donald Trump pulled his nomination of Ed Martin for U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. The White House was working to secure his nomination despite declining support from some Republican senators.

Instead, Trump plans for Martin to be an associate deputy attorney general and pardon attorney. Martin will likely recommend pardons for defendants involved in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. In this photo gallery, we review the defiance from Republican senators.

Martin’s nomination ran into significant hurdles, including his failure to disclose nearly 200 media appearances. He claimed under oath that he could not recall controversial statements, raising concerns among GOP senators.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said, “Last Friday, we received responses from Mr. Martin to our questions, and it raised even more questions. Mr. Martin made a number of false statements and contradictory statements that are easily disproven by the material he himself disclosed in his Senate Judiciary Questionnaire. And it wasn’t just to my questions—it was to Chairman Grassley’s questions as well.”

So Trump pulls a nomination for a douchebag crony to be U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., but still plans to give him a job as an associate deputy attorney general despite several red flags regarding his honesty and ethics.

Yup, sounds like what King Donald would do!

NJ.com: Report: Trump double-dealing is about to reach new heights — literally

Turns out, the most corrupt presidency in American history is about to soar to even greater double-dealing heights.

What do you give to a president who already has enriched himself and his family by an average of $1 billion per month since taking office?

What could a guy — the most powerful man on the planet, who is planning 20 branded real estate projects around the globe — possibly want?

ABC News reports that Donald Trump — who told American families they’d have to cut back on dolls and pencils while accepting financial hardship for the good of the nation and his tariff-fueled ego — is about to accept a gift-wrapped $400 million “flying palace.”

In what may be the most valuable gift ever extended to the United States from a foreign government, the Trump administration is preparing to accept a super luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from the royal family of Qatar— a gift that is to be available for use by President Donald Trump as the new Air Force One until shortly before he leaves office, at which time ownership of the plane will be transferred to the Trump presidential library foundation, sources familiar with the proposed arrangement told ABC News.

The gift is expected to be announced next week, when Trump visits Qatar on the first foreign trip of his second term, according to sources familiar with the plans.

Trump toured the plane, which is so opulently configured it is known as “a flying palace,” while it was parked at the West Palm Beach International Airport in February.

One of those 20 planned international real estate developments includes golf course and residential project in Qatar, according to Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington.

The Street: These two industries could face mass layoffs this year

Trucking:

Trucking has typically been known as a reliable career choice, although some struggle with the isolation and long hours.

But according to Apollo’s report, the disruptions tariffs will cause to trade, especially with China, will have a negative effect on those working in the trucking industry.

The report suggests that a sharp decline in container-ship voyages from China will significantly reduce freight volumes, meaning fewer trucks will be needed to transport goods.

Apollo estimates that imports accounts for 20% of U.S. trucking volume, which if reduced, would translate to less need for drivers. It also estimates that domestic freight activity will hit a major slowdown by mid-May, with major layoffs to follow in order for trucking companies to cope with the changes.

Add in that President Trump signed an executive order on April 28 that requires all truck drivers to be able to speak English, and even more jobs will be snuffed out.

Retail:

Another blue-collar sector that will suffer because of the tariff environment, according to Apollo, is retail.

Apollo’s data suggests that retail will also face problems due to the decline in container shipments, especially from China. This will lead to stores running out of stock and longer gaps until they are able to refill their shelves. Other items could disappear altogether if they’re too expensive to import.

In addition, Apollo predicts that declining consumer confidence in the economy and fear of spending on anything nonessential will mean a slowdown in retail shopping. After all, less sales means less money to pay staff.

Further, the tariff-driven slowdown could lead to stagflation — stagnant growth combined with high inflation — according to Apollo’s analysis.

Mediaite: DOJ Attorneys Brutally Mocked for Accidentally Filing Letter Admitting Weaknesses of Case in Public Docket

Electronic case filing has been a fixture in the legal profession in this country for over two decades, saving litigants the time and expense of having to mail or hand-deliver their court pleadings. One absolutely crucial step, of course, is to make sure that the document you are filing with the court is the correct one, because once filed, whatever document you uploaded into the system will usually be automatically posted in the online public court docket.

Unfortunately for the attorneys at the Department of Justice who are working on the litigation regarding the Department of Transportation’s efforts to shut down the New York City Central Business District Tolling Program (“CBDTP”), someone seems to have badly flubbed this step and failed to double-check that the right document was being filed.

In February, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul voicing President Donald Trump’s objections to the CBDTP, which imposes stiff tolls on drivers using highly trafficked Manhattan streets, with the funds going to upgrade public mass transit programs. The tolls began on January 5, charging most drivers $9 to take roads in Manhattan below 60th Street, where many popular tourist destinations like the Empire State Building and Times Square are located. New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority filed a legal challenge seeking to keep the CBDTP in place.

Wednesday evening, a new letter showed up as item number 65 in the MTA vs. Duffy court docket, titled “LETTER addressed to Judge Lewis J. Liman from Dominika Tarczynska dated April 23, 2025 re: Administrative Record & April 20, 2025 Secretary Duffy Letter.”

What was actually filed, however, was an 11-page letter from Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tarczynska, David Farber, and Christine S. Poscablo addressed to Erin Hendrixson, the senior trial attorney at DOT regarding the case.

In the letter, the DOJ attorneys spell out multiple fundamental weaknesses with the federal government’s case, stating that there was “considerable litigation risk in defending” Secretary Duffy’s actions against the CBDTP, it was “unlikely that Judge Liman or further courts of review will accept the [federal government’s] argument that the CBDTP was not a statutorily authorized ‘value pricing’ pilot under the Value Pricing Pilot Program,” and “neither” of the DOT’s main defenses were “likely to convince the Court.”

Court watchers quickly pounced Wednesday evening after realizing what the DOJ had filed, mocking both the document mixup and the admissions that the federal government’s case was fundamentally flawed.

Sounds as though the Department of Justice is outsourcing their legal work to Three Stooges Law Offices PA!
