Armed National Guard troops are accompanying immigration agents as they carry out mass deportation raids on the streets of Los Angeles.
The troops, who were mobilized by President Trump, are providing “operational security” to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after they faced attacks and threats from anti-ICE rioters, sources told The Post, which first broke the story.
It’s “in case s–t hits the fan,” said a federal law enforcement source.
… some are concerned that their presence could make the federal immigration agents an even bigger target, the first source said. “They’re showing up with Humvees and uniforms,” the source said.

Mirror: Thousands gather in SF for ‘epic battle’ against ICE amid Calif. raids
In true Bay Area fashion, Monday night’s protest had its own rhythm.
An estimated 9,000 protesters gathered for a rally and march that started at San Francisco’s 24th & Mission BART Plaza around 6 p.m. to protest the recent raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement across California. Tracks like YG’s “FDT” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” rang out on Mission Street, along with chants like “Move ICE, get out the way!” echoing through the crowd in a nod to Ludacris. Protesters rolled through on scooters and skates, some draped in keffiyehs, others wearing face masks and clothing scrawled with anti-fascist messages. Many were waving upside down American flags and cardboard posters bearing anti-ICE slogans, lambasting the agency’s actions as unlawful and illegal.
Galvanized by mounting unrest across California and large-scale demonstrations in Los Angeles — where, after three days of protest, President Donald Trump authorized the deployment of 700 Marines and over 4,000 National Guard troops, bypassing Gov. Gavin Newsom’s authority — Bay Area residents took to the streets in a show of solidarity, advocating for immigrants of all nationalities, ethnicities and creeds.

“And by epic battle, I mean a battle that is going to have consequences for many years, for a long time to come,” Baker said. “And you know that the Trump regime has a strategy to wear us down, to shock and awe, coming at us from so many different directions. That’s their idea, that we will give up and go home.“
“The people rising up is the only thing that’s going to stop them now,” he concluded.

President Donald Trump has defended his decision to send another 2,000 National Guard troops to confront immigration protesters in Los Angeles, as the demonstrations spread to other US cities.
The protests began Friday in downtown LA after federal immigration authorities arrested more than 40 people across the city. Trump on Monday authorized the deployment of 700 Marines and additional National Guard troops to LA as the protests entered a fourth day. It came after an initial 300 troops arrived in the city on Sunday.
The demonstrations spread to other cities including Boston, Houston and Philadelphia on Monday. In Dallas, hundreds of protesters gathered for a rally which police declared was “unlawful.” Authorities said one person was arrested.

The protests that have roiled Los Angeles seem to be spreading across the country, as activists gathered Tuesday in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and elsewhere.
Rallies protesting ICE raids and the government’s immigration policies have been planned across California and beyond this week. A series of so-called No Kings demonstrations is planned nationwide for Saturday.

Hegseth asserts Trump can send troops anywhere to protect ICE agents conducting raids
Pentagon budget official estimated LA troop deployment to cost $134 million.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers Tuesday that he and President Donald Trump have the power to send National Guard and active-duty troops anywhere in the country to ensure Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents can enforce the law, an assertion that — if carried out — would open the door to a historic clash between Trump and Democratic governors.
“We believe that ICE, which is a federal law enforcement agency, has the right to safely conduct operations in any state, in any jurisdiction in the country,” Hegseth told the House Appropriations Defense subcommittee.
“ICE ought be able to do its job, whether it’s Minneapolis or Los Angeles,” he added.

President Donald Trump also opened the door for possible military deployments elsewhere, telling reporters on Tuesday that if protests break out in other states “they will be met with equal or greater force.”
Civil War II is really here. 🙁
California Governor Plans To File Lawsuit Against Trump Over National Guard Deployment To Protests
Gavin Newsom said he planned to file a lawsuit against Trump in response to the administration’s extraordinary deployment of the National Guard to confront immigration protesters who took to the streets in Los Angeles.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he planned to file a lawsuit Monday against President Donald Trump in response to the administration’s extraordinary deployment of the National Guard to confront immigration protesters who took to the streets in Los Angeles.
“Commandeering a state’s National Guard without consulting the Governor of that state is illegal and immoral,” Newsom, a Democrat, told MSNBC on Sunday.
…
Newsom, meanwhile, has repeatedly said that California authorities had the situation under control. He mocked Trump for posting a congratulatory message to the Guard on social media before troops had even arrived in Los Angeles, and he told MSNBC that Trump never floated deploying the Guard during a Friday phone call. He called Trump a “stone cold liar.”

Daily Beast: Pam [Bimbo #3] Bondi Likens L.A. to ‘Third World Country’ Amid Protests
Attorney General Pam [Bimbo #3] Bondi said Los Angeles “looks like a Third World country” amid protests in the city over Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
[Bimbo #3] Bondi appeared on Fox News Monday to discuss the federal response, which state officials said had dramatically escalated tensions in the city. Trump has deployed 4,000 National Guard troops to L.A. over the objections of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who said that in doing so, Trump has created the very conditions he claimed to be solving. Trump ignored pleas to dial down his rhetoric and has instead blasted what he calls a “migrant invasion” and “insurrectionist” protesters.
[Bimbo #3] Bondi faithfully echoed Trump’s hardline messaging on Hannity.
“What we’re going to do is we are going to enforce the law, regardless of what they do,” she said. “Look at it out there, it looks like a Third World country, and it’s not. It’s the United States of America. We are not standing for it.”
If Bimbo #3 were smart (little chance of that) she’d show some leadership and quit being such a suck-up to a king who is soon to be dethroned.
Daily Beast: ICE Barbie Kristi [Bimbo #2] Noem Issues Chilling Warning to L.A. Protesters
Kristi [Bimbo #2] Noem issued an ominous warning to protesters in Los Angeles on Monday as tensions over immigration raids rolled into their fourth day.
The Homeland Security Secretary praised Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as they faced off against protesters challenging the Trump administration’s sweeping deportation agenda.
“We’re coming in and doing what the president has said that he’s going to do,” she told Fox News’ Hannity. “The more that people conduct violence against law enforcement officers, boy, we’re going to hit ‘em back, and we’re going to hit ‘em back harder than we ever have before.”
Three words: “Fuck you, bitch!”
She’s a clueless fool who has no idea of the backlash that will follow.

Bloomberg: Unrestrained Trump Turns to Military in Second-Term Power Play
President Donald Trump’s moves to deploy US troops to Los Angeles and hold a splashy parade on the Army’s 250th birthday fulfills his longtime goal of leaning on the military for a show of force and political power.
Stymied in his first term by cabinet members who resisted the use of soldiers on American soil, Trump has a more compliant team around him this time. After sending in the National Guard this weekend, he escalated his showdown with California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday by mobilizing 700 active-duty Marines, a decision that Newsom called a “provocation.”
Late Monday, Trump went even further, authorizing an additional 2,000 National Guard members to deploy there, bringing the total to 4,000, not including the Marines.
…
David Leopold, a former president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said the presence of the National Guard and Marines was a “shocking” development meant to deliberately spread chaos, confusion and fear. “What we’ve seen is people exercising their First Amendment rights,” Leopold told Bloomberg Television. “That is what these troops are being sent out to suppress.”

Politico: Gavin Newsom: Trump is ‘unhinged,’ speaking like an ‘authoritarian’
The California governor blasted Trump amid the president’s deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Donald Trump’s threats against him and other Democrats following the president’s unilateral deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area carried all the markings of authoritarianism.
“It’s just an extraordinary moment, and I don’t want to overstate it, but these are the words of an authoritarian,” Newsom said in a Monday interview with POLITICO. “Whether he acts on it or not, the chill that creates is real, and it’s a serious moment, very serious.”
Trump and his border czar have targeted Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass by name with threats of arrests — and other ominous unspecified acts to be carried out by the federal government if the two don’t fall in line. Newsom spoke after a weekend of unrest — property destruction and bursts of violence — following immigration raids in the region.
California on Monday sued the Trump administration for authorizing the deployment against their will. The president and aides portrayed the move as just the start of potentially escalated action, including sending hundreds of U.S. Marines from nearby Camp Pendleton.
Newsom, Bass and other Democratic leaders believe Trump’s moves were designed to provoke protesters to produce footage showing a major American city in chaos — as well as an attempt to distract from the uneven economy hastened by his trade standoffs and his messy breakup with Elon Musk.
“He is unhinged, and he’s acting recklessly, and the threat of the Marines coming in the United States, this is a very serious and sober moment. We are going to stand firm,” Newsom said.
